"You must be Connor" Darry said in a deeper voice than usual. He was trying to scare him. It seemed like it was almost working but to me it was just annoying.

"Yes sir. You must be Darrel. Nice to meet you" Connor replied as polite and calm as possible. He extended his hand and thankfully Darrel shook it without trying to break it off.

"Ponyboy and Two-Bit will be at the school a little later. You guys behave yourselves and no funny business ya hear?" He said giving a quick look to Connor.

"We'll be good Darry! Can we go now?" I cut it, anxious to leave before he completely scared Connor away.

Darry softened his look. "Yes. Have fun" he said.

Connor started before I walked out but before I left Soda got up and grabbed my arm. "If he tries to kiss ya, kick him in the balls" he said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and smiled, then left to his car.

"Be home before midnight!" Darry yelled from the door. I gave him a thumbs up to acknowledge him and then we sped off.

"Well your brother sure is..." Connor started, trying to find the right words.

"Scary?" I said.

"I was gonna say protective" he said with a smile. "It's nice that they care so much."

"Yeah. I'm real lucky" I replied.

"Thanks for coming with me by the way" He said after a few moments of silence. "I honestly didn't think you would say yes."

"Why not? You've always been nice to me. Plus I really wanted to go to the dance." I said.

"Yeah I guess I'm just worrying too much about things. I just want to have fun tonight with you" He smiled.

"Me too" I said and smiled back.

"You look beautiful Ellie." He said. I shyly smiled and hoped that my cheeks didn't look as red as they felt.

The rest of the car ride was filled with usual small talk. We laughed and talked about school and the teachers we hated. We finally got to the school and the gym was already filled with people. Some of the Soc girls saw me walking in with Connor and either gave me weird looks or intense glares. "Don't worry about them. They're just jealous because they don't look as pretty as you do." Connor said while grabbing my arm and leading me to the dance floor.

I stood there for a moment before he grabbed my hands and stared dancing with me. We were both awful but we didn't care.  I spotted Two-Bit and Ponyboy near the punch bowl. It was obvious that Two-Bit was trying to spike the bowl before Pony grabbed it from him. They soon saw me and began to walk towards me. I could tell that Two-Bit had been drinking by the way he swayed with each step he took. "Well well well, whadoo we have here?" he slurred. I tried to walk away from him but he just followed. "Hey wait a minute, where do ya think you're going missy?" 

"Two-Bit cool it ok? We're just dancing" I replied. Ponyboy, who had been standing quietly next to Two-Bit the whole time could tell that I was a little embarrassed and led Two-Bit away from us and into the crowd. I waved goodbye and mouthed a grateful "Thank you" and then turned back to Connor. 

"I'm sorry. He gets a little out of hand sometimes." At first I thought that he would be weirded out or something but he just smiled. 

"Its no big deal El. Can't blame a guy for wanted to indulge in the spirits." He laughed. I smiled and we kept dancing. He really seemed like more of a great guy the more I was with him. He didn't care about what neighborhood I was from or the clothes I wore. He really liked me from me. 

We kept dancing for a while. I saw Connor occasionally check his watch but other than that he seemed like he was having a good time. When he kept checking it I was getting worried that he was bored of me. I eventually asked why he kept checking the time. 

"Oh, I just want to make sure that I'm not late to bring you home. Trust me, I don't want to be anywhere else but here with you." He smiled. I nodded, distressing greatly. Things were going great. 

By now, it was about 10:30. Connor asked if I wanted to go outside by the bleachers with him. My  heart started racing. was he going to try to kiss me? Or ask me out? I put my racing thoughts aside. I said yes and quickly looked around the room to make sure that Two-Bit and Ponyboy didn't see us leave. 

We ended up sitting under a tree right next to the bleachers. For a moment neither of us said anything. Usually, a situation like that would feel awkward or uncomfortable. But I couldn't feel anymore content. 

"I hope you had a good time tonight" Connor eventually said to break the silence. 

"I definitely had a good time" I replied. 

He seemed to get a little nervous for a second and looked around before looking back at me. "I never knew you were so fun to hang out with. I mean, not that you ever seemed boring. I uh, I guess I'm trying to say that I'm happy you came." I smiled gently at him. He looked at me for a second, almost as if he looked upset. He then looked around again. 

"Is everything alright? You seem upset. Did I do something wrong?" 

"No, no of course not." He said, still looking out. I sat there for a second, not really knowing what to say. He eventually turned to me again and lifted my chin so that my eyes met his eyes. This was it. He was actually going to kiss me. I closed my eyes for a second. Nothing happened for a second and it was quiet. I opened my eyes again and there were tears in his eyes. 

"I'm sorry Ellie" he whispered. I looked at him confused, and he put some sort of cloth on my nose. The next second I felt really funny and tired and it became harder and harder to keep my eyes open. Before I finally faded into unconsciousness, I saw in the distance what appeared to be a red truck...

Hey y'all! So I think we can all agree that I am very bad at updating my stories. Life just kind of took over for a bit. But at least things are starting to pick up in the story!
