Ch. 10 Foreign English?
Gavi
Whoa whoa, hold on, demons? Oh not this again... It just seems too surreal. It's not like we have any holy water anyway.
"Hurry! They're getting closer!!" She started panicking again. And just like last time, she left me alone. Whatever. At least this time I do have a chance to defend myself.
I hurried to lock all the windows and doors on the first floor. All while wondering how much of this is real. I should probably be wondering if I'm still sane at this point...
I went up to the second floor to lock all the entrances too. I got some of them, but I decided to leave a few open. If somehow they get in, I'll need an escape route. Sure they can get in through there now, but this is my plan and I'm sticking with it. Guess I'll leave what happens next to dumb luck.
I went back downstairs to the kitchen. I grabbed the sharpest knife we had and went to a little hiding space between a wall and the first hall from the doorway. I positioned myself for a good slashing stance, just in case he's armed and dangerous.
My phone beeped, someone must've texted or something. With my main focus on the door, I checked my phone. It was a text from a blocked number. "How shocking," I said to myself. Alright, I've seen horror movies, I know the routine. I put my phone to the side, I'm not gonna be a victim of a cliche.
"Okay you little demon punk, I'm ready for you. So go ahead and-" My phone kept going off, but I let it be. "Go ahead and-" The notifications were coming in with increasing speed. I gave in and checked my phone again. They were all messages from the same thread from the same blocked number. I hesitated for a second before I gave in and opened the text thread. Just as I did, a new message came.
It read, "Hey, it's me Melanie, we'll be able to talk through texts now! But I'm gonna have to type in our language, ok? You'll figure it out if you don't know it -Mel"
Ugh. Even in text she's annoying. I don't know what happened to her. It's like she's a whole different person now. She used to be so perky and sweet. Mel used to go to the park by the church and collect flowers to use for making bracelets and other crafts. But now, she's so... different. Yeah, even with what's been happening lately, I feel like Mel isn't like her old self. Maybe death and the afterlife changes people...Or maybe... just maybe...No. That's probably not it. I'm jumping too far ahead with what little of I've seen of Mel. I should wait and see how this whole Mel thing plays out...
A new message from Mel (the blocked number) came, and it read, "Yeh, teg ydaer, s'eh gnimoc!"
Um what? "Sorry, I don't speak stupid" I replied back, throwing my phone back to the side after I did. It's been awhile, and they haven't shown up yet. I guess I better keep my guard up anyway, just to be safe.
Jesse
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" Ferris wasn't lying when he said "in a flash." I was still looking up when he finished the little travel mantra. Then when I look back down, I'm suddenly in front of a big house in a place I didn't recognize.
"Where are we?" I asked Ferris. He was behind me, perfectly calm too.
"We, my friend, are at wherever you just imagined."
"You mean, I just sent us here? To her house?"
"If this is the place you thought about, then yes."
I took a look around. This place is a lot more rural than Oasis. From what I could see, all the houses were big with even bigger residential properties. Some of them looked like ranch houses. Others (like Gavi's) looked more normal and modern. Even then, they were all rather big houses. At least compared to Madam's they are.
"So where exactly are we?" I asked Ferris.
"Well..." He looked around for himself. "Looks like we're in the Oasis estates. People here like the wild nature,"
"Oh, that's cool,"
"That, or they like big houses and have money to burn so here they are."
"Oh, okay then." I wonder which one Gavi is. Nature loving person, or richy rich rich. I turned to her house. Yup, it already has a not welcoming atmosphere. Looking into one of windows, I couldn't see anyone. Maybe nobody's home right now.
"So, here we are. Guess I'll be taking my leave now, see ya later Jess!" Ferris said.
"Bye Ferris!" I turned to face him, "I'll see you la-" but he was already gone. "-ter..." He was gone in last then a second. I guess he must've used the mind travel thing. It did seem like a really fast process. Fast, just like him. Ha, I bet he has more fast magic in his sleeve. Too bad I can't see more of it right now...
Anyways, I turn back to Gavi's house. I start walking towards the front door on the weed ridden brick pathway. Some flowers in the lawn were blooming. Most however, were dying with the coming fall.
I'm at the front door. She had a gold painted doorknocker, it was right above a dirty peep hole. I felt some of the rust on the doorknocker as I used it.
"Hello? Is anyone home?" I called out. But nobody responded. I tried pushing the wooden door a little, and to my surprise it was open. It creaked and moaned as I opened it.
"Hello? Your door was open, can I come in?" I called out again. But again, no response. Nobody's responding, but I feel like someone is here. Like someone is watching me...
I walk inside, careful to where I step. The inside of her house looked comfy. There's an upstairs too, but I'll stay here for now. The kitchen's lights are on, so someone has been here recently. I keep trailing through the hall. Maybe someone's in the living room taking a nap. That would explain why they didn't hear me.
Gavi
They broke into my house, good. I left the front door open purposefully so they would walk in. They're walking slowly down the hall, but here they come. I'm in a little blind spot just beside the end of the hall. They're close... Now's my chance for the surprise attack!
Jesse
I started walking faster at the end of hall. Seems like nobody is here after all. I go towards the TV, it seems like-
"DIE!!" Woah a knife came out of nowhere! It just missed slicing my nose! It would've done some real damage if I had been walking any faster.
"God damn it! I missed!" A girl said from behind a small wall. I wanted to see who it was, but chances are she has more knives on hand. Or possibly worse! Maybe I should try talking to her.
"Hello? Why you throwing stuff?" I was nervous talking to her...I don't like dying...
"Wait, is that you?" She peaked her head out.
"Oh hi Gavi! How's it... Wait why are you throwing knifes!? I could've died!"
"It's because I thought someone was breaking in! So I had to get the first strike before they could get it on me!"
"Oh, well I-"
"And why did you break into my house!?"
"I was trying to-"
"What made you ever think it was okay to just waltz into someone's house? Huh!? Why aren't you even answering me!?"
"Because you keep talking and interrupting me when I try!" It was no use, I had to yell to get her attention. I could see a vein starting to throb in her forehead as she was yelling.
"Don't yell at me! Who do you think you are?" Oh great, I made it worse. Gavi isn't gonna stop anytime soon. I guess she'll burn herself out eventually.
"Seriously! What kind of guy yells at a girl? I mean there must be something really wrong with you if you ever, ever even get the idea of doing such a thing! Especially since you literally just broke into my house, I mean who freaking does that!?" Yup, she's still going. Not a single chance to get my two cents in.
"And another thing, I at the very least deserve a-" Her phone beeped. Luckily, it was enough to catch her attention. She took a break from ranting to check her phone. I don't what she saw but her jaw dropped and she starting getting fidgety.
"Um did you by any chance see anyone suspicious or dangerous outside?" She asked.
"Nope. I mean there was my friend, but he isn't dangerous," That's a lie. "Other than us, I didn't see anybody else."
She rolled her eyes and started typing on her phone.
"Thanks." She said. It was a very bland 'thanks' too.
"Ugh! I can't understand you!" She suddenly yelled. She went immediately back to her phone afterwards.
"What's the matter?" I asked.
"Huh? Oh, um, it's nothing. Just my...My sister texting me. Except she keeps texting in some type of code or something. It just looks like gibberish to me though,"
"I see, well I can take a look?"
"I mean I guess, here see for yourself,"
She passed me her phone with the chat. The message read, "KO, s'eh ydobon neht. Ll'I peek gnitxet ni ruo egaugnal, ko? Peek ruoy draug pu hguoht! re'yeht llits raer..."
"Ok? So what's the problem?" I don't understand why she's getting mad over this.
"What do you mean 'what's the problem,' I can't read that!"
"You can't? It's just some words, very easy to read actually."
"Uh, no. It's words in gibberish form. Like what, are you saying you can read that?"
"Um yeah? It just says 'ok, he's nobody then. I'll keep texting in our language ok? Keep your guard up, they're still near' See? Reading! Very easy to do,"
"Don't get all smug, I guess you know her little language then. How do you know it?"
"What do you mean how do I know it, I just know it. Like how you just know how to breathe."
"Ha ha, very funny. C'mon just tell me! Have you met my sister or something?"
"No, I don't think so." Did I? I'm not so sure when I think about it. "Oh wait she texted you again,"
"Well since I can't understand crap apparently, be my translation monkey." Wow she didn't even ask, she told me.
"I prefer koalas but okay. It says 'hide, they're really coming now,' and she put three exclamation points."
Her face was full of shock and worry. "Hurry! She know what she's talking about I think! We better hide!" She pushed me aside and ran up the stairs.
"Wait why are we hiding!?"
"I'll explain later, just hide!" I heard her shout back.
"Okay! I will!"
"You have a really nice shirt by the way!"
"Thank you for noticing! It means a lot to me!"
"You're welcome! Now stop distracting me, I'm trying to hide and you should be too!"
"I was until you said something!"
"Shut up already and hide!"
"Okay! Geez..."
