Chapter 3
Darry's POV
It's around 9:00 and Soda still isn't back yet. Steve and Two-Bit left about an hour or so ago so I'm left here by myself. I pray that Soda hasn't gotten himself into any trouble but ya never know. I told Ponyboy to be back before eleven but now I wish that they would both be home sooner just so I know that they are ok. I know that Soda can probably handle himself out there but I can't help but worry. I'm sure that they are both fine but that doesn't stop my concerns.
A little bit later, the front door opens and Ponyboy walks inside. He walks straight to his bedroom and closes the door behind him without saying a word. Soda follows in shortly after and then sits down on the couch rubbing his eyes. He didn't have anything from the store with him so I wanted to figure out what he was doing while he was gone.
" What took you so long?" I ask curiously. He sits up straight and then sighs.
" I wanted to find Ponyboy because I knew that something was up with him and I think it has something to do with what he dreamt of last night," he says quietly so that Pony doesn't hear him. " I was heading to the theater to see if I could find him there but on my way there, I spotted him in the park by the fountain just... Standing there," Soda says. I lean back on the chair and pinch the bridge of my nose.
"This must be about Johnny," I reply back. Soda nods in agreement and we both just sit there. It's been about five months since Johnny died and since Johnny was Pony's best pal, I'm
not surprised that it hit him the hardest. He's more sensitive to things than the rest of the gang are and he's been broken ever since. We had already lost our parents and then we lost Johnny and then Dally.
I look up at Soda who looks miserable. If there is one thing that kills Soda, it's seeing Ponyboy upset. Soda was already a mess when Ponyboy went missing and we didn't know where he was. His eyes start to water and he lies down on the couch. I rub his back without saying a word because I already know why he's in this state. Soda doesn't say anything and eventually falls asleep with tears falling down his face. I grab a blanket and gently place it on top of him and then head down the hall. I open the door to Ponyboy's room and he's sound asleep. I head to my room and crawl into bed. I drift away with the thought that sooner or later, we were all going to crack.
