Prologue
{Word Count: 2063}
Tari sat in a chair in front of her window that overlooked the village. Unable to sleep, she hadn't been for weeks, maybe even months. The moon was bright, her kingdom quiet. Almost too quiet, normally their would be crickets but they're were none.
" Tari." A voice rung from the hall. It was a voice she didn't recognize. " Tari." The voice said again but this time it was closer. She made her way to the door, and grabbed the handle to pull it open. The door creaked causing her to cringe.
Sticking her head out the door, she found the hall empty. Knitting her brows together she called out, " hello?" Maybe they thought she was asleep and left, she thought. Closing the door and making her way over to her bed to lay down.
"Tari!" The voice yelled, but this time it sounded more familiar. Heading back to the door, she stepped out into the hall and looked both ways. Why did the voice sound so familiar? " Tari!!!"
It hit her like a ton of bricks, it was her mother. She followed the voice. She frantically ran to her mother and fathers chambers. The stone walls seemed to be closing in on her.
She busted through the door, only for the room to morph into her mother, father and brothers standing in the hills of Dunkelheit. The bright green grass now brown, the flowers were leaned over drained of life.
A figure stood before her family, but they hadn't noticed her. She went to walk forward but the figure turned around with a devilish smirk. It was her? It didn't look like her, her blue eyes now a grayish, she had bags under her eyes, her clothes no longer bright colors but black.
She looked almost evil.
Her eyes watched as she turned around back towards her family. Her family's mouths were stretched and drawn back, exposing their teeth. Vertical wrinkles appear between their eyebrows.
A loud screech filled the air, she looked up to see her dragon land beside her clone. Again unable to move she watched as her clone said " dracarys." Her dragon lifted its head in the air and let out another screech.
It then turned its head to her family, it's mouth letting out a orange glow before it shot out fire on her family. Her heart clenching in her chest, screaming at her to run forward and help them.
Her family's screams echoing over the hills. She wanted to help but she couldn't move, she tried but it was like going against a current. Impossible.
Her clone stood there with the same smirk on her face. She watched as the skin melted off her brothers face, her mother and father tried to help her brothers. But against dragon fire there was nothing they could do.
She's never felt more helpless, she could only watch with tears in her eyes. A cry leaves her lips as their bodies fall to the ground and their screams stop, the smell of burning flesh fills the air. Their bodies still burning, but they were gone.
Her knees wobble out from under her, she collapsed. Her shoulder shake with sobs, she had not helped them when they cried for her. A voice interrupted her, it was her own only darker " this was your fault." She looked up at her clone, her eyes were dark. They were like nothing she had ever seen before.
She stood up. " My fault?" She asked her clone. Her clone just let out a wicked laugh, " of course it's your fault." She wouldn't do this, her family was the dearest thing to her.
How was this her fault? " How? Why?" Her clone let out another laugh " you let your own ambitions take over." The fire began to go out behind them.
Tari looked over at her family, or what remains of them. Tears stream down her cheeks as she turns back to her clone, only to see nobody there.
Finally able to move she run to the remains of her burnt family. She wouldn't have been able to recognize them if a piece of her mother's hair hadn't been untouched. Her father used to tell her " Fire can't kill a dragon." Guess he was wrong, she thought. Tari sat down and pulls her Mothers head on her lap, her shoulders shaking with sobs.
She caressed her mother's now burnt cheek. "I'm sorry naneth " (mother). She gently laid her mother head back down on the ground. She looked over to her fathers body. " Oh, ada." (father) her cries echoing over the hills.
She turned toward her baby brother Callon, "I'm sorry Muindor, I was supposed to protect you and I let you down." ( Brother) His eye cover now burnt, the gem she gave him was in place of his eye. The Memory made the tears fall faster and her cries to get louder. She kissed the gem before moving on to her older brother Aegnor.
Patches of his hair still sit on his head, she rubbed his head before putting her forehead against his chest. her shoulders shaking with sobs.
" Tari!" She felt someone grabbed her shoulders, she turned around but no one was there. The voice screamed again but louder. "Tari!!" her body still trembling as the voice got louder and louder.
Suddenly a bright light appeared to her right illuminating the trees and the grass around her. Her eyes squint as she try's to see what it was, she stands up as the light seems to be walking closer to her.
As the light got closer, a person's figure appeared. "Galadriel?" Tari quickly bowed her head and wiped her tears. " I'm sorry if this comes off rude, but why are you here." She asks the lady of Lothlorien. " You must wake up child." Tari's eyebrows knit together. " wake up?"
Then everything went black..
Tari shot up from her bed, her heart pounding in her chest, and her breathing ragid. Her mother and father were at either side of her, and her brothers at the end of her bed.
They weren't dead.
A smile spread across her face as she, jumped towards her mother and hugged her neck. She leaned back to take a look at her mother before looking at the rest of her family. They didnt seem to be as happy as her. Her smile fell, "what is it?" Her mother grabbed her hand, "Your dreams they're back?"
Her mother looked at her with her eyebrows raised. A sigh left Tari's lips as she looked down. " yes." Her family all let out shaky breaths. " What happened, you were crying." Callon asked his big sister.
" I was in my room watching the village from my window." She explains as she points to the chair by the window. " when a voice called my name, i went to look but the hall was empty." Her eyes flicker from one of her family members to the other. " So I went to lay down, but the voice called my name again." She looked at her mother " it sounded familiar but I couldn't tell who's it was, I went back to the hall and it was still empty."
Tari clenched her eyes shut as she continued the next part. " it was you mother." She looked back at her mother who gave her a sad smile, before squeezing her hand if telling her to continue. " I ran to your chambers but when I opened the door, it morphed into Dunkelneit hills." Tari looked at her brothers, who were looking at her listening intensely.
She turned towards her father and continued " you all stood there, but there was a figure in front of you. It was me, but it didn't look like me. It looked evil." Tari knit her eyebrows as if trying to understand it herself.
" then Adalinda landed beside her, and she told her to burn you guys." Tears began to form in her eyes, her mother's grip on her hand tightens. " and she did, I try to help I did but I couldn't move." Tears pour from Tari's eyes as she looks up at them. " then when your bodies fell she looked at me and said it was my fault." Tari shook her head and look at her father " but I wouldn't. No."
Aegnor leaned forward and grabbed her knee, " it's okay Muinthel we know." ( sister) he smiled at her and she returned it.
Tari continued to explain her dream" I looked away but when I looked back she was gone. I went to say sorry to you." Tari's face lightens up " Galadriel was there." Her family's eyebrows knit together. " what do you mean? Why?" Her father asks.
She looks at him and shakes her head. " I do not know, but a bright light appeared as it got closer i could tell it was her. I asked her what she was doing there but she just told me to wake up."
Her father just excuses himself and walked out, her mother soon following after. Her brothers then took their parents place beside their sister. " I thought you were gone." She spoke to the both of them, they just smiled sadly at her.
They talked for an hour maybe before they left to head back to sleep, and so Tari could get some rest also. But they knew she wouldn't be able too.
Tari stayed staring at the ceiling playing her dream over and over again in her head. She could still hear their screams and smell their flesh burning. A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts which she greatly appreciated.
She must had been laying there for hour because the sun had already risen. Her room now brightened up by the sun rays.
She walked over to the door and opened it to find her handmaiden Freda. " your father requested your presence Princess, I must help you get dressed."
After Freda got Tari dressed, Tari headed to her fathers study. She loved walking the halls in the morning, it was always quiet and peaceful.
The gray stone wall were cold as she drug her fingertips across it. She finally reached the door and she knocked.
" you may enter." Her fathers voice said from the other side. She pushed the door open to revel her fathers study. Bookshelves lined the back walls, filled with books and scrolls. His desk sat in the middle of the room. This had always been her favorite room in the palace.
Tari sat down in the seat opposite of Balin. "You needed me father?" He smiled at his daughter and nodded.
" Yes, Elrond has requested you and your brothers go to Rivendell for an important council meeting." Tari's lips purse together as she looked at her father with a dazed look. "why us?"
Balin shook his head and smiled. " you may ask him yourself when you get there, your brothers are getting everything ready for your Journey."
Balin's face then turned serious " talk to him about your dreams, he's wise he might know what going on." Tari replied with a nod and a smile.
Tari and her father left his study and made their way to the gardens where her mother and brothers were waiting.
When they made it to the garden Callon and Alma were already saying goodbye. Aegnor stood to the side.
Callon and Alma pulled away from their hug when they heard footsteps.
Tari couldn't remember the last time she left Dargonsbane. The people outside of her kingdom they whispered about her when she would walk by, so she stopped leaving here. That was decades ago.
Her mother smiled at her and pulled her into a hug. " ignore their whispers, and prove them wrong." She said then kissed her daughters head. She smiled back at her and nodded " I will naneth." (Mother) Content with her answer Alma let her go.
Tari turned towards her father, who engulfed her in a hug. " safe travels." He let go of her before going to say goodbye to his sons.
The three Feur siblings mount their horses, and make their way to Rivendell. What for, they didn't know.
