{{Chapter 13}}

The sight of dead people scattered among the streets made my eyes widened in pure shock. Blood was all over the place, guns were near their dead bodies, and the aroma of rotten flesh spread in the air.

Half of them were wearing the same jacket as the Shadowbolts while others had usual clothing. I'm guessing these two clans fought for supplies again.

But what more shocking is what the Rainbow haired teen told me. Did she wipe out an entire army of civilians just by looking through that sniper above us?

What these survivors did is none of Rainbow's business, but she still had the tendency to kill every one of them.

"Y-you what?" I gasped in slight anger.

The kid smirked and placed her revolver to her holster. "Your welcome." She added.

I then quickly went ahead of her, kneeling down near one of the dead survivors. "This man is a shadowbolt.. What did they ever do to you?"

"Nothing I guess. I just heard screaming and yelling outside our base so I decided to interpret. Those dumbasses were just fighting for the loot drop, they don't even matter."

"Do you realize that you killed members of your clan?! Not to mention poor civilians!"

Rainbow arched an eyebrow at me. "Excuse me? No, they're not my team. I'm not one of them."

"If your not a shadowbolt.." I started while standing up. "Then why are you with Spitfire? She's the leader of the clan, you know that right?"

"Its because she found me fighting with some idiotic gang members, dumbass," Rainbow answered. "Look, can we just get this over with? I know you wanna spend more time with me and all but-"

Before she could even finish her sentence, I cut her off purposely hitting her side, walking a few meters ahead of her.

"I'm surprised that you didn't die yet." I chuckled, sounding kinda angry.

"What the hell does that supposed to mean?" She growled back after crossing her arms to her chest.

I sighed and turned my back around her. "You kept messing with the deadliest mercenaries here in Appleloosa. You messed with me and Rarity, Sunset and a few civilians-"

"So? They don't matter anyway. This is survival of the fittest, cowgirl. The one person that matters is yourself."

"But killing innocent civilians in this district is unacceptable, kid! Why did you even kill them?"

"I wanted the loot for myself, simple right?"

"You monster," I replied in an angered tone.

Her look began to turn into an angered expression as she slowly walked up to me. "Says the person who killed Feather Bangs in cold blood.."

"That man fooled me and my girlfriend, he didn't matter!" I started before continuing walking towards the second route out of this town. "Just follow me kid, your safe under my protection. Let's just get this job done."

"Maybe it's the other way around, hot stuff." She laughed, finally following me afterward.

This kid is getting in my nerves, but I know she's right. This world is slowly falling apart, Humanity is decaying and its population lessens every day.

Its no surprised that I met Rainbow here in Appleloosa by coincidence. Appleloosa is the only survival fallout base for us survivors.

Ponyville has fallen down, the Everfree forest burnt and turned into ashes same with White tail woods, and Fillydelphia has been overtaken by the infected.

Almost all of the remaining ones of Humanity gathered around Appleloosa.. Maybe Rainbow was one of them before she was taken by Spitfire.

Aside from that, the weird feeling in my chest slowly got bigger every time I look at her. That rainbow hair of hers is the talk of this town, she's practically being hunted.

But she mentioned something back at Spitfire's base and I somehow can't get rid of it in mah mind.

"And your that cowgirl who sparked my soul."

What did she mean by that? Was she just fooling around? Al I know is I can never trust this girl. Heck, she might kill me when I least expected it.

Suddenly, I heard her voice calling me from behind, making me snap out of my deep thoughts.

"Hey, Applejack right?" She called while glancing around our deserted surroundings.

"What?"

"Where exactly are we going? I can go there by myself you know?"

I sighed. "We're taking another route out of here. And no, You're staying with me. Spitfire entrusted me to take care of you."

"Pfft- Whatever. You're the boss I guess."

We just kept walking, still in an awkward silence situation. With my mind still unable to think of anything to say, I just simply looked at her and gave her an angered look.

Of course, the teen just smiled back and flicked her middle finger at me.

-

After we made it to the tunnel's first passage, I quickly kicked the piece of wood covering a small ledge to lift myself up into the emergency staircase.

I then pull myself up and checked our surroundings from the top. "Quick, before anybody sees us." I continued after reaching out my hand for her.

"But I thought were going through some kind of tunnel?" She asked before grabbing my hand.

"This is the tunnel, idiot.," I answered while pulling her up.

When she finally made it up with me, I quickly held her hand and lead her upwards into the staircase.

Her cheeks suddenly reddened at my touch which made her quickly pull her hand away from mine.

"Woah, Woah! What was that, cowgirl?" She nervously asked.

"Relax I just need to protect you and make sure you don't run away from me," I said before grabbing her wrist. "Stay with me, kid."

"Okay, can you please stop calling me a kid! How many times do I have to say that I'm 17!?"

"And I'm 20, I'm 3 years older than you." I chuckled, vaulting up into a broken window leading inside the building afterward.

I don't mind holding her hand, I'm older than her and I just don't want her to run away when I have my backs turned.

But when I realized that her cheeks turned red as soon I held her hand, a confused feeling came up to my chest, still figuring out why.

As soon as we got into the building, something suddenly caught my attention.

"Rainbow Dash stay behind me.." I quickly warned while pulling out my pistol from my holster.

"W-what is it?" The Rainbow haired teen asked as she grabbed her pistol. "What did you see, Applejack?"

"Shhh.." I muttered, slowly walking into the empty well-lit hallways.

When I was about to take another step forwards, something loud fired behind me.

"B A N G!" A gunshot fired.

I immediately flinched at the sound as my instincts automatically made my body crouch down.

And there I saw another mutated beside me.. But it wasn't moving anymore. Blood was all over my hands and others scattered on the floor and wall.

Not long after, it suddenly fell to the ground which made me jump out of its way.

"Damn, you suck at protecting people, cowgirl. I should be the one protecting you." Rainbow chuckled, doing a gun trick before placing it back to her holster.

"Geez.. Maybe a little warning next time?" I growled back before walking up to her.

"You should really be careful, cowgirl. We don't want any bloodstains on that cute face of yours eh?" She giggled while wiping the mutated's blood in my face with her thumb.

I felt my cheeks redden at the moment as I continued staring into her magenta eyes. those eyes were the ones that sparked my soul in our first encounter.

I wonder why are they making me feel so confused.. yet so guilty. Why is she acting like this to me?

"I- I don't need your help," I muttered, pushing her away from me.

I just wiped the blood from my face with the back of my hand before walking towards our next destination.

In yet another awkward situation, I had to think of something to break this goddamn silence.

I smiled weakly. "T-thanks for that.. partner."

She smiled back and followed my lead. "Of course dumbass, I should be the one protecting you in this smuggling mission."

"Oh please, that was unexpected." I laughed after putting my gun away.

Rainbow Dash smirked. "I bet it is, for you of course but even a blind man could see that Mutated."

"It charged at me from a room, idiot! How else would I see em'? Of course, you saw it because you were at the back."

"That makes no sense whatsoever, Applejack."

I rolled my eyes. "Oh whatever, idiot."

We then continued to make our way towards the end of this hallway. The view from above really fades my smile every-time I glance at it.

Up here, you can see how destroyed our town is. Fire and black smoke spread in the air, buildings were now covered in moss and most of them were destroyed, soldiers began roaming around the street, and people were seen getting shot at.

"Damn.. What happened to us?" I asked, feeling down.

Rainbow's smile slowly faded when she saw me looking out in the window. She just sighed and placed her hand on my shoulder.

"This is war, and were its soldiers. Our world may be broken but we remained few can still survive and build this place back up again."

"Hearing that from you, you sounded like you wanna kill someone." I laughed as a weak smile finally formed in my face again.

"O shut up you. Why would you ever think that? We just met like.. 10 minutes ago."

The rainbow-haired teen smiled. "I don't know, maybe because you killed, assaulted, stole from civilians back at the 2nd district?"

"Oh come on, I only stole that candy bar from that kid.." She started, placing both her hands to her jacket's pocket. "And.. maybe a sniper rifle from a red and yellow-haired girl.."

"Oh Celestia, your so dead."

She looked into my eyes in an amusing way. "I know, but with you on my side, I can finally use you as a human shield when that sunset freak finds me."

"Oh haha, dumbass." I sarcastically laughed.

After we took a right in the hallways, I noticed that there was another corpse on the ground. Its blood looks fresh, it seems like he was attacked this day.

"Crap.. We're not alone." I growled while reaching my hand to the side to make Rainbow Dash stop walking.

"This can't be.. This is the only tunnel we use during our cargo missions."

Rainbow peeked at the body. "And?" She added while lowering my hand.

"They found us, we have to hurry," I replied, grabbing her wrist to lead her into the exit.

"Why? What cargo mission?" The teen asked confused.

"It's our job, we bring cargo to our customers in exchange for guns, ammunition, supplies and food.. But we never smuggled a kid.. You're the first one."

Rainbow giggled. "I'm no kid, Cowgirl. What cargo do you bring them anyways?"

"Drugs. Just hardcore drugs and some other stuff." I answered with a laugh.

"Wait you serious? Can I have some?!"

I just ignored the Rainbow teen before entering another open room in the right.

"This is it, get in. We need to talk." I added, holding the door open for her.

After she got inside my room, she quickly dropped her bag down and jumped on the couch, resting her head on a pillow afterward.

"Awesome place Apples but.. What are we doing here?"

I rolled my eyes and sat beside her. "We just need to kill some time, we'll strike at night.."

"Then what am I supposed to do now?"

"Perhaps.. Mind telling me why I'm stuck with you? Why the hell are we even smuggling you out of town?"
