A Night To Rember

Saturday had finally rolled around. I woke up extra early and decided to watch some T.V. I had way to much energy  to sleep any longer. Usually the first person up makes breakfast but I decided that we can all just have cereal. I know I sound a little crazy for being this excited about some high school dance, but I've never been to one before. Let alone, one with a boy.

Not long after I sat down, I heard the door to Darry's room open and shuffling down the hall. When he walked into the living room, he seemed surprised to see me. "Hey kiddo," he said with a slight chuckle as he went into the kitchen to pour himself a cup of coffee. I followed.

"Good morning!" I said with a cheery voice. He turned and gave me a weird look but eventually gave me a smile.

"Well you're sure in a good mood today. I'm guessing it's because of that dance isn't it?" He asked with his mood slightly decreasing. He clearly was still not too happy about this.

"Darry," I started, my smile fading. "I know you're not super thrilled about this but I promise, everything will be fine. Can you promise me you'll at least pretend to be okay with this when Connor picks me up tonight? I don't want him to be freaked out or anything."

Darry look at me for a minute before sighing. "Alright El, I'll be nice." I smiled and gave him a hug.

"Thank you Darry," I said behind his head.

"Of course kiddo," he hugging me back. "Anything for you."

Just as we let go of each other, we heard talking from down the hall and turned our heads. Both Ponyboy and Sodapop came into view, Laughing and pushing each other around. They finally stopped when they saw us. "Mornin guys." Sodapop said as he and Ponyboy sat at the table. I smiled and brought over some bowls and a box or cereal with milk. They immediately dug in.

"Hey you forgot the spoons El," Ponyboy said with a slight laugh. "They're kind of important to have with this whole eating cereal process."

"I beg to differ." Soda said before taking his bowl and slurping it from the side. Pony just shrugged and did the same. Without any words they somehow decided that they were racing and both began to drink faster. Soda was the first to finish and through his bowl onto the table with a victorious smile.

"Nice milk mustache," I said to him while trying to suppress my laughter. Soda merely laughed and licked it off over dramatically which made me laugh even harder.

"You're both disgusting," I said while shaking my head. They both laughed and we all helped clean up the dishes.

The rest of the gang came over not long after breakfast. We mostly relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. Soda, Steve, Pony, and Johnny all played poker while Two-Bit and Dallas watched T.V. Darry just read the daily paper while occasionally glancing at the screen. I decided to watch the boys play poker because I'm real lousy at it. Soda has tried to teach me a thousand times but I can never get the hang of it.

Five-thirty soon rolled around and I decided to get ready for the dance. I curled my hair and even put a  little makeup on, which I rarely do unless it's mascara or something. It's not that I don't like to, I'm just lazy. I grabbed the dress along with my heels and put them on. When I was finally done I stepped in front of my mirror. "Don't scare him away, El." I said to myself. After my little pep talk I walked into the living room.

I tried my best to be as unnoticed as possible but as soon as I entered the room, the entire gang turned around. Dally whistled and chucked slightly, causing my cheeks to turn red. Holy cow, ya look like a girl El!" Two-Bit said.

"Oh shut up before I break your teeth." I said with a smile as I went to sit next to Ponyboy.

"Well, ya sure don't talk like a girl that's for sure." Steve said from the coffee table. He was still playing poker. Shocker.

"You look great, Ellie." Said Darry with a soft smile. "When's what's-his-face supposed to be here?"

"His name is Connor and he should be here any minute." I replied with an eye role.

"Oo la la Ellie's got herself a little boyfriend." Two-Bit said in a sing-song like voice.

"He's just a friend!" I said in defense, but Two wasn't buying it.

"A friend. Sure." He said with an evil smirk. I left it at that and just sat there and watched TV. About 15 minutes later I heard a knock on the door.

"That's him!" I said with a smile and sprung from the couch. Before I could reach the door, Darry went in front of me and opened the door. I groaned. Here we go.

Omg I.am.so.sorry. This took forever to come out. Im gonna try to update more frequently. I was gonna put the next part in this chapter but I think this is a good break point. The next chapter is wear things pick up a bit so stay tuned, and stay gold! ❤️
