"I guess this is really it, huh?" Adrien said as he tried on what seemed to be the hundredth outfit that day.
"I'm proud of you kid," Plagg admitted as he zoomed around Adrien. "But are you sure you're okay?"
Wow, Adrien thought, supressing a smile. If even Plagg is asking that, I must have been really off.
"I'm okay," Adrien said, taking a deep breath.
He couldn't help but think of what had happened a mere couple of hours earlier, when Kagami put her hand on his. Adrien had nearly flinched and shrunk away, but he didn't. Instead, he found himself relaxing after the initial shock had passed.
She had asked him out, and he had said yes. They were due for a date that weekend, and Adrien was currently ripping apart his closet, looking for the perfect outfit.
"Don't you have patrol with Ladybug tonight?" Plagg asked as he zipped around the room, probably looking for more cheese.
Adrien stiffened. Patrol. He had completely forgotten. Cursing under his breath, Adrien checked the time. He was already ten minutes late. Break up or no, Ladybug would kill him if he didn't show up soon.
"Plagg, claws out," Adrien commanded, already halfway out the window.
When Chat Noir arrived on their meeting spot, their rooftop where he had shared so many dates with his Lady, Ladybug was pacing around angrily. She glared at him through her red and black mask, but her sapphire eyes held no true anger.
"Kept me waiting long enough," she said, half teasing.
Chat Noir only managed a weak smile, and her grin faltered. The air was still thick with tension, so dense he could barely breathe. Ladybug felt it too, he was certain.
Clearing throat, she took out her yo-yo. "Well," she said. "Shall we?"
As usual for the last month or so, patrol didn't take long at all. In fact, they were done within fifteen minutes. Chat Noir considered himself lucky that there were no akuma attacks that night, for he was already too distracted with his lady.
He couldn't help but glance over every minute, and remember that underneath that mask and costume, she was Marinette. His classmate of five years, one of his best friends, his roommate who lived only a hallway away.
Ladybug was a little uneasy too, he could tell. She caught him staring nearly half the time and instead of offering a teasing quip or a wry joke like she used to, she would simply give him a nervous smile.
It has to be because I went into her room those times and kissed her like that, he thought a little sadly. Chat Noir wondered what his lady thought about it, the fact that he was trying to get over her with her civillian form.
That doesn't matter anymore, Chat told himself as they returned to their rooftop. You're going on a date with Kagami. You can officially move on from Ladybug. But it was so hard to imagine even the possibility, with his lady right in front of him. Chat Noir's eyes followed her as she exhaled a tired breath, her cheeks tinged rosy as her azure eyes sparkled. His hand itched to brush a stray strand of raven hair from her face, but he stopped herself. It was too intimate of a gesture for him to do now.
Despite how quickly they had finished their patrol, night had fallen, stars winking at them from the sky like powdered diamonds in a sea of ink. Chat and Ladybug sat on the roof, the bulk of the tension having melted away. They chatted as if were old times, and nothing had changed.
"I'm a little worried, Kitty," Ladybug admitted, twirling her fingers together. "About Hawkmoth. The attacks are getting less and less frequent, and each akuma is getting easier to take down. What if he's planning something big? What if we're not ready?"
"We'll be ready, m'Lady," Chat Noir assured her. "Besides, maybe he's just getting old and tired," he grinned, trying to make her smile.
Unfortunately, it didn't work, and Ladybug's eyes skimmed the horizon anxiously as if she was bracing for a new akuma. Taking her hand, Chat smiled as he got her attention. "Don't worry about it bugaboo," he said earnestly. "We've improved over the years, and Hawkmoth isn't getting any younger. Whatever he's planning, if he's planning something, we'll be ready."
If Chat was honest, he was just as worried as Ladybug was, but he couldn't afford to show it. For as long as they've known each other, Ladybug had always been the leader and the planner, and Chat was her support. Right now, Ladybug needed her support.
Much to Chat's delight, Ladybug relaxed and a smile slipped onto her face. "You're right Chat," she said. "There's no use in worrying. We're skilled enough and we also have a whole team of superheroes to call on if we need."
"That's right," Chat said, helping her off the ledge she was perched on.
They watched the skyline of Paris together in silence, the familiarity settling over them like a warm, comforting blanket. "Hey Chat?" Ladybug murmured. "Are we still friends?"
Chat smiled and took her hand, earning a surprised glance. "Of course, m'Lady," he whispered, pressing a kiss onto the back of her hand. By just habit alone, he found himself kissing her fingertips next, and then her palm, and the inside of her wrist. Ladybug's shiver of pleasure, didn't go unnoticed by Chat, who in the heat of the moment, pulled her closer and captured her lips in his.
He could've stopped, but the fact that Ladybug didn't put up any resistance made it nearly impossible to. She sank into his embrace, her hands tangling into his hair as one of them stroked his ear. A purr rumbled in Chat's chest as he bent down lower to give some love to her neck. Any desire to stop himself left him when he heard the first of many of Ladybug's breathy gasps.
For a moment, all the heartbreak from the past two weeks had disappeared. Chat Noir was with his lady again, and she was in his arms. No matter how wrong he knew it was, it felt so right. They fit together as if they were made for each other, and they knew each other's bodies perfectly.
The moment was shattered, however, when Ladybug pulled away. She looked so beautiful at that moment, even more so than usual, and Chat's heart wrenched. Her hair was messed up and a pigtail had loosened in its tie, her lips were swollen and her eyes hooded with desire. Chat's blood sang as he thought, I did that. I made her feel like this.
"No," Ladybug breathed, so light it was nearly a whisper. But Chat heard it anyway, and suddenly, the perfect moment disintegrated right in front of him . She pulled away and the air between them had turned cold, and Chat shivered at the disappearance of her warmth.
He shuddered under the weight of his desire, his hands shaking to touch her, to melt in her embrance once more. But he stopped himself. Chat could see her longing as well, how her lips trembled.
"We broke up for a reason," she whispered, her voice breaking. "We can't—we can't keep doing this. We have to move on."
"I—" Chat's voice caught in his throat. "I understand."
The smile on her face nearly broke his heart, melancholy filling her eyes. Just looking at them, Chat felt like he could drown in their shared misery. They hugged each other one last time, understanding that both would make sure they would stop themselves before things escalated again. Chat held onto her like she was the only thing keep him alive, and she returned the gesture.
After what felt like forever but wasn't nearly long enough, Ladybug stepped out of the embrace, heartbreak etched on every inch of her face. She took her yo-yo and swung it, whispering a goodbye for the night. "Goodnight, Kitty," she breathed, before taking off into the darkness.
Chat stood on the roof, cold and alone. "Good night, bugaboo," he whispered, but there was no one there to hear it.

I'm starting school next week even though cases of the virus have been going up like crazy ._.
QOTD: which character do you hate/dislike the most in Miraculous? (You can't say Lila. If you like Lila I don't trust you XD
I actually really hated Kagami when I first met her but after Ikari Gozen, she's alright. I still don't like her but I can sympathize with her. Chloe seems like a pretty cliché answer but everyone else is so sweet I guess I'll have to go with Chloe. :P
See you Wednesday! :) <3
