Chapter 1

Rose Linton sat staring at the screen in disbelief. She didn't realize that finding the perfect job would be that hard. It's incredibly hard. “How is this possible!”, she said to herself. The results for FindYourJob.com displayed her biggest fear: “No match for any career” and “Please rewrite your application or check your résumé, then maybe we can help you find a career just right for you!”  Reading those words gave her no hope, but only discouragement. She shut her computer screen, putting her head down, feeling ashamed that she is turning 22 and still doesn't know what kind of career she will have, or what she would even want.

“I must be an embarrassment to my parents”, she said aloud. “No honey, some people just find their career at different paces!”, her mom stated, carrying a tray of ginger tea and lemon scones. A wave of happiness and relief washed over Rose's face, smelling the freshly baked scones. “I knew that would perk you up!”. She hadn't eaten since 8:20 am, and sitting at the computer for 5 hours straight, with only 3 cups of coffee in her system, wasn't the best idea. “Oh, mom, you're a lifesaver!”. “ Oh, stop! That's just what I do!”, then they both laughed at how vain that sounded, especially coming from her mother. Her mother was an angel. Raising money to save animals, school fundraisers, invite the entire neighborhood to their BBQ ,and every kind gesture under the moon.

“So how is dad?”, Rose asked. “He is having a blast in there, but he very well knows that I'm not cleaning that kitchen by myself!”. “But, I don't think we can do it alone either", knowing what her mom was hinting at. Having all those guests over for a luncheon in their kitchen, was fun, but afterwards wasn’t so fun. “I would help, but I can't. I have to find a job by next month! I don't think I have much time for anything else.”, she exclaimed, and the overwhelming panic rushing back to her. “ No, you will help us clean up the kitchen because it is not healthy for you to sit at the computer for 5 hours straight! You need to move.” she said matter-of-factly.  Rose shot out of her chair. “5 hours already! I have to get to the library, and I can't miss another test.” All the thoughts and worries of schoolwork were making her feel shaky and dizzy. Suddenly, she felt like the world was tipping over.. then she realized she was about to topple over the patio table. Luckily, her father swooping in always at the right time, caught her before she fell. “Get her some more tea, honey!”. She was grateful her dad was there because it wouldn't be pleasant to fall straight on top of the white wood table, flat on her face.

“Thanks, dad”, she said weakly. She knew her mom was right. All she needed this weekend was a relaxing break. “How about you just lay down for a while, love?”, hearing the concern in her mom's voice. “Alright, fine. Wait, what about my class?”. Her dad sighed, then said, “We will let your professors  know you haven't been feeling well.” “Oh, thank you guys so much! You have no idea how exhausted I feel”. Her parents gave her an amused look. If anyone knew how much she worked 27/4, literally, it was her parents.

“Well, actually you do, sorry!”, she quickly corrected. “ You're fine! Now sleep, I can see that you're very stressed lately.”, her mother said, in conjunction with her father nodding his head. She can see and feel their concern. She sighed, and gave in. “Alright, I will.”, and gave her parent's a hug. “ Sleep well!”, both her parents called. She couldn't help but smile. Ever since she could remember, her parents were always in sync. She climbed the stairs trying not to fall, after all those sitting hours.

When she finally reached her room, she collapsed on her bed, wanting to sleep, but her mind was racing with so many tasks that were left undone. “One hour of studying won't hurt, right?”, she thought. Pulling out her pen and books from her desk, she began to write her notes she missed the other day. She ignored the possibility of getting a job she got an interview for, because for some strange reason, the manager  was “in a rush” and “didn’t have time to read hers”. Specifically hers. So she knew the manager wouldn't be calling anytime soon. Abruptly, her body stopped moving, making her decide to just sleep. Never mind, she thought. Crawling under her blanket, without a problem, she fell fast asleep.
