Chapter 18
“Let’s find Amos, get to the Castle of Abalonia, then take a rest. Alright?”
“You do that, but I’m gonna hunt her down”, Rose said, the gold flecks in her eyes brightening. “Rose, STOP. She left for now” Rose stepped closer to Celeste. “I can’t stop. I saw a vision and we all ended up dead. Do you want to be dead with a thorn wrapped heart in your hand, or me to be mutilated by her wolf?” Celeste stopped breathing. “What?” “Yeah, so let me go” Celeste put a barrier of stars in front of Rose. “No. If you die, we die, Uniclandia will cease to exist”, Rose’s lighted hands fell to her side.
Celeste placed her hands on her slumped shoulders. “Find them first,” Celeste said calmly. Rose looked at the fear in her eyes, holding her trembling arms. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you, alright? Fine, we’ll go back,” Rose said tugging her arm lightly, leading her back to a weeping Mila. “Mila?”, Rose called. Mila lifted her head. “I… can’t believe she’s gone”, she said gulping. “She might not be. We’re going to take her back to the castle. We mind be able to find something to… bring her back to life” Mila’s eyes brightened. “You can? Let’s leave”, she said lifting Mare’s arms. “Someone take her legs”. Celeste attempted to lift her legs, but dropped them. “She’s heavy. We can’t” “Can we make her float?”, Rose asked, eyebrows raised. Slowly, Mare’s body was submerged in a cloud of golden mist, lifting her up. All of their eyes went wide.
“How did you do that?”, Mila said, her eyes glued to the miracle. “I’m not sure” “It’s one of her many talents. We gotta go,” Celeste said puzzled.
As they left the castle behind, Mare floated beside them peacefully. “This is the Amazonite forest, right?”, Rose asked walking backward. “Yes… but it’s destroyed. Smothered in her darkness, the evil presence she radiates”, Mila said with grief in her voice. Rose glanced at her hands, the lines traced with gold. Lifting her hands, rays of light shot through the burned forest. Rose flinched at the brightness. “The closer we get to the castle, the light will come back to us when it reflects on the castle”.
“Where do you think Amos is?”, Celeste asked, glancing around the forest. The vision of Amos’ dead eyes flashed in her head. “I don’t want to think about that…”, Rose replied trailing off. “Can you tell us what you saw?”, Mila questioned curiously. Rose quickened her pace. “No, I don’t want to” “Please? If you tell us, we might be able to avoid it” “I don’t think you can” “Why do you say that?”, Celeste pressed. Rose turned sharply and stopped to a halt. “If we lose, I don’t want you guys to know how you’ll die, okay? Does that give you a clear idea?” “That gave me chills”, Mila whispered.
As Rose turned forward, she stopped abruptly as the gold light reflected against the castle. “We’re here,” she said breathlessly.
