Sounds in the Night | By Nathon
Robby blinked, where was he? He looked around and sighed, "Looks like I passed out... again." His nose scrunched up as a familiar scent reached his nose.
"Scourge."
He let out a growl and kicked the door open, "Robby! DUCK!" Robby's animal like reflexes reacted to the noise, the noise, not the words. He jumped into the air and kicked the Scourge in the face.
"Robby no!" Michael's voice rang through the hallways of the academy.
"Why are there Scourge in the academy?" Michael frowned, "Sorry KC, it got past me." Robby frowned and gestured to where Michael had just came from, "Then don't leave your post!" Michael nodded and ran back to where he was supposed to be.
"Yo KC!" Robby turned at his superhero name, Kid Canine, "Gator?" Gator grinned with his blue eyes glowing, "Could you do something about this thing? It's lunch time and Ali is a little hungry." Robby sighed as he looked at the black Scourge hanging from his friend's hand, "What do you expect me to do?" Gator elbowed the monkey Scourge, "I don't know, but this is like the only thing that Ali can't eat."
Robby kneed the Scourge in the chin and grabbed it by the tail, "Fine, go get your spirit-alligator some food. I'll figure out what to do with this thing." Gator nodded appreciatively and walked away, his eyes still glowing blue.
Robby followed his nose, and when he did, it wasn't a very nice smell. "Only Scourge could stink that bad." He ran forward, and was not surprised when many heroes had arrived.
The city was being totally destroyed, "And only the Scourge could do that much damage." Why didn't I know this? The alarm should have gone off... Robby combed his hands through his hair, "Oh man... I slept through the alarm!"
Robby rushed forward, the punishment for ignoring an alarm was not something Robby really liked. Well, Robby didn't really like punishment at all...
"Why didn't Gator tell me?" Robby rolled his eyes at himself, "Ha, that's a funny question... He probably slept through the alarm himself!" Robby gagged when he neared the smell of scourge and smoke.
"Disgusting!" Robby pulled his shirt over his face, "But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!"
"KC!! GET BACK!!" Robby frowned, "Wh-" He jumped into the air, grabbing onto the street lamp.
"Oh no... I am NOT passing out again." A green cloud swept over the ground below as he climbed up the pole. He squeezed his nose under his shirt, "Oh man... That's some stink!"
A black scourge jumped out of the cloud, it was like an ink covered ghoul. Its white eyes locked on to Robby, and it let out a screech that made Robby shake.
"Oh cheese..." He tried to kick it away with his foot, but he forgot one thing. The black goop on the Scourge wrapped around his foot.
"Oh cheese..."
"Let go of the pole!" Robby sighed, no other options were available to him.
"Goodbye world."
Then, he let go, and dropped into the green cloud.
. . .
Robby's eyes fluttered open and he put his fingers over his eyes from the pain of the flashing lights.
"You're awake." Robby laughed as his best friend sat up excitedly in the chair he knew all too well.
"Let me guess... I'm in the nurse's office." Michael grinned, "You've been spending a lot of time here after you got those powers."
Robby opened his eyes and laid his head back, "Yeah... At least I'll be able to catch up on homework. I'm totally awake now." Michael grinned, "Well, I brought your stuff for you." He pulled a few books out of his backpack and plopped them onto the table beside Robby's bed.
"You're gonna stay here tonight?" Robby nodded, "Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow man." Michael nodded, "Goodnight!" Robby smiled again as Michael walked out of the door. "Goodnight..."
Robby let out a long breath as the 50th pencil broke under his firm grip, another page was covered in tears. He brought his fist down on his leg, where he had no feeling whatsoever.
"Dang it."
Why did he have to choose these powers? Why, after all of that training, could he not do anything? He sighed as he lifted his laptop.
"I just have to try harder." He closed his laptop before turning it on, "You know what? It's time for a break." He walked towards the door and then down the hall. When he reached the part of the academy where he could look at the stars. Unsurprisingly Gator was laying there. Surprisingly, Gator was awake.
"Yo." Gator turned to Robby, "Yo." Robby laid down beside his friend, "Whatcha doin'?" Gator smiled a little bit, "Just looking at the stars, well, sky." Robby looked at the sky above, "Yeah, it looks pretty dark up there. I can barely see those things anymore." Gator laughed, "I remember we could see the strangest constellations." Robby laughed at the memories of him and his three friends looking at the stars.
"Robby... You slacking off?" Robby turned to his left, and there stood Michael. "No, I'm Gatoring." Michael shook his head at the term, "Well let me Gator with you." Gator pushed Robby's shoulder, "When did my name become a verb?" Robby grinned, just like it used to be... Suddenly, a loud crash came from one of the rooms.
"What the cheese was that?" Michael's brow furrowed, he knew to trust Robby's senses, "What?" Robby looked around, "There was a loud crash, you guys didn't hear it?" Gator looked at Robby with an annoyed look, "Yeah, we did. Bro, BB and I have the superpower to eat stuff and sleep. What'd you hear?" Michael punched Robby's shoulder.
"You calling me fat?" Gator grinned, "You said it, not me!" A loud growl came from Gator and he grinned, saying the same thing to the spirit-alligator inside of him. Robby put his hand up to silence them, and he stood still, for a very long time. Then he went on all fours, and did what he did best. He followed his nose.
