(Alyssa's *POV*)
I was walking home from school with my best friend, Emma. She's really loud, but she's really nice. Unlike me.Don't get me wrong, I'm not a bitch. Only when I need to be.
Emma is a greaser, but I'm middle-class. So I can pass for both.
Anyway, we were walking down the street and she was rambling about makeup and clothes and whatever. She wants to be a cosmetologist one day. I think she has a shot.
"Ya know, if you pulled your hair up every now and then, you could pass for a Soc," she said.
I looked down at my long dark hair, and shook my head. I have dark heir, dark eyes, and darkish skin. I'm Latino.
There ain't a lot of us like that in Tulsa. Except for Johnny Cade. Except, he's white. Just really tan. But it's cute.
She nodded her head. "Please, let me do your hair or something, Al, you'd look great."
I shrugged. "Okay. Fine."
She grinned. "Now?"
I laughed. "Over the weekend, Em. I haven't even made it home yet."
She nodded, giggling, and continued her super long story.
Suddenly, there was laughter from behind us. Emma and I turned and saw 4 greaser boys standing behind us. One of them was movie star handsome, and the younger one looked like he would grow up and be exactly like him. Both were dreamy. The other older one had greasy black hair, that were in complicated swirls, framing his head. He had stuff on his face, oil or chocolate, I wasn't sure. The last one is the one I was telling you about. Johnny Cade. His olive skin looked even cuter up close. Even though they were about 6 feet away.
The handsome one was the one laughing louder than the rest.
"That's the girl?" The dirty one asked, grinning.
Johnny turned a bright shade of red, while the other 3 laughed.
Emma and I walked backwards to listen. The younger cute one grinned. "She's not bad."
The older one nodded. "She's a real looker, Johnnycake." He winked at Emma.
Emma smiled, blushing slightly as she walked me home. Great. Now my crush likes my best friend.
"Hey, Alyssa?" I heard my mom yell from downstairs.
I sighed and put my book down. "Yes, mother?"
"Come down here!"
I groaned and walked out of my room and down the steps. She was standing at the bottom of the stairs. Her hair was pulled into a sloppy bun, and her apron was covered in flour, yet she still managed to look pretty.
I grinned. "Making cookies?"
She nodded. "You bet."
"Want me to help?"
She shook her head. "No, I want you to get over there and answer the phone. Someone wants to talk to you."
I nodded and walked over to the phone, picking it up. "Hey, Em."
"Who?" The person on the other end sounded confused.
"Oh, sorry," I say, turning a bit red. "I thought it was someone else. Who am I speaking to?"
"Uh, Johnny, um, Cade," he said, mustering up all the courage he could.
I smiled. "Hi, Johnny, um, Cade. What's new?" It was weird he was calling. He must want something, because we don't know each other well enough to just chat on the phone.
I heard him sigh and say, very quickly, "Iwantedtoknowifyouwouldhangoutwithmesometimeifyouaintbusybecauseireallyreallylikeyou."
I laughed. "Whoa. Slow down there, buddy. What did you say? Slower this time."
He took a deep breath. "Will. You. Go. On. A. Date. With. Me?"
I grinned. "Sure."
Even over the phone I knew he was blushing. "Great. See ya at 6:30 tomorrow." And he hung up.
I smiled like a dufas as I went back up my steps. I guess they were talking about me after all.
It was 5:00 and I was freaking out. I had just got out of the shower, and I hadn't even chosen my outfit. I stood at my closet, wearing only a towel, my hair dripping down on my white carpet. I finally chose the cutest outfit and slipped it on.
I stood at the mirror, admiring myself. It looked fashionable, and it really complimented my skin tone. Next was my hair and makeup. I could do my own makeup, but my mom was amazing at hair, so I pulled her out of her busy schedule to help me. She didn't mind, she likes it when I go on dates. Mainly because I don't go on very many. Not because guys don't asks me; they do. I just have very high standards, and Johnny happens to reach those.
As I sat in the mirror and she did my hair, she told me the story of how her and dad met. I don't see him much anymore, but I still love that story. When she finished, my hair looked amazing.
I decided to go with an all natural makeup look, and I sighed. I, Alyssa Luna, was going on a date with a super hot guy. How lucky was I?
I walked down the stairs and saw my older brother, Josh, sitting on the couch with my younger sister, Olivia. I have 4 siblings. Two older, two younger. Olivia and her twin Ely are 5. Josh is 18, and Carrie is 21 and already moved out. I'm only 16.
Josh grinned when he saw me. "You look fancy. Gotta date?"
I smiled. "Yeah. With a boy named Johnny."
"Does mama know?" Olivia asked.
I nodded and sat on the couch. "He'll be here soon. When he does show up, you say one thing to him. Do you remember what?"
"We tell him about the time you peed your pants at McDonald's," Olivia said, giggling.
I picked her up and tickled her. "No!" I cried, laughing. "If you say that, I'll lock you the basement!"
Josh grinned. "Don't say it, Livy. Write it down and give it to him."
I kicked his leg, gently. "Shut up, Josh!"
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I jumped up and Josh yelled, "Mom, her boyfriend is here!"
I rolled my eyes, smiling softly. "He's not my boyfriend."
Ely and mom ran into the living room as I opened the door and saw Johnny standing on my steps, his hair looking more tame than it did yesterday, except it was still heavily greased.
"Hi, Johnny," I said, smiling.
He grinned. "Wow, uh, you look... Great! Well, actually you look great everyday, but you look even greater today, and-"
I laughed. "Thank you. Are you ready to go?"
"Can we meet him, Alyssa?" My brother yelled from the other room.
I grabbed Johnny's hand and gave him a pleading look. "Let's go."
Johnny grinned and nodded. We started running away from my house. We stopped when he was out of breath. He was still holding my hand.
"Where are we going?" I asked, gasping for breath.
He plopped down on the corner. "I'll tell you when I can breath again."
I laughed lightly and sat next to him. He caught his breath, within a minute. He stopped and smiled at me. "We're going to the movies... Only if you want to. If you don't-"
I stopped him. "I'd love to."
He nodded and hopped up. He held out his hand and led me to the movie house. He paid for the tickets and bought us each a Coke. We sat down in the corner of the theater where it was dark. There wasn't very many people there. A few little kids up front, and an old couple in front of us.
We started talked quietly as the previews played. Everyone knows Johnny as the quiet innocent one. But he was pretty chatty around me, and had quite a few jokes that weren't as innocent as everyone might think.
As the movie started up, he swung his arm gently over my shoulders. I leaned into him slightly. It was a comedy movie, with one of my favorite actors. I kept laughing at the good parts, and he would just look at me, grinning. There was one part where the protagonist kisses his love interest. It was pretty heated and passionate. I guess it was a rom-com.
I felt a bit awkward to be watching it with him. I was praying that one of those scenes didn't happen. But then Johnny glanced at me and I turned to look at him.
The next thing I knew, I had leaned over to kiss him, and he was kissing right back. I shifted my body to face him better, but my side rammed into the armrest between us. I gasped lightly.
He sighed and muttered, "Screw it." He pulled me (a bit forcefully) over to him and on his lap. I grabbed his face a began kissing him, his hands wrapped around my back.
At that moment, I didn't care if the kids or the old people turned to watch us. Now I was praying that the movie never ended.
