Elrond's Council
{Word Count: 2357}
The Feur's had never been thought of as important, especially to attend a meeting such as the one about to occur. Balin had never even been to one as important as this one. Tari had never thought of herself worthy of such a thing just as people told her she didn't, Callon and Aegnor did not care as much. Sure they hated being thought in the way they did, but they didn't let it bother them like Tari did.
As soon as they turned the corner all conversation stopped and all eyes fell upon them. Tari froze in her spot but Elrond smiled at them and pointed to their seats. Tari tried to smile back but she failed. Aegnor led his siblings to their seat. Tari was sat beside Frodo, Callon beside Tari, and Aegnor beside Callon.
Aegnor took the seat beside the other elves because he didn't want his little brother and sister to deal with them, and he knew if Tari got nervous Callon would be the best to help. Aegnor had never really been emotional since Elnora, his family knew that and they understood.
" hey Frodo." Tari said with a smile, the wizard beside him gave her a familiar look before taking Frodo's attention away from her. Of course the only person here beside her brothers and Elrond that didn't hate her was going to be turned against her.
Tari shook her head with a sigh and turned to Callon, but his gaze was faced forward. She turned to see what he was staring at. A smirk crept up on her face. " who is he?" Aegnor heard and joined the conversation, with a smirk on his face also. " They call him Strider." Her smirk slowly began to fade."But his true name is A-" Tari moved her gaze back to her brothers. " Aragon...." They both look at her with their eyebrows raised. "you know him?" Tari shook her head with her lips together. "You could say that."
With that they all looked at Elrond who began to speak. " Stranger's of distant lands, friends of old." Elrond looked around at everyone as if he were observing them and their actions. "you have been summoned here to answer the threat to Mordor." The Feur siblings all looked at one another. Mordor? As if Elrond expected their reaction he looked to them with a nod.
Tari's knee began to shake, it had started after her sisters death. She had not known why it did that, she tried to stop it but it never worked. A little hand placed on her knee made the shaking stop. She looked over to Frodo with a smile which he gladly returned then removed his hand. " you will be fine Tari." he mouthed to her. There was something about those Four Hobbits that made her, her old self again. Her brothers looked at the interaction with their lips parted, they had never been able to calm that down. They were soon broke out of their thoughts by Elronds voice continuing.
" Middle Earth stands on the brink of destruction." The Feur's felt all eyes on them once more. The whispers then started "The Feur's are the cause of it." " They will be on Saurons side soon enough." "They don't deserve to be here." " why are the even here?" Elrond then soon interrupted them " Enough!" Silence overcome the Council. " If you have a problem with the Feur's being here, you may leave but you may never step through the Rivendell gates again." Elrond waited for anyone to leave but no one did, a smile appeared on his face. " Great, may I continue?" Except he gave no one time to reply before continuing.
The Feur siblings all looked at each other with wide smile, then back to Elrond. " none can escape it, you will unite or you will fall." All the eyes look around with curiosity, all trying to get whatever answers from the ones around them. " Each race is bound to this fate.. this one doom!" Fate? Why did this feel like a sign, Tari knew this was probably all in her head as most things were. But when Elrond looked at her she knew it wasn't. Whatever Elrond was about to tell everyone was her and her brothers destiny.
Elrond then turned to Frodo with his right arm outstretched. " Bring forth the ring Frodo." Frodo's tiny body slowly stood up to make his way to the pillar in front of Elrond, he placed the ring down then made his way back to his seat. The tension in the air made everyone uncomfortable, they all tried to shake the feeling that arose in them.
" So it is true." A man from across Tari said breaking the silence making her eyes snap towards him, to her he looked not quite like himself. Tari had not known the man but she could see it in his eyes.
Whispers then filled her ears, she looked around but no one was talking. Had she been hearing things? But the voice was evil sounding, she gasped and looked down at the ring. Black speech. Her father had told her of it. He only told her she would know what it was just by hearing it, and she believed she had just then heard it.
The voice got louder. But the same man from Gondor stood up, drawing her gaze back to him. " In a dream I saw the eastern sky grow dark." What is he doing? Tari thought to herself while pinching the bridge of her nose. "but a pale blue sky lingered, the voice is crying."
Aegnor and Tari were both trying not to laugh, Callon was picking at his nails with his sword obviously bored. The man then made his way to the ring " the doom is near at hand." Aegnor let out a laugh but quickly covered it up with a cough. But no one seemed to notice, so the three Feur's look to each other with a smirk. "Sodium's pain is found." The man inched closer to the ring with each word.
Tari caught glances with Aragon her eyes widen expecting him to look at her with disgust, but he smiles which she politely returns. Her attention then turns to the Gondor man trying to grab the ring. "Isildur's Bane." Was he a fool? Tari thought to herself. The warm glow of the sun vanished and darkness replaced it. Elrond and the wizard both shot up from their chairs, the wizard stands and begins to chant in the Black Speech. The ring echoes harsh words. Thunder crackles as the sky still darkens. The Council stare around in fear and confusion.
The voice of the Ring dies away. The thunder comes to a stop. People resume their seats, horrified, Boromir amongst them.
" Never before has a voice uttered the words of that tounge here in imladris." The wizard was about to leave but stopped and looked to Elrond. The wizards voice was raspy from the force of the words and the language "I do not ask your pardon, Master Elrond, for the Black Speech of Mordor may yet be heard in every corner of the West! The ring is altogether evil!"
He gives the man of Gondor a final scathing glance and resumes to his seat. But the man doesn't give up " "It is a gift. A gift to the foes of Mordor." He then looks around at the Council. "Why not use this Ring?" He begins to pace around. "Long has my father, the Steward of Gondor, kept the forces of Mordor at bay. By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe! Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy. Let us use it against him!"
'Oh great here we go.' Tari whispered to herself. Callon chuckled from beside her. "You cannot wield it! None of us can. The One Ring answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master." Aragon argued. Yet the man still didn't give up, Tari needed to know how this man did it.
"And what would a ranger know of this matter?" A figure shot up in the corner of her eye, she turned to see the Prince of Mirkwood. Legolas, also known as the prince of the kingdom that hates the Feur's the most. "This is no mere ranger. He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance."
The Gondor mans face contorted into shock. "Aragorn? This... is Isildur's heir?" Legolas quickly answered "And heir to the throne of Gondor."
Aragon raised his hand and shook his head "Havo dad, Legolas." (Sit down) The Gondor man turns to Legolas "Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king." Tari rolls her eyes
He made his way back towards his chair. "with how your acting maybe they should, with you walking around trying to give order." Tari snapped back without thinking. He slowly turned around as all eyes looked at Tari. Aegnor and Callon both put their heads down knowing what was about to happen. " You a woman? And a Fear think you can talk to me like that."
Tari abruptly stood up and made her way over, glaring at him. " Woman? Is that meant to insult me? I would return the slap if I took you for a man. And as for me being a Feur, I'm proud because I know your not half the man my brothers and father are. Now I suggest you sit down." A arm pulled her away from him, she looked up to see Aragon with her brothers behind him.
Realizing what she had just done her eyes widen. " what did I just do?" They just smiled at her. " you just put him in his place." Aragon said with a chuckle. That's felt good, maybe she needed to do that more she thought to herself. Callon and Aegnor lead her back to her seat before the council continued.
"Aragorn is right. We cannot use it." The wizard said acting as if nothing had just happened. Elrond stood from his seat " You only have one choice, the ring must be destroyed." Everyone yet again looked around with fear and confusion.
A minute of silence passed before a dwarf stood up. " What are we waiting for!" He walk forward and slammed his axe down causing it to crumble. Frodo flinched and groaned next to Tari, her eyebrows knit together and she looks at him. " Frodo are you alright?" Frodo grabbed his head " I do not know." He answered.
Tari got the wizards attention before motioning towards Frodo. " I believe the ring is affecting him." She said worryingly, he nodded before taking over with Frodo.
Tari turned back to the scene in front of her. "The Ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Glóin, by any craft that we here possess. The Ring was made in the fires of Mount Doom. Only there can it be unmade. It must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came." Is this the Destiny Elrond, her father and her mother believed they needed to fulfill.
Elrond turns to the Feur's "One of you must do this." Tari looked at her brothers and they looked at her. They knew this was it, what else could it have been. But why them? Why not Aragon? Why not the prince of Mirkwood? They had never been nothing special, sure they were Royalty but that's only because their family got banished from other lands so now they have their own near Rivendell.
"One does not simply walk into Mordor." The Gondor man who Tari learned was called Boromir stated. "Its black gates are guarded by more than just Orcs." He glanced at Tari but quickly looked away. "There is evil there that does not sleep. And the great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland. Riddled with fire and ash and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly!"
Legolas stands indignantly "Have you heard nothing Lord Elrond has said? The Ring must be destroyed!" A dwarf Tari didn't know the name to shouts back "And I suppose you think you're the one to do it?!" Legolas sends a glare his way.
What was arguing going to help, Tari had never been the smart child that's was always Callon. But she knew that this wasn't going to solve anything. Boromir rises "And if we fail, what then?! What happens when Sauron takes back what is his?!" The dwarf follows "I will be dead before I see the Ring in the hands of an Elf!"
Tari had no known how foolish they really were. " Yet it is now!" Tari shot back at the dwarf. " the ring is in Rivendell and who is the lord of Rivendell?" The dwarf scoffed but shut up, but the rest continued to argue. Legolas held back the rest of the elves.
As the arguing got louder and louder, she heard a voice call out beside her. " I'll take it!" But no one seemed to notice. She elbowed Callon, and motioned for him to whistle. She knew how but he did it better and his was louder.
All the arguing stopped and they looked over towards them. Frodo nodded towards Tari and walked a little ways forward. " I will take it! I will take the ring to Mordor." Tari looked around, most faces showed shock and most showed fear. A smile formed on her face as she watched him, he had bravery and she admired that. " though I do not know the way."
The wizard then walked towards him " I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins." Tari's gaze the met Elrond's he was already looking at her with a smile, he nodded and that's when she knew this was her and her brothers destiny.
