Chapter 24

Rose inhaled quickly before bursting through the castle, leaving the rest of them behind. Inside was quiet with no one around. The abalone floors and mother of pearl throne gleaming in the moonlight, offering a sense of peace. But the eerie quiet left Rose unsettled. “Queen Stellina?,” she whispered loudly, unsure of what to do. “Hello?” As her chin began to quiver, footsteps sounded in the empty room. “Rose?”

Rose backed away then ran to the figure in the doorway of their planning room. “Queen Stellina?” The queen ran to Rose, holding up a lantern. “Oh Rose! I'm relieved to see you. Where are the others?” she asked pulling her into a warm embrace. An embrace so familiar. “They're here. But you need to hide now”. Rose responded pulling away, her eyes filled with fear. “Why, what's wrong?,” she questioned with an innocent smile. “Queen Spina is coming. She's going to hold you hostage. If she gets a hold of you, she'll threaten to kill you so we can surrender Uniclandia. You have to hide!”, Rose said, pushing Queen Stellina up the stairs. “No, I'm not going to hide. I'm fighting with you. She's gotten close enough so I can do my part,” the queen explained as she revealed a blue sapphire pendant. “Wh-what is that?” Rose asked distraught. “This pendent gives me the ability to enhance my powers”.

Rose grabbed her shoulders, shock dawning her expression. “What? You have powers? Why didn't you tell me?!” Queen Stellina placed a hand on her face, her eyes tearful yet warm. Those beautiful blue eyes…

“You live and learn, correct?”, Queen Stellina said racing for the doors. Rose leaned against the stairs, dazed. “Rose! Hey! Right now isn't a good time for daydreaming!" Amos said shaking Rose's shoulders gently. She glanced up, staring into Amos's green eyes. Rose nodded her head as the light in her hands returned. “The queen. She's here”. Rose said. Shivat got into stance ready to attack, Amos with his sword and armor, Mila's eyes glowing emerald as her vines lashed out when Mare surrounded herself with water and Fiama lighted with her fire. Rose took her place beside Queen Stellina as her pendant illuminated, allowing her hands to glow silver. The opal doors swung open, cracking to a lightning bolt. Queen Spina stood in the doorway, Arian stood with waves of radiating, humid air, and Flames growled wickedly as his fire opal eyes stood out from their shadows. “Hello again my ‘roses’,” she whispered as they fell silent. “I assume we're playing cat and mouse”. Queen Spina wore a dark dress with dark ruby stones encrusted on her hem, with her crown of iron and dead roses in dishonor of Uniclandia.

“Or are we playing a staring contest?”, she teased. Rose stepped forward enraged by her presence. “You can't win this”. Queen Spina chuckled, then scoffed. “Dear little Rose,” she sing-songed wickedly. Queen Stellina's breathing rapidly picked up from her tease, causing her to raise her hand slowly, the silver mist swirling like a winter storm. “I have more power than most of you believe. That's why your sweet Celeste, you know, poof!”, she said, her hands flying out to her sides. She then laughed at her own joke as she stared down at Flames. Rose took the opportunity to throw a bolt of light at her chest. Queen Spina stepped back in shock, grasping her ruby necklace. “I was playing nice,” she responded as fire bursted from her hands as Arian drowned out Rose with overwhelming air, knocking her out. Queen Spina then stormed through the throne room.

“Now I won't be easy on you, Stellina!”, she screamed as she went to tackle her. Stellina jerked her head the other way as her silver bolts of light crashed into Queen Spina's fire in a battle between the two powers.

“I don't want to hurt you, Spina. But if tears me apart to think I'll have to,” she said pushing her light forward. Queen Spina scoffed as her fire grew in size. “You've always wanted to hurt me, to take everything that was mine because you weren't satisfied with what was yours!” The two queens stepped closer, their fire and light growing brighter by the second. Queen Stellina shed a holographic tear. “I still -”, she began as Queen Spina was jumped by Shivat just as when Queen Stellina was attacked by Flames.

Amos and Arian battle violently, the two men clashing with their fists. Arian grinned evilly as Amos's face had a tinge of blue. Amos then slid his sword into his hand with his foot, then pointed the sword at his throat. “Want to surrender now?”, Amos asked coughing. Arian stepped away from Amos. “You know when Queen Spina loses this battle you lose as well. It may not be too late for you”. Amos pointed out as Mila crept up behind him, flower vines in close reach. “What do you say? Abandon the dark”. Arian stood motionless, gazing at his hands. “Amos is right, but I'll make you pledge on it,” Mila said grunting as she pulled the vines around him tightly. Arian tried to wiggle free, but between Mila and Amos, there was no room. “Surrender Arian! We can save you,” Mila whispered into his ear. Arian huffed as he tug a flower effortlessly. Then he nodded his head. “I surrender”. Amos glanced at Mila in surprise, but Mila narrowed her eyes. “You're lying. Prove it”.

Arian chuckled. “Free me first”. Mila let him go, but then wrapped another vine around his ankle. “I'm keeping you on a leash,” she said as Melody flew behind her. Arian grinned as he stepped farther away. He then turned and conjured up a wind storm around Flames and Queen Stellina. Flames turned growling, the hot air around him growing so thick it muffled out his whimpers. Flames then clinked his paw on his mouth and passed out. Queen Stellina rolled away from Flames, running to Mare and Fiama who were battling creatures made of thorns. Arian swiveled back with a smug expression. “Is that enough?” “You still have work to do,” Amos added.

Shivat still viciously clawed at Queen Spina. She shrieked in rage as she tried to push her off. “YOU BEAST!”, she screamed. Shivat then kicked as someone tugged her away. Queen Spina then crawled backward, shocked to see Rose's face. “His wind didn't knock me out for long,” she retorted.

Mare cried out as a humongous hand of thorns covered her body. Fiama then leaped into the air, firing up the thorns. Mare screamed when the hand dropped her. “NO!”, Amos yelled as she reached up to catch her. Mare then collapsed onto Amos, then peeled open her tightly shut eyes. Fiama rushed to Mare. “Mare are you alright?!” Mare held her wrist in pain, then glanced over at Amos lying still. “Amos!”, she said shaking his shoulders. “AMOS, WAKE UP!”, Fiama cried as she slapped his face. Amos shot up as he held his head.  “OW, WHAT?” Mare let out a slight chuckle and tackled him with a hug.

“You're lucky I saved you. I could've let you die, but I didn't,” Rose scoffed. “I am positive you would like to kill me. But a queen that kills? At least you're trying”. Queen Spina sneered as dead roses and thorns formed around Rose, enclosing her in a storm of Queen Spina. “At least I had MERCY ON YOU!!!,” she screamed trying to push thorns away, cutting her hands. “I know that dear. It's called being weak,” Queen Spina said with a slight smirk.  The roses and thorns had close around her to quickly, barely giving her room to breath. “AHHHHH!”
