WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?
Louie thought he would at least be messy when he fell into the cake. But instead, he was not only completely clean but also he somehow landed on the floor by the step ladder. He fell on his side confused. "Ouch! What was that?" he said in pain. He got up to his feet and rubbed his side. That's when he heard Dewey calling him.
"Louie? Where did you go?" Louie rushed out of the kitchen, sure he would be in trouble if he was caught there. He ran out to meet Dewey. "Right here," he said to his brother. Dewey looked up at him with a confused expression. "Are you cold?" Dewey asked. "What do you mean?" "You have your hoodie on." The blue duckling shifted the cake in his hands. "I always have my hoodie on," Louie replied, puzzled. His brother just shrugged. "Whatever."
The two of them stepped out of the establishment. Louie immediately noticed that the sky had grown significantly darker. It was smoggier and the air seemed less breathable. More of the buildings around the bakery had smashed windows and looked run down. Street was torn up and there were some billboards that read, "Flintheart Glomgold: Richest duck in the world." Louie felt off and suspicious.
Louie glanced at Dewey. Outside, Louie noticed that Dewey also looked a bit off. His sleeves were longer and draped over his hands. His hair looked sad and droopy, flopping over his face. He blew upwards to push his feathers back, but they just flopped back down. "Something weird is going on," Louie said under his breath.
They walked back to the mansion together, Louie more skeptical than he had ever been. Dewey stood at the door with the cake in his hands. They stood there for a while. Dewey raised an expectant eyebrow. Then, after rethinking it, began trying to open the door with his foot. "What are you doing?" Louie asked, smiling at the strange scene. "Oh, well first I was going to wait for you to open the door for me, but then I thought you weren't opening it because you were busy, so I was going to open it myself but then-" Dewey monologued. Louie stopped him by opening the door. "Oh, thanks!" Dewey said awkwardly. Louie followed his older brother inside.
Dewey handed the cake to Louie. "Okay, go put this in the fridge. Launchpad said he wanted a surprise party so he can't see it." Louie took the cake from Dewey. Louie twisted his bill and raised an eyebrow. "I thought Launchpad didn't remember it was his birthday?" "He was the only one who did," Dewey replied. Louie shrugged. "I guess I heard you wrong."
Louie walked to the kitchen. He opened the fridge door and put it in the fridge, hiding it behind the pep. He closed the fridge door. Behind the door was a little girl. Louie gasped in fear. The girl had a pixie cut with a big pink bow tied around her hair. She wore a pink skirt and a pink shirt. Louie squinted at her. It was a while before he realized who she was. "Webby?" "Yes?" she asked. "Did you get a hair cut, or do something new with your outfit? You look different," he said, trying to hide his shock. She thought a minute before shaking her head. "Nope, not recently." Louie just kept getting more and more confused.
Suddenly, Huey came running in the room with a flaming toaster. "Coming in hot!" he shouted, waving his cap through the air while running. A fork was shoved in the toaster. Huey ran the toaster over to the sink and doused it in water, putting the flames out. Louie watched with amazement at his oldest brothers acts. Once the red duckling pulled the fork out of it, he began petting the toaster. "Um, Hue, your hair's on fire," Louie said. Huey glanced up at the small flame dancing in his curly hair. He gasped as he patted it out.
"Well, I know better than to argue with you now. If you don't want to be fed with a fork, I won't feed you with a fork," he said, still rubbing his hand on the toaster. "Huey. You do realize you're talking to a toaster, right?" Louie asked. Huey made an offended face, jaw dropped and eyes widened.
"Um, excuse me! Where are your manners! Tell Bready you're sorry," he said, throwing back on his cap backwards. Louie was taken back. "Bready?" The green duck asked. Huey looked annoyed. "Since you've somehow lost your marbles, I will reintroduce you, even though you've known her since forever." Huey shoved the toaster in Louie's face. "Bready, Louie. Louie, Bready."
Louie kept from laughing. Was he going insane? What kind of messed up dream was this?
Louie left the kitchen, perplexed by a strange Huey and Webby. He strode back to the foyer but was amazed to find Feathry Duck there. "Cousin Feathry? What are you doing here?" the green clad duckling asked. "Um, I live here," Feathry said. Louie laughed. "Ha, good one." Feathry just stared at him. "Oh, you're serious." Louie clammed up. He didn't know what was going on, or why, but he desperately wanted to know.
Louie stopped upstairs to his room, frustrated. He plopped onto his bed. "What the heck is going on!" he screamed into his pillow. "What do you mean?" Louie looked up, realizing he wasn't alone. Dewey sat there curious. Louie turned in his bed, facing away from him. Dewey persisted. "Hey, you can tell me anything. I'm your younger brother, remember!" Another thing wrong. Last he checked, Dewey was older than Louie. He threw his hands up in the air. He was about to explode with frustration. Nothing seemed like it should.
Launchpad burst into the room. Louie was so surprised, he fell off his bed with a shocked yelp. "Sup, dorks," L.P. greeted. Dewey looked down with fearful eyes. Louie took note of their odd behavior. "Came to check in on my favorite duck," Launchpad said sarcastically. He leaned down and squeezed Dewey's shoulders tight. Launchpad pulled out a cake, the same one they had gotten from the bakery. "Look what I found in the fridge." Dewey had wide and scared eyes. "I thought I told you it was supposed to be a surprise party!" Launchpad yelled at the blue duckling.
Dewey flinched. Launchpad slammed the cake into Dewey's face. Dewey blinked sadly through cake covered eyes. "Next time, learn how to hide your cakes better, or else it'll be more than a frosting face."
Louie glanced between the two, both in horror and confusion. Even though he was puzzled, he couldn't stand to watch his brother be bullied. "Hey! Don't treat my brother that way!" Louie shouted as Launchpad turned to leave. Launchpad spun around. Dewey stared up at Louie with pleading eyes. Please don't do this. Louie ignored him. "What did you say, pip squeak?" "I said don't treat my brother that way." Launchpad grabbed a piece of cake that hadn't fallen on Dewey's face and rubbed it into the blue duckling's feathers. "I think I'll treat him a anyway I want," the adult duck said. Louie stood his ground, though scared of what this weird Launchpad would do. Louie grabbed a chunk of frosting from the ground and threw it at him. Launchpad was shocked and touched the small frosting on his cheek. Without warning, Launchpad smacked Louie across the face. Then he left the two brothers.
Louie held in tears. His cheek stung, but he wouldn't give the bully the satisfaction of his tears.
He got up and walked to Dewey's side. The young duck was a frosting and cake mess. Louie wiped the cake away from his face. "Are you alright, Dewey?" The sad duck nodded. "Last time this happened, I told you not to do this," Dewey didn't look up at Louie. "Last time? You and Launchpad are best friends. What's going on?" "What do you mean? I hate that jerk!" Dewey confessed. Louie watched as Dewey's eyes began to water. "Come on, the Dewey I know would stand up to that bully," Louie said, setting his confusion aside. "Me? The boy who's too scared to go in the deep end? The boy who pees his pants when public speaking? The boy who everybody knows is a nobody?" Dewey said, angrily and depressed.
Louie helped his brother up from the floor. "No, Dewey. The boy who sets off booby traps just for the fun of it. The boy who laughs in the face of danger. The boy who loves dragons and temples and peril." Louie corrected. Dewey glanced up at him disappointed. "I've never done any of those things." Louie shrugged it off. "Look, it's been a weird day for me, so just go with it," he said. Dewey, without looking at Louie, walked away. "I'm going to go wash up." Louie watched with sad eyes after his brother.
After he had left the room, Webby came running in. Louie was still taken back by her appearance. "Hey, Louie. Guess what time it is?" she asked. "Time for me to wake up from this horrible nightmare?" he said under his breath. "What?" she asked. "Hmm?" he redirected the conversation. "It's time for our tea party! You said you would come yesterday. You RSVPed," she said, holding up a cheaply made paper invitation. Louie took the page from her. "I don't remember signing this," he said. "Pft, silly goose, er uh, duck. Come on," she said, taking his wrist. She pulled him along to her room.
Knowing Webby, the tea will probably be poisoned, Louie thought. When he came into her room, he noticed a lack of arrows stabbed into the walls. Webby's conspiracy board was gone and there were a lot more stuffed animals. Webby had set them up around a small table. On one side, Huey sat boredly, drumming his fingers on the table. Webby sat him down next to Huey.
"Okay, the tea party can begin now," Webby said. She began pouring imaginary tea into their cups. Huey quickly pretended to slurp up the "tea". "Okay, tea party over. I have to go give Bready a bath," the red duckling said, rising from his seat. "Ah, you didn't hold out your pinky." Huey grumbled and sat back down. Louie watched his friends oddly. When Webby wasn't looking, Huey leaned over to Louie. "You know, she tricked me into coming. We flipped a coin and she said heads I had to go to the tea party, and tails she would drink tea with me." He stared at his feet annoyed. "You know, sometimes I wish I was smart like you. I would never be tricked like that," Huey said, without looking up. Louie just rolled his eyes at another strange thing today had brought upon him.
After the tea party, where Webby started crying after Huey said he was crowded with many stuffed animals, Huey excused himself and Louie from the party. Huey walked with Louie through the halls of the manner. "I'm going to watch some tv on my phone, nice seeing you," Louie said, turning to leave to his room. Huey stopped him.
"Since when do you watch tv?" Huey said confused, jumping in front of the disoriented hooded duck.
"Since forever, what are you talking about?"
"No, you say tv is the lazy man's sport."
"Exactly. I'm a lazy man."
"Pft! Louie duck? A lazy man?"
Louie waited for Huey's explanation. Huey began to waltz in circles, ruffling his hand through his feathers. "Pah- leese! You volunteered to help set up for a dance at school, move rocks for uncle Scrooge, and even help me feed Bready!" Louie just sighed as the nightmare kept spiraling down into more madness. "Alright, let's get your toaster fed already," he sighed.
In the boys' room, Louie was shocked to see what Huey fed his pet toaster. "You feed it pages from your junior woodchuck guide book!?" Louie flipped out. Huey stared at him oddly, ripping another page from his book. "Duh, what else? She likes to read the fun facts on it, like those type of gum wrappers," he said. He jammed the pages into the slots on the toaster. "I'm starting to realize why you're prone to catching on fire," Louie said vaguely.
Louie still felt a bit weird about how his family had been acting. He also noticed that Huey kept wearing his hat backwards. It was disorienting to watch him for Louie. He leaned over and twisted Huey's hat forward. Huey waved his brother's hand away and reversed the cap again. "Stop it. If the hat's forward, it's easier for it to catch on fire. If it's behind me, and thus behind the fire, it won't incinerate," Huey explained. Louie questioned his logic for a bit.
Something caught the green boy's eye. As Huey tore another page from his book, a word from the page flashed in Louie's eyes. Opposite. "Wait! Let me see that!" He snatched the page from his brother, leaving him with startled. Louie mumbled the words on the page. The entry read:
The Negaverse and the Possiverse
The Negaverse is a realm parallel to the Possiverse where everything is reversed. These opposite dimensions can be traveled between via a Possigem (figure A.1) which can be found in the Possiverse or with a Negagem (figure A.2) which can be found in the Negaverse. But if two alternative beings are united with both gems...
Huey grabbed the page back from Louie's hand and burnt it with the toaster before he could finish reading. Louie watched as his answers went up in flames. "Huey! I was reading that!" "Well, Bready was hungry!" he retorted. Even though annoyed, Louie had read everything he needed to. He jumped up. "Wooh! I'm not insane! This is the Negaverse and I somehow got trapped here!" He smiled at his new found relief. Huey watched him with a puzzled expression. "Oh wait, I have no way to get back home!" Louie freaked, realizing his new problem. He grabbed Huey by the shoulders. "How do I get back home?"
"And I thought I had a screw loose," Huey thought out loud. Louie tried to clear everything up to him. "Look, I'm from another dimension where everything here is opposite. In my dimension, you're a nerd, Dewey is brave, and Webby... Webby is something else, and cousin Fethry doesn't live here. I barely even know him," he described. "But Fethry is the most popular person in town," Huey said. "Of course he is," Louie said blankly.
"Back to the point,. I need to get back to my dimension so things can go back to normal," he said. Huey tried to grasp what he was saying.
"You mean, I'm smart where you come from?" he said. "Yeah, but that's besides the point. I have to get home." "I have to tell everyone!" the red duck said. Louie widened his eyes and stopped his reverse brother. He waved his hands in a worried way. "Wait! Don't tell anyone else. Keep it between us," Louie said. Huey thought some more.
"So then where's our Louie?" the boy asked, suddenly a new sense of worry for his brother coming over him.
Well, that's it for now. I really enjoyed writing this. Also, who else has some how grown attached to the toaster? In the version in my head that I had made months ago before I had an account on here had Huey saying something like Bready was his only friend. (So sad!) Also, I made Nega- Webby be the original one because she's as opposite as Webby can get in my opinion. Any predictions for the rest of the story?
Here's what the Negaverse Triplets look like (They're on the cover too):
You can see the program I used to draw it.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Till next time!
