Chapter 1:
"Is everything ready for the The Embracement?" asked the Head Master.
"Yes, this year's 2,500 children have already been accounted for", replied Tannin. "I wonder who this generation's outlier shall be," commented one of the choice makers. "Oh yes Lupin! I too am wondering who this generation's outlier shall be, replied Tannin. "Isn't it such an honor to be chosen out of possible thousands! Imagine, out of everyone else at The Embracement, you were the one that was drawing everyone's undivided attention, just because of a raffle! I, obviously don't know what it's like to be the outlier...
"Sadly." whispered Atropa under her breath. "but can you just imagine the fame and attention!" shouted Tannin. "Keep your voice down, Tannin. You know we are in a top secret government facility. And, I don't know about you, but I would never want to feel the anxiety and pressure of being the outlier," replied the Head Master. "Don't you understand what they go through Tannin? Spending every day with the worst life ever imaginable. The only good part of being the outlier is the fact that he/she dies at a very young age to be put out of their misery," scoffed the Head Master. "Why yes, that is the down side, but imagine, everyone in the whole realm knowing my name!" screeched Tannin.
"If being the outlier is how Tannin wants to be famous, she must be very desperate." whispered Atropa.
Then, one of the most recently appointed choice makers piped up. "Did you ever think we should get rid of the whole "outlier thing" and just plan everyone's lives peacfully?"
"Are you out of your dang mind Robinia! Just saying something like that can get you fired and thrown into the mines!" yelled Taninn. "If you want to keep this job, which is the only thing that is keeping you fed, I suggest you keep your mouth shut!
"My deepest apologies Tannin." replied Robinia.
"Thank you Robinia, now go prepare the raffle, someone's life is about to change for the worst." said Tannin.
