{{Chapter 18}}
"Hold up." The blonde teen muttered, taking another look onto the scanning device to make sure. "Did... Spitfire set us up?"
Moments later their path was clear, the 2 teens continued to glare around their surroundings as they wait for Rainbow to make any denying.
But she stood silent yet so scared to even have direct contact with Applejack nor Rarity. And with this, the cowgirl diverted her attention onto the "infected" teen.
Rarity sighed and took hold of her knife. "Why in the world are we smuggling an infected girl?" She then pointed the tip of her weapon in Rainbow Dash's direction.
"Why didn't you tell us?"
The shocked teen backed away, still showing a nervous reaction. "I- I'm not infected, I swear!" She managed to stammer out.
Applejack chuckled sarcastically, throwing the device to Rainbow. "These soldiers have the most advanced technology ah know. You're lyin'."
Her girlfriend stood beside her. "You better explain, fast."
The poor Rainbow-haired teen glanced at the two, still unable to come up with any response. But when she realized she was holding onto the bloody cloth on her arm, something came up in her mind.
With this, she immediately removed the cloth, revealing a swollen bite mark on her hand. Applejack and Rarity gasped at the sight which made them get defensive around the survivor.
"I-I don't care how you got infected. But that's a definite bite mark." She gritted her teeth before stepping in front of her girlfriend.
"Oh come on, it's 3 weeks old!" Rainbow shouted back.
Rarity stepped aside. "No, everyone turns into those monsters within 2 days. So stop this bullsh*t and tell us the goddam truth!"
Rainbow Dash gritted her teeth, covering her wound again before standing up to face the two. And yet, the two backed away and prepared their weapons in case Dash attacks.
The cowgirl looked into her magenta eyes to identify if she's telling the truth. Even if the two had only met today, she knew she can identify if anyone's telling the truth just by looking at them.
In Rainbow Dash's case, it was clear. She was in denial, only to prove she was telling the truth to the couple. Sadly, Applejack didn't open up this topic as she continued to interrogate the poor teen.
"It's 3 weeks old, I f*cking swear."
The blonde teen finally lowered her weapon, turning around afterward to face an open pathway for their next destination.
"I ain't buying this crap. We're turning back and- " She paused as soon as she saw a vehicle driving towards them.
Her eyes widened as well with her instincts rushing in. "Oh, sh*t."
"Rarity, run!"
Her lover arched looked back at her. "Huh?" But when she followed Applajack's gaze, she saw the heavily armed vehicle getting closer.
"Run, go, go move!" She yelled out while grabbing the infected survivor to pull her into a cover.
With the blonde teen in the lead, she firstly looked for a place for cover. And there she saw a sewer pipe leading into the next District.
She jumped down to the whole, pulling the almost broken vent grate to open a small passageway inside.
"Go, go!!" She shouted, letting Rarity and Rainbow crawl inside first while she scouts the place.
After the place was clear, the cowgirl entered the passageway and closed the vent cover to avoid any suspicion from the Canterlot soldiers.
There, the vent led them into an exit beneath the bridge. Applejack was the first one to step out, looking around the place to make sure they can't be spotted.
"Alright, it's clear." She alarmed the others as she returned her pistol to her holster.
Rarity sighed in relief and stepped out of the vent. She then helped Rainbow crawl through before she closes the exit way.
Rainbow coughed and sat down, glaring at Applejack who was clearly avoiding any eye contact with her.
When Rarity saw this, she quickly took the chance to kneel in front of their so-called "Cargo" to interrogate her even further.
"What's Spitfire's plan?" She started, getting her lover's attention. "Let's say we completed the mission and we successfully delivered you to the Shadowbolts, what then?"
Applejack scoffed. "It's no use, Rare. She ain't gonna tell ya anything. We can't trust an infected."
"Shut it, Apples," Rainbow growled back before returning to Rarity. "Spitfire... She told me they have their own quarantine base in the west. There are still doctors over there to create a possible cure to end the pandemic."
"Heh, we heard that excuse before, right, Rarity?"
Rarity flicked a middle finger to her lover, making Applejack's eyes go wide. She just sighed and backed away from the two.
"Fine, I'll leave it to you then." She raised her arms and walked away, furthering scouting the area while figuring out a new plan.
Rainbow sighed and continued. "They said, whatever happens to me is the key to find a vaccine."
"Oh, Celestia's sake."
Rarity stood up and faced her girlfriend. "Could you maybe shut the f*ck up, Applejack?!"
The cowgirl ignored the fashionista with a fake yawn. She turned around and folded her arms to her chest.
"Look, it's what Spitfire told me, alright? And I'm sure she's telling the truth and-"
"Oh, of course, she did." She interrupted again.
Rainbow Dash stood up and walked up to Aj. "F*ck you dude, I didn't ask for this! If you didn't just accept the mission in the first place then we wouldn't be in this sh*t."
"Well, we needed our weapons back you dumb b*tch." She replied before stepping closer to the purple-haired teen. "Rarity, what are we still doing here?"
"What if it's real, Applejack?" The girl was quick to question.
Applejack's eyes widened. "W-what? Do you actually believe her? Bullsh*t." She walked away.
Rarity gritted her teeth and followed her, pulling her wrist to make her stop walking.
"What if, Applejack. What if?!"
Her lover sighed, pulling her hand back to check if her gun still has any ammo left. Rainbow Dash followed from behind, still hoping that Applejack would look back at her.
At this point, The cowgirl knew that Rarity was siding up with Rainbow Dash. As much she wanted to stay calm, she couldn't see herself agreeing nor believing what Rainbow Dash told them.
"Look, we've come this far. Let's just finish it."
The cowgirl grabbed the fashionista and pulled her closer, pointing a finger upwards to point at the broken towers seen in the distance.
"Do I have to remind you what kind of monsters are out there? We could get killed, Rarity!"
Rarity sighed. "I get it..." She lastly replied before pushing her girlfriend away from her.
Rarity then took the lead by walking towards an abandoned tunnel with crashed, broken vehicles covering its way.
"This way. If we cut through downtown. We can arrive back in the district by sunrise."
Rainbow Dash nodded and followed her lead. With Applejack left behind, she had no choice but to hide her weapon and follow the two into the dark tunnel.
She was still unsure what to think of Rainbow Dash. After finding out that she was infected, she didn't know if she could ever trust her again.
And yet she couldn't help herself but look at Rainbow from behind. The fact that they stayed in the same together bothered her.
"Even if she was infected or sabotaging, why didn't she kill me back at the apartment?" Aj wondered to herself.
But aside from Rainbow, Rarity was now a bigger problem for her. It was clear that their relationship was begging to break.
The blonde teen sighed, taking out a small box from her pocket. "Is it a mistake, Rarity, or am I just losing it?"
She stared at the diamond ring for several seconds, still trying to answer her own question. But when she heard Rainbow Dash yell out her name, she snapped out of her thoughts and placed the ring back in her pocket.
There she followed the two into the exit where they soon saw the destroyed city. The tall buildings were near to fall as others were seen crashed onto one another. It's a miracle that it hasn't collapsed yet.
"What happened here?" Rarity questioned while looking around the deserted place.
Rainbow dash wore her hoodie, hiding her long colorful hair. "I heard the army bombed this place to eliminate many Infected people as much as possible."
"I'm surprised president Celestia actually agreed to this, didn't she think that innocent civilians can be infected too?"
"Hey, I think it's for the best. I mean, The whole world is now infected which makes the humanity percentage 20%. Plus, 5% died for the battle of supplies. Bombing a small town will surely eliminate its infected."
Rarity giggled softy. "I guess you're right, darling. If we can just-"
Before Rarity could finish, a huge explosion was heard in the distance which shook the ground from its impact.
The 3 fell to their knees as they followed the smoke erupting. Applejack was the first one to respond by standing up and running to the lead.
"What the hell was that?!" She nervously asked, almost shouting.
Rarity followed. "I don't know. It sounded close."
"Then we have to move fast, now!"
