Chapter 36: A Deserved Rest
Downstairs, Heisenberg’s group faced their own challenges. As they cleared the lower floors, they were met with an unexpected sight.
Bela Dimitrescu, the eldest of the Dimitrescu Daughters, and Jake Muller, both clearly under the Flower Mold's influence.
Daniela and Cassandra froze for a split second upon seeing their Sister, but quickly snapped into action. The two of them moved to intercept Bela, intent on freeing her from the mind control.
Their attacks were precise and brutal, yet non-lethal, though Bela fought back fiercely, her movements just as vicious.
Meanwhile, Claire and Heisenberg confronted Jake. Claire knows how strong and resourceful he was, but didn't back down.
Heisenberg, with his metal manipulating abilities, wasn’t fazed by Jake’s enhanced strength, but he knew the battle wasn’t going to be easy.
Heisenberg: Something tells me that guy will be harder....
Claire: Oh wow, how do you know?
Heisenberg: Heh, this is why you're the fun one of the Redfields.
Heisenberg pulls up some shards of metal and sends them flying towards Jake, who dodged them with unnatural agility.
Heisenberg: Now let's play this smart
Claire nodded, aiming her gun and firing non-lethal rounds toward Jake to slow him down.
Claire: Just make sure we don’t kill him.
Heisenberg: Hah, I don't even know if I can, he is a tank of a boi!
Back upstairs, Rebecca launched a powerful kick at Blue, who barely managed to block it. He stumbled back, his fear still holding him captive.
Blue: Why.....why am I afraid?!
Eveline: Blue! Stop holding back! I know you're scared, but you're not like them!
Her words seemed to strike a chord in Blue. He paused, staring at Eveline as if searching for some sort of validation. His electricity crackled at his hands, still faint, but there.
Eveline: You're not a monster, you can control it. You saved me. You saved all of us. You can save them too! Remember who you are!
Her words seemed to resonate deep within Blue. He paused, his fists clenching as the electricity crackled faintly at his fingertips. The fear that had been gripping him slowly began to fade, replaced by something stronger....a sense of purpose.
He wasn’t a monster....he wasn’t Ezekiel...he was Blue....a protector, a fighter, and someone who had the power to save others.
Taking a deep breath, Blue finally allowed his powers to flow more freely. He extended his hand, sending small but controlled sparks of electricity through the bodies of Rebecca, Sheva, and Leon.
The effect was immediate, their bodies jerked slightly as the mold’s control was severed. The tension in their muscles loosened, their blank expressions shifting back to normal.
Rebecca was the first to blink, her eyes wide in confusion. Sheva stumbled back, holding her head, while Leon took a deep breath, his hand instinctively reaching for his sidearm before realising he was no longer in danger.
Jill stepped forward quickly, placing a reassuring hand on each of them as they tried to make sense of what had just happened.
Jill: Hey, it's okay, you're free now. The Flower Mold had you, but Blue took care of it.
Leon, still a little dazed, looked around, his eyes eventually landing on Ada. There was a brief moment of awkwardness, as everyone in the room could feel the shift in his demeanor.
He’d always had a thing for Ada, and now, seeing her here again, those feelings were impossible to hide.
Leon: Ada?
But Ada, ever the pragmatist, gave him a knowing look, raising an eyebrow.
Ada: Focus, Leon,. We’ve got bigger things to deal with.
Leon: Right....yeah, of course.
Eveline, who had been watching closely, moved toward Blue, her expression softening. She could see that despite his success in freeing their friends, Blue was still wrestling with something deeper, his own self-doubt.
Eveline: Are you okay?
Blue: Y-Yeah....I’m fine,
Blue's voice lacked conviction, he turns away for a moment, staring at the faint sparks still dancing across his fingertips.
Blue: But....I’m still struggling. Struggling to accept....who I am.
Eveline frowned but didn’t push further. She knew Blue well enough to understand that he needed time to come to terms with everything. But she also believed in him, more than anyone else did.
And she knew that, despite his internal battles, Blue would find a way to accept the power within him, and in doing so, fully embrace the protector he was meant to be.
As the others began to regroup and catch their breath, the tension in the air began to ease. The immediate threat was over, but there was still so much more to face. And though Blue was still conflicted, the determination in his eyes said everything.
The battle wasn’t over, not by a long shot. But for now, they had each other, and that was enough to keep them moving forward.
After freeing Rebecca, Sheva, and Leon, Blue made his way down to the bottom floor. There, he found Jake and Bela, restrained and still under the Flower Mold's control.
The sight of them, lifelessly struggling against invisible chains, stirred something in him. He wanted to help, but that familiar sense of unease gnawed at him again.
He clenched his fists, feeling the electric energy coursing through him, and with a resigned sigh, approached Jake and Bela.
Carefully, he sent a small, controlled spark through their bodies, freeing their minds from the mold’s grip. As their eyes flickered back to awareness, the weight of what he was doing hit him again.
It still felt wrong, wielding this much power. It always brought him back to what he was, what CORE had made him. Once Jake and Bela were conscious and recovering, Blue didn’t stop.
He moved through the base, quietly and methodically using his powers to free every BSAA agent that had been under control. With each spark, each release, the burden on his mind grew heavier.
Despite doing the right thing, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something inside him was fundamentally broken, this power wasn’t meant for him.
After the final agent had been freed, Blue stood there, staring at his hands as faint sparks of electricity crackled at his fingertips. He knew his actions were helping, but it still didn’t sit right.
No matter how many people he saved, no matter how many battles he fought, the core of his being...his past, the experiments, the torture...it will always loom over him.
Miranda, watching from a distance, smirked as if she was privy to his internal struggle. Leaning over to Eveline, she whispered.
Miranda: You better check up on him again, He's falling apart.
Eveline shot her a cold look.
Eveline: I know
She walks away from Miranda and toward Blue. She found him outside, standing alone by the edge of the base, his back to her, shoulders tense. The cold Alaskan air whipped around them, but Blue didn’t seem to feel it. Eveline approached cautiously, her voice soft but firm.
Eveline: Blue....
He didn’t turn to face her, but he let out a deep sigh.
Blue: I know...I know...I just...don’t like using it
Eveline: I know you don't, and that's okay. You don’t have to rush into it, you can take your time, do it slowly.
Blue: But....what if I don’t want to? What if I just...want to leave it all behind? This power...this thing I’ve become. I never asked for any of it...
Eveline’s eyes softened, and she reached out to place a hand on his arm.
Eveline: I know you didn’t. But you’re the only one who can do this, Blue. You’re the only one who can free them, free Ethan. He’s still there, waiting for you.
Blue: [Sighs] Yeah, you’re right. I’ll....I’ll try. I’ll try to figure it out.
Without saying a word, Eveline leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips, a gentle reminder that he wasn’t alone in this. When she pulled back, she gave him a reassuring smile.
Eveline: You better
Blue: I will
With that, the two of them stood in silence for a moment, the cold wind swirling around them. Eveline stayed close, offering her quiet support as Blue gathered himself, knowing that while the battle outside was far from over, the battle within him was just beginning.
As the tension from the battle eased, Jill suggested that everyone take some time to rest and recover. They had secured the second outpost, but there was still more work to do, and they’d need their strength for the coming challenges.
The group, weary from the fights and the mental strain, all agreed. The BSAA outpost had enough rooms to accommodate them, and slowly, everyone found a place to rest.
Blue, tired from both the physical battles and the emotional weight of using his powers, wandered into one of the quieter rooms.
He found a relatively comfortable chair in the corner and sank into it, hoping to catch some sleep.
Just as his eyes began to close, he felt a gentle weight settle onto his lap. Startled, he opened his eyes and saw Ashley, who had quietly sat down and was now cuddling against him.
Her head rested against his chest, her breathing soft and steady. Confused, Blue blinked at her.
Blue: Ashley? Do you need something?
Ashley: No...I just felt like doing this
Her voice was calm, and she looked at him with a sense of comfort, as if being close to him made her feel safe. Blue, being as dense as ever when it came to these kinds of things, didn’t think much of it. He assumed she was just tired and wanted a place to rest.
Blue: Alright, if you need to rest, go ahead.
For the next few minutes, the room was quiet, and Blue found himself growing drowsy again. Ashley, still resting on his lap, seemed content to just be there.
After a while, a voice from the hallway called her name, breaking the stillness. Ashley stirred, lifting her head.
Ashley: Thanks, Blue
She climbs off his lap and headed for the door. She gave him one last glance before slipping out to answer whoever had called her. Blue let out a long breath, thinking he could finally get some rest.
He leaned back, closing his eyes once more, and this time, he didn’t notice the two shadows that crept into the room.
Daniela and Eveline entered silently, each exchanging a glance before spotting Blue, fast asleep in the chair. Without saying a word, they both managed to find space on his lap, Daniela on one side and Eveline on the other.
They curled up against him, snuggling close as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Blue, in his exhaustion, didn’t stir. He remained unaware of the two girls resting on him, completely enveloped in their warmth as they quietly cuddled up.
Eveline smiled softly to herself, feeling content and safe, while Daniela’s naturally softer demeanor showing as she nuzzled into Blue’s shoulder.
The room was peaceful, and for a little while, despite the chaos and danger outside, they found a small moment of tranquility together. As Blue drifted into sleep, his mind wandered back to where it all began, the Baker House.
The cold, suffocating air of that Louisiana nightmare surrounded him as he relived the moment he had broken in.
A 17-year-old kid desperate to save Ethan and Mia from horrors he could barely understand. He remembered every detail, the twisted faces of the Baker family, the suffocating presence of the Mold, and most of all, Eveline, the girl who became his first true enemy.
She was a powerful force back then, controlling everything and everyone in the house, and at the time, Blue was still learning what he was capable of. The experience had been traumatizing.
Even now, the thought of that twisted house sent shivers down his spine. He had been so young, so unprepared, and Eveline, despite being just a child in appearance, was a terrifying foe.
And then she became his friend...and now they are in a relationship.....life is funny.
The dream shifted, jumping forward three years to the Village. The place was dark, oppressive, filled with Lycans, the Four Lords, and, at the heart of it all, Mother Miranda.
That was when everything got worse for Blue, Eveline, still present in his mind, wouldn’t leave him alone. She lingered, haunting his thoughts even as he fought through the village to save Rose and Ethan.
In his dream, he saw himself again, facing off against the Lords. Heisenberg, Alcina Dimitrescu, Moreau, and Donna Beneviento. The battles were brutal, unrelenting, and by the time he faced Miranda, Blue was broken physically.
But his comedy and the drive to save Rose kept him sane. As Blue's mind replayed the scene, he saw himself transfer Eveline’s essence into Ethan to save his life, a desperate move that ultimately worked.
But it came at a cost. Blue collapsed into a coma after that final battle, and in that void, something happened, he had met another version of himself.
His dream shifted once more, and now he found himself in the deepest, darkest parts of his mind. The empty void stretched endlessly around him, a place he'd been before.
Right on cue, he saw himself standing before him. The second Blue This version was just like him, only his expression was duller, his words slower, less colorful.
But despite that, the second Blue carried the same sarcastic and comedic undertones that made him feel familiar. Blue took a deep breath, facing his mental clone.
Blue: It's been a while
???: Nah then. I was wondering when you’d come back to check in.
Blue: So much has happened since...well, since the coma. I don't even know where to start.
The second Blue tilted his head, his dull expression focusing on him.
???: How about we start with the Flower Mold? That’s been a wild ride.
Blue: Yeah...the Flower Mold, Wesker, everything. It’s like every time I think things can’t get any crazier, they do.....it's a set up!
???: Welcome to your life. You were 17 when you took on the Bakers, 20 when you faced Miranda, and now? You’ve got Wesker to deal with. That’s some serious bad luck....oh yeah, and Bloody Nature as well
Blue: It’s not just that...I keep thinking about my powers. I used them at the outposts, but....it just feels wrong.
???: Still conflicted? Fair enough, you’ve always been afraid of your power. Ever since you got your abilities, you’ve been afraid of what it means for you. You’ve got electricity coursing through your veins, but you don’t want to be a monster.
Blue: I’m not a monster -_-
???: No, you’re not, but you’re also not normal. You’re something different, something more. And you need to figure out how to live with that.
Blue: I know...Eveline and the others keep telling me to embrace it, but it’s hard. Every time I use it, it feels like I’m crossing a line.
???: That’s because you’ve been afraid to let go. You think using your powers will make you like Ezekiel, Wesker, or Miranda, or any of the other maniacs you’ve fought. But you’re not like them. You’re you, and you get to decide how to use your power.
Blue remained quiet, thinking over the words. He knew his second self was right. He’d been afraid, not just of his power but of what it represented....his past, his future, everything in between.
He didn’t want to lose control, to become something he despised.
???: Look, you’ve survived the Baker House, the Village, and everything in between. You’ve saved Ethan, Mia, and Rose. You’ve freed people from mind control, and now you’re fighting to stop the Flower Mold from evolving. You’re a bloody hero, even if you don’t feel like it.
Blue: Hero you say?
???: Yeah, hero...despite how stupid that sounds. And you’ve got a lot of people counting on you....Eveline, Ethan, Mia, Jill...even Miranda, in a weird way. They’re all watching you, Blue...you’ve got this...I think
Blue: Hah....twat....I just don't want to screw it up
???: I know....also I think it's about time I get a name
Blue: Blue²?
Blue²:.....Bet
In the deep recesses of Blue’s mind, the banter between him and Blue² continued, as surreal as ever.
Blue²: Use your powers, you know you can
Blue: Yeah, I can use my powers, but damn, mental trauma is a thing, innit?
Blue²: Good point. Shit’s bad for us.
Blue: Did you just swear?
Blue²: Yes I did
Blue: But I never swear.
Blue²: But I do.
Blue: But....you're me.
Blue²: I know
Blue: So why did you swear?
Blue²: I don’t know.
A long, awkward silence filled the space between them. It wasn’t the first time they’d had conversations like this.
In fact, this was normal for them, the odd, sometimes absurd back-and-forth that somehow made sense in the inner workings of Blue’s fractured mind.
Blue: So...how are we gonna sort this out?
Blue²: The trauma? Or the part about you talking to yourself a lot?
Blue: Yes.
Blue²:......We don’t know
Blue: Indeed. Also, you barely show up as stated before. You're basically worse than a side character.
Blue², without missing a beat, dropped his next line with perfect timing.
Blue²: Fuck us.
Blue: Hah
The two exchanged another long, comfortable silence. It was a strange form of therapy, these little interactions, but they’d gotten used to it. They could talk about their deepest fears or make jokes that no one else would understand.
Then Blue², his expression shifting slightly, nudged the conversation back to reality.
Blue²: Alright, wake up, you've got weight on you
Blue: Deadweight?
Blue²: No, Nero is not there, it's our.....your girls
Blue: Are you a communist now?
Blue²: I am you
Blue: You truly are my special
Blue²: You still need to watch the Movie
Blue: When I get back from Alaska.
The conversation ended on that odd note, and Blue²’s form began to blur and fade as Blue slowly returned to reality, the dream world unraveling around him.
