"Table number four,"

"Got it," I replied with a nod and walked to the booth in the furthermost corner. El's diner was the place that made you feel downright homey and cozy. The smell of freshly baked pie lingered in the air no matter what time you came in.

The whole place had this warm happy aura around it. The diner was what I'd call my happy place. Considering the fact that this is probably the only place you won't see me scowling because one, we have to greet customers and must be friendly. A bone I lacked in my body, to be honest.

Two, my boss is awesome and lets me try out their tin roof pies for free. Why? I don't know but the sixty-year-old man treats me like he has known me all his life.

It's only been a few days since I started working here but even my co-workers treat me like they've known me forever. I'm not entirely comfortable with their open-ish-ness yet but it feels nice to know that I'm...welcome.

I finished my shift by ten thirty but since Doreen, my co-worker left early, I was to do all the cleaning. I started to wipe the tables before noticing I wasn't alone.

There were was a small girl who looked around my brother's age and an infant in the hands of the mother. She was breastfeeding the little one whilst the man who sat across her fidgeted in his seat looking at his watch from time to time.

We closed by a quarter to eleven and now it was ten fifty. Sighing, I let it go and thought of letting them stay till eleven. I walked into the office room and informed Joe, my boss about this to which he waved me off with a wave, his subtle way of saying 'do what needs to be done kid'.

I swept, mopped, finished all the dishes and only had to put the garbage. I checked the front to see if the family was still there. And they still were.

Can they not see the closing time which was literally right in front of them in big bold red numerals? Under any other other circumstance, I would've gladly shooed away the customers but for the life of me, I couldn't get myself to make them leave.

Letting out a huff, I went out through the back door which led to an empty alleyway. With the heavy garbage bag in hand, I walked over to the bin which was at least ten meters away.

Grunting, I lifted the lid and threw the trash, letting out an exhausted sigh. I dusted my hands and was about to turn away when I heard a muffled groan.

I felt my face screw up in disgust.

Really? Couldn't they have picked a better place? What the hell is wrong with humanity?

The groans grew louder and at one point I wanted close my ears but something about the noise didn't sound...right. Now I'm no expert in that field but I'm sure anyone can distinguish the sound of someone in pain from pleasure.

Unless he/she is a masochist.

Bad Julie.

Bad, bad Julie.

Mind your own damn business.

But I couldn't help it. I had to look at it myself. I'm probably going to regret this and be scarred for the rest of my life. But at the same time, I won't be able to live knowing that someone could have been forced on.

I walked towards the source of the sound. The road was dark and the only light illuminating was from the moon and the small yellow lighting from the diner.

As I walked further it got darker and the sounds grew louder, I knew I was really close. With my heart in my throat, I took another few steps forward as quietly as I could and stared at a couple leaning behind a closed door. I could only make out the figure of a man so I couldn't see his partner.

Okay, maybe this was a bad idea.

I could literally feel my face burning up in embarrassment.

Abort mission!

Abort mission!

Abort mission!

Abort miss-.

Crunch

I internally cringed, cursing myself for stepping on a stupid can. The man was taken by surprise and looked my way.

Oh shit.

Way to go detective.

And in that fleeting moment, as I was going to run the other way, I suddenly heard the cries of a girl.

"Help me please!" she shouted her voice cracking.

Oh my god.

I turned around to see the man pressing himself against her, muffling her cries.

Without another thought, I ran towards the prick and jumped on his back, catching the asshole off balance. I wrapped my legs around him whilst pulling his hair hard, making it my life's goal to rip his hair out of his thick fat disgusting skull.

Within a few seconds, the asshole fell backward losing his equilibrium, taking me down with him.

Thud

I felt the air knock out of me as his body fell on mine. Roles reversed, I was the damsel in distress trying to get the bastard off me.

"You bitch!" he snarled raising his hand but then immediately fell to a side with a groan. The helpless girl who was seconds ago a crying mess now looked like a raging bull whose life's ambition was to turn break his male genitals. She kept kicking him until he curled into a ball holding his balls, groaning in pain.I'm not a sadist but this was just music to my ears.

Deserves this bastard right

Ignoring the ache in my back and the throbbing in my head, I walked towards the girl.

"Are you okay?" I asked crouching next to the girl, scanning for injuries. The first few buttons of her shirt were unbuttoned and the zipper of her jeans was halfway undone.

"Did he..?" I trailed off leaving the word hanging between us.

"No, no he didn't, you were there right on time," she said attempting to give me a smile but looked more of a grimace.

"I'll call the poli-"

"No, no please no," she said instantly.

I looked at her bewildered.

"He deserves to rot in jail for what he-"

"I know,"

"Then wh-"

"Please just trust me, okay?"

At the moment, all I could do was nod. The shock of what just happened had me shaken. I gave my cheeks a light slap, willing myself to snap out of the daze. "Come on, let's get out of here," I said glancing at the dude who was still on the floor one more time before leading her to the diner.

Inside, the grandfather clock struck indicating it was eleven thirty. I glanced at the girl who looked everywhere but me, quietly crying.

"Can I get you anything? A coffee perhaps?" I asked feeling uncomfortable, not knowing what to do exactly.

"No, it's fine, I better get going," she said wincing.

"How are you going home?"

"My car-"

"Okay cool, I'm driving," I stated before moving to close the diner. I checked the front to see the family long gone. Thank god

"Sorry what?" she asked looking at me through her tears as if I grew horns.

"I said I'm driving," I stated firmly.

"B-but-"

"You are in no state to drive, I'll drop you off its no biggie," I said rolling my eyes.

She crossed her arms stubbornly as if she was going to argue but then thought again before handing me the keys. Throughout the ride, nobody said a word. The girl was her crying quietly whilst I tried to ignore the jackhammer hitting the back of my head.

"Over here," she croaked and I parked her car in front of the two-story house.

l got off, slinging my bag over my shoulder before handing her the car keys.

"Thank you," she said with a sad smile.

"Take care of yourself," I said with a nod before walking homeward bound.
