1-4: The Knight's Raid of Carne Village
Me and Esy opened to doors to the Golden Throne Room simultaniously. We hadn't really spoken to anyone else except to return pleasantries with the NPCs and other guild members. Most of the undead seemed to be fine, but everyone else was in a daze. I was not really surprised to see Winup and Gold already here. I was surprised to see that Emperator had called my personal guard here. They seemed chipper enough, and seemed to gain energy when I entered the room.
"Lord Silver!" One of the girls said.
"I wish I could compare to a man like him." One of the men said.
"One day, maybe you will." His buddy said, patting the male speaker's back.
"You requested me Emperator, what did you need?" I asked.
"There is a village nearby that is being massacred. Knowing you two, I thought you would like to destroy some bullies and save the innocent. Make sure the town sees you in a good light. I would like to have good relations with our neighbors." Emperator said.
My slight frown became a predatory smile. I also knew that he wanted me to test my power in this world.
"Right, and everyone in this room, except you of course, is coming with me?" I asked.
"Yes. We can't be too careful, at least not yet." Emperator replied.
"Of course." I said, bowing ever so slightly.
In the lore of our guild and guild hall I am only a single rung lower on the hierarchy ladder than Emperator. I still showed him the proper respect that one shows their superiors, but I didn't make as much of a deal out of it as other people would. Esy is on the same level as me since she's my wife.
"Go, time is of the essence." Emperator said.
I bowed slightly again, then motioned everyone else to follow me, equipping my armor and swords while walking out of the room. Winup and Gold already had their equipment on, Esy was doing the same as I was. The guard was on duty as of now, so their stuff auto equipped. When I arrived at the Fortress's stables I called the NPC's name that worked here. He appeared with me and my companion's horses in toe. We mounted our horses quickly, and then set off in the direction of the village. We got there really quickly, after all our mounts were the best mounts possible in Grissaia, the skeletal horse. They don't get tired, and they are the fastest and strongest horses in existence. Their only weakness was low health, but we used them for travel, not combat, and that more than makes up for the lack of health. We came across two girls, both of them relatively young, but the older one reminded me of my oldest, the younger one reminded me of my youngest girl. I felt a pang of melancholy, and I could somehow feel that Esy felt the same pang. I looked at her, and we both made an instant decision. Two knights had tracked the girls down, and they started cutting the older one with their swords. I appeared right behind the one doing the attacking and my blades swung so quickly all you could hear was a whistle of air. His torso slowly slid off of his legs and then the second knight started calling me a monster.
"Oh really? Who's the real monster here? The men massacring an entire village, filled with peaceful folk, or the group that is defending it from them?" I growled.
Man this guy was a hypocrite. I hate hypocrites more than anything. In fact, ripping this guy's face off sounds real good about now, but no. Not in front of the children. I disappeared, then reappeared in front of the knight, then I swung my sword, killing him instantly by decapitation. I turned to the girls, the older one was still in a protective stance over her younger sister.
"It's okay now." I said softly, as I would often speak towards my children when they were scared.
"You, you aren't going to hurt us?" The older one asked.
"Yes, Esmerelda, dear come here, they need a healer, and probably a maternal figure." I called to her.
"Where are you going, Lord Silver?" Cupric, one of my guard, asked.
"To finish this." I growled.
"Take me with you sir!" Cadnum requested.
"Fine, Cupric, you too." I said.
"Yes sir!" They both said.
We sprinted to the village, then when we got there we started to kill all of the knights. The captain actually tried to stand up to us, but he was killed instantly by Cadnum. I told all of the remaining knights to leave, or die. They all left, very quickly.
"Thank you, kind knight. May I ask your name?" An elder man, probably the village elder, asked.
"My name is Silver Harbinger. Are any of you hurt?" I replied, then asked.
"Nothing serious." The elder replied.
The villagers were looking at me with suspicious eyes. I guess being nice isn't normal in this world.
"Well, in return for some information, I will have my healers treat your people." I said.
"Thank you very much, Lord Silver." The elder replied.
When Esy and the others for here, Esy was carrying the two girls in her arms, both of them asleep. Her eyes were content, her posture relaxed. Everyone in the village was healed and I got the information I wanted. After asking the village elder if it was fine, I invited Emperator to converse with him. He jumped at the opportunity to gain more information. The talks went well into the evening. Then more knights arrived. Albedo had demanded sentries be placed, even if they weren't to attack anything, so I got word long before the knights were in range. I was with Emperator, who had given the villagers the name Golden Emperor, and the village elder waiting for them. The elder clearly knew who the lead knight was, as the man basically grovelled before him.
"Greetings, may I ask to speak to the elder of this village." He asked politely.
"The man grovelling is the village elder, knight. My name is Silver Harbinger, the man who sits upon the Silver Throne of The Twelve Thrones. The man to my left is the Golden Emperor, the man who sits upon the Golden Throne of the Twelve Thrones. What is your name?" I asked.
"I am Gazef Stronof, the Royal Head Warrior of the Reestize Kingdom." He replied.
"Let us speak inside." Emperator said.
"Of course." Gazef replied.
The talks with Gazef went on for quite a while, and when he heard that I had saved this village he thanked me in an, admittedly over the top way. I said it was nothing. The village elder then asked me something that had bothered him.
"Lord Silver, why did you ask if the two girls you saved were orphans?" He asked.
"Because, just recently, my wife and I were separated from our biological children permanently. We wish to raise children, we loved our children with all our hearts, and now that we have been separated from them there is a void in our hearts. We hoped that Enri and her younger sister would like to have parents once again. We hoped to be their parents." I said, a little sadly.
"Oh, I'll ask them if they would like to be your children." The elder said.
"No, not yet. Let them mourn for their lost parents first." I said.
"Yes, of course." The elder said.
"Lord Golden Emperor, Lord Silver. There are mages arrayed in a semi circle on the out skirts of the village, what should we do?" A sentry messaged us.
"Friends of yours?" I asked, eyebrows raised.
"Probably, if not friends of yours." Gazef replied.
"We have been in hiding for a very long time, I doubt there is anyone left who holds a grudge against the Forty One Phantom Emperors and the Twelve Thrones." Emperator said.
"Yes, of course." Gazef said.
"Now then, as agreed, Carne village belongs to the Fortress of The Twelve Emperors, and as such, until the mages outside decide to show hostility towards Carne, we will not act, as we hope to stay neutral. However, Gazef Stronof, take this as a token of good will." Emperator said, handing Gazef a small wooden carving, that I recognized as an item that is used to trade places with a holder that's item is linked to yours.
"Thank you Lord Emperor." Gazef said bowing.
He left, with all of his troops. We did at the outer edge of the buildings, watching them leave. Esy walked up to me, hugging me from behind. I turned around and returned the embrace. Turning back around, with Esy burying her head into my chest, I'm not wearing armor at the moment.
"So, when do you plan on switching places with him?" I asked.
"Right when his pulse drops to a dangerous amount." Emperator replied.
"That's what I thought you were going to say, when did you place the life monitoring spell on him?" I asked.
"Right when I had eye contact with him." Emperator said.
"Of course." I said.
We were viewing the battle from a mirror glass, but since we were so close, my hearing could pick out most of it.
"He has shown hostility towards us." I said, frowning a little.
"Why do you frown, old friend?" Emperator asked.
"It's just, I seem to be even easier to anger than I used to be. Remember when I used the character Rampage?" I asked.
"Yes, very well. You were known as the strongest fighter ever, purely because your rage scared anyone you fought into a frozen state." Emperator chuckled a little at that
"Yeah, well... multiply that fuse by one over one hundred, and that's my current fuse." I sighed.
"Hmm, that's strange. I guess we really did become our characters, however they were also affected my our prior personalities." Emp mused.
"Yeah, sure. I almost scarred the children, that I would like to raise, for life, Emp! How could an aspiring father do such a thing?" I grumbled.
"This is a very stressful time for all of us, especially the two of you." Emp started.
Esy laughed a little at that.
"Sorry, extremely stressful time for the two of you. You two had a nearly perfect life. Children who were growing up well, stable work that both of you enjoyed, good friends, a large family, a supportive family on both sides. You two had a nearly perfect life, now it's been torn away, in a three second period none the less. The undead lost their emotions, we have to deal with that as well, but we don't have to, because we can't truly process what emotions are anymore. We vaguely remember what it's like to be really emotional about something. That's how quickly we lost our emotions, like a switch in us was flipped. Even now, I can barely stand being surrounded by all of these humans, I see them as less than flies. You two, however, have likely had the largest, aside from the undead that is, emotional changes. What are werewolves known for?" Emp asked.
"Their quick temper." I answered immediately.
"What is the two of you's species?" He asked.
"Werewolf." We, Esy and I, answered in sync.
"Point made." Emp huffed.
"Oh, looks like Gazef is getting up again." I commented.
"Come, let's get to the shelter." Emp said.
We got there, then the entire party I had brought joined us.
"Prepare to teleport." Emp said.
I braced myself, and Esy held onto my hand. I squeezed it, then looked at her and smiled. She smiled back, then we teleported.
