Surprise Roommates
I have no clue what I'm doing, so here's my best shot XD. This is an au where not all the characters' families live in Paris, so just keep that in mind. Everything else is about the same tho
Enjoy!

Marinette Dupain-Cheng had never felt more tired in her life, and that statement in itself was impressive. She raced down the streets of Paris as her heart thumped wildly in her chest. Her legs were sore and heavy as if bricks had replaced her feet. Nevertheless, Marinette forced herself to keep running until a girl with wavy, red-brown hair came into view.
"Girl, I thought you said that you'd try not to be late anymore!" Alya Césaire put her hands on waist, a disapproving frown on her lips.
"Sorry," Marinette gasped as she bent down, trying to catch her breath. "I'm going to try harder, I promise." There had been an akuma attack right as Marinette was leaving home, and the resulting battle had forced Alya to wait on her for an hour. Of course, Marinette couldn't tell Alya that she was secretly the superhero in red and black, half of the duo that protected Paris, so she could only come up with more excuses and pray that Alya believed her.
Luckily, Marinette was blessed with the best friend in the entire world. Alya sighed, the corner of her lips lifting into a small smile as she helped Marinette stand up straight. "I'm not mad, girl," she said. "But do try to be on time. You're an hour late, and we haven't even moved in. School starts tomorrow!"
"Sorry! Sorry!" Marinette squeaked, realizing just how little time she had left her and Alya to move in. The sun was already starting to set, streaking the sky in amber and gold along with hints of rose-pink and violet-blue.
"Let's just go!" Alya said with a chuckle, looping her arm in Marinette's as they stumbled towards their apartment, laughing about all the adventures they planned to have in the coming year.
The school that Marinette and Alya attended was a boarding school, and this year, they had managed to score a small apartment for two instead of a two-person dorm. No longer did they have to sleep in a small, stuffy room right above the school, but could reside in a spacious apartment a short walk away from campus.
"I already moved my things in," Alya said. "You were just taking so long, and you weren't answering your phone!"
Marinette winced. "Sorry."
"Don't worry about it," Alya laughed. "Just make sure that you aren't late tomorrow for class. You know, first impressions and all."
Marinette bit her lip. It wasn't like she wanted to be late, but her duty as Ladybug often caused her to be. If there was an akuma attack, there would be nothing she could do in regards to her tardiness.
Blissfully ignorant about Marinette's inner dilemma, Alya kept talking. "I'll help you unpack, don't worry. Your parents dropped off your stuff an hour ago. I can't wait to hear what you were doing to arrive so late." She gave Marinette a wink, telling her that she was only joking.
Marinette gave her an uneasy smile and subtly wiped the cold sweat on her palms onto her jeans. Having a secret life wasn't easy, especially when that life entailed her to bail on her friends and family almost every other day. Sometimes, Marinette wasn't sure if and when she would crack.
They walked into a quaint little neighbourhood with a set of apartments all neatly lined up in a row. Marinette couldn't help but smile in delight at how adorable everything was. She could already imagine all the afternoons she would spend working on her fashion designs on the little porch, and all the nights she and Alya could climb onto the roof, watching the stars.
Together, the two best friends took the elevator up to the fifth floor, the highest level. They strolled down the hallway, still arm in arm, to their apartment.
"Number 36, number 37," Marinette murmured as they walked past the doors. "Ah! Number 40!" She brandished the key, and Alya rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "You thought I lost it, didn't you?" She asked Alya, her voice full of jest.
"Can you blame me?" Alya laughed, responding in the same teasing tone. "It wouldn't be the first time you lost the key."
Marinette shrugged, a smile still dancing in her eyes as she unlocked the door. "Alright, that's fair."
The light of dusk that had filled the room in the apartment spilled into the hallway. Marinette stepped into her new home, her eyes dancing with glee. This was hers and Alya's for the entire year. It was more beautiful and spacious than she could've ever imagined.
A panel of windows had wholly replaced the wall on the other side of the room, a small breakfast table settled against it. Marinette could already imagine having breakfast while looking out and admiring the view of Paris. Looking around, she could already picture all the fantastic memories that she and Alya were about to make.
A kitchen stood to her right, quite large and spacious for an apartment. To Marinette's left were two doors facing each other, bedrooms, she assumed. The centre of the room was the living and dining room where sunlight spilled through the glass wall and gifted her the beautiful view of Paris. Behind the kitchens was another hallway, which Marinette guessed led to the bathroom.
It was perfect. Marinette couldn't stop smiling even as Alya closed the door behind them and took off her shoes. The entrance to one of the bedrooms on Marinette's left creaked open, and she jumped in alarm, nearly barreling into Alya.
Adrien Agreste stood in the doorway, his emerald-green eyes wide with surprise.
