Chapter 24. Tailspin
Stiles stumbled through the doors of the hospital with Kasey in his arms, he nearly tripped and fell flat on his face only managing to catch himself by gripping the edge of the door tightly. His breathing was erratic as his eyes frantically searched the waiting room, his father was standing there looking through the glass windows of the room in which Lydia was in. He quickly made his way towards his dad, whom upon seeing him went off the rails.
"Where the hell have you been, Stiles?! Oh god- what happened to Kasey?"
His eyes didn't leave Kasey as his father started yelling for help, she was the only thing that he was worried about. The one girl that he has spent his entire life head over heels for is laying in his arms, hurt. He wants to pay attention to his dad, but he isn't the best at multi-tasking so his mind settles on Kasey instead.
"My jeep broke down... my jeep." He exhaled as the reality of the situation finally was hitting him straight in the gut, knocking the wind fully out of him. She could die, and it would be his fault. Two nurses rushed over to Stiles and Kasey, they quickly grabbed her and laid her down on a stretcher- sliding her down the hall while yelling at doctors to meet them in the examing room.
Sheriff Stilinski continued to yell at his son, he had no idea that Stiles wasn't retaining a single word he was saying. He wasn't what Stiles was focusing on at the moment, nor would he peel his attention away from Kasey long enough to even try to focus on his dad. He has entirely too many thoughts going through his mind right now, all of which are starting to take a toll on him.
"Is she gonna be okay?" Stiles choked out, finally letting the emotions of the night pour out of him. He collapsed into his fathers chest, letting every ounce of himself unravel in the embrace of his father. He was suddenly taken back to the day his mom passed, the overwhelming feeling of a panic attack was creeping into his chest and there was nothing he could do to fight it off. He was losing her too, just like he lost his mom. He can't handle losing someone else he loves, he physically won't be able to go through it.
His dad quickly grabbed his son, holding him tightly with wide eyes. Stiles manages to keep himself together around his father, very rarely does he ever see him break like this. And right now, he is breaking. Shattering, even. He's slipping and there isn't a thing anyone can do to help him. The Sheriff can feel his own eyes pricking with tears at just the sight of his son in such a distressed state. Guilt washed over him for the amount of screaming he had done, he was just worried and he has a terrible way of expressing that. Stiles knew that though, and he wasn't upset at his dad, that's not why he's crying at all.
Crying. No, now it's sobbing. He can't stop himself as he slowly sinks towards the tiled floor of the waiting room, bringing his father down with him. He can't breathe and he's drowning in emotion and guilt. The feeling of being completely and utterly useless is wrapping itself around his airways, preventing him from sucking in the vital air his lungs need. It's all starting to fade from him now, all of the pain. He can't breathe. His eyes are watering, and he vaguely recalls something he read online about drowning and not being able to breathe. Something about it being peaceful when you finally take that last breath, letting everything work itself out...
"Stiles! Come on, you're alright. She's okay, Kasey is okay." His father's voice is moving through his ears and to his brain, at the sound of her name he sucks in a breath. The shock of his father even mentioning her, bringing him back. He can't stop sucking in breaths now, he is breathingly quickly as his father stands him up, straightening his shoulders and looking directly into his son's eyes.
Stiles blinked several times trying to clear his vision so he could see his father standing before him, "You're not gonna lose her, I promise."
✢
How long has he been sitting by her bedside, well even he doesn't know. As soon as his father calmed him down he went into the room and has been sitting with her. He was exhasuted and had just drifted off to sleep, the ironic thing was that Kasey was just starting to wake up.
She stirred slightly as her eyes slowly opened, she was confused to say the least. How did she get in the hospital? As soon as the pain registered in her mind she remembered everything. It all came crashing back into her brain, sending her heartbeat into overdrive. At the incessant and loud beeping sound, Stiles jolted awake in his chair- nearly falling out of it as well.
When Kasey and Stiles met each others gaze, time slowed. The beeping of the monitor slowed and Kasey could feel herself calming down instantly just at the mere fact that Stiles was sitting beside her. She was so angry at herself for how she left things with him at the dance, she shouldn't have walked off by herself. She should have known better than to think everything would be okay in her life for five freaking minutes.
He hesistantly grabbed her hand and held it tightly, immediatly the warmth spread from her own hand up her entire arm. Goosebumps arrived on her skin, which caused an involuntery shiver to erupt through her body. Stiles rose an eyebrow in question but chose to not say anything, he didn't want to say the wrong thing. How was he even supposed to greet her after everything that has happened between the two of them in the past twenty-four hours?
Kasey gripped his hand in hers tightly as she looked down at the bandage that covered her arm, Peter really had did a number on her. It was the worst pain she had ever expierienced in her life and she knew that it would be seered in her mind for the rest of her days. No doubt would she need to start taking sleeping pills after this incident.
"I'm sorry," Kasey mumbled quietly, letting her eyes fix on the white blanket covering her bruised up body. She was too afraid to make eye-contact with him, his eyes always affected her greatly. They could make or break her in a matter of seconds.
Stiles sighed to himself, "Don't apologize."
He was the one that should be apologizing to her, in his mind. He had been such a fool to think that she would be okay on her own when Peter was out there, waiting. He had worked so hard to get her to even go out with him, and then not even two minutes after she told him that she loved him back- she was taken by Peter and harmed greatly.
Kasey slowly looked up to meet his gaze, he was watching her with a pained expression. Just the fact the she is even in the hospital is tearing him apart on the inside, he can't help but hate himself for it. Kasey didn't deserve to be hurt like that, she didn't deserve to be put in the hospital all because he was too big of an idiot to actually stay by her side all night. Even if she said no to him, he could have still went anyway- following her into the hallway, Peter still could have shown up but at least he would still be there with her.
"I should have told you sooner... I mean, about the whole being in love with you thing... I've known for awhile.." Kasey muttered as she struggled to find the right way to word her confession. She felt guilty for not telling Stiles sooner that she loves him, maybe if she would have told him sooner, she wouldn't have had to leave and go pee at that exact moment.
Stiles shook his head from side to side, "You don't have to apologize for that."
She snorted to herself, "I don't have to apologize? I'm pretty sure the whole reason I'm laying here in this bed right now is because I didn't tell you sooner, well that and because Peter is one determined son of a bitch."
Kasey watched in confusion as Stiles winced at her words, each one sending a flash of pain through him. He wants to tell her that even if she would have told him sooner that this wouldn't have happened, but he knows that's a lie. He wants to tell her that he is the one in the wrong for not going after her. He wants to tell her that if she just would have been honest with him in the beginning, well the middle or whenever the hell it was that she realized she had feelings for him, then they would be okay right now, but that would also be a lie.
Without a second to change her mind Kasey sat up slightly, wincing as the fresh cut on her side radiated pain, and brought her face nearly centimeter's away from Stiles. His hazel eyes widened as he watched the girl he loved more than anything move closer and closer, not knowing what he should do. His heart was accerlating, and at the time being he was more than grateful that he wasnt the one hooked up to the heart moniter, because it would be beeping out of control. His thoughts clouded over with images of Kasey's lips on his, and suddenly that's all he could think about. Kissing Kasey.
He quickly brought his lips to her's, not giving her any time to rethink what she was about to do. As soon as they touched, he felt a firework display set off in his stomach. It was practically the fourth of July inside of him and he couldn't have felt any happier. His hand that wasn't holding her's, gently cupped her cheek as he unwraveled himself in her. Kasey felt as if she was floating, the kiss was utter perfection. Never has she ever felt this euphoric sensation before, it has to be Stiles.
After several moments of heated touches and soft lustfull moans, Stiles pulled back reluctantly to gage in Kasey's reaction. He felt as if she were enjoying herself, but he wasn't sure. He needed to know that she felt just as perfect kissing him as he does kissing her. If not, then it would not only hurt his ego, but it would shatter whatever remnants of his heart are left. He can't not have Kasey in the way he wants, he physically won't be able to function not being able to kiss her like that for the rest of his life.
Kasey was slightly out of breath as she stared at Stiles with wide eyes, her cheeks flushing red and her pupils dilated slightly. Why did he stop kissing her like that? She was running several different scenarios of what could have possibly gone wrong. Was she not kissing him correctly? Did he not feel the sensations that she did? Was he not as into her as he had thought? Just when these thoughts were starting to tear down Kasey's walls, Stiles said the words that built them right back up.
"I really hope that kiss felt as perfect for you as it did for me," He breathed out as his thumb gently rubbed at the skin under her eyes. The skin that was slightly shaded purple from her lack of sleep the past few days, because her nightmares had been chasing her into reality.
She nodded, "It did."
Stiles cracked a smile and let out a breath of relief, "I don't care if you aren't ready to hear this, but I need to say it now because if I don't then I know I won't ever say it. I'm freaking in love with you, Kasey, and I have been since the sixth grade. You're my best friend's twin sister, which is why I never said anything because for the longest time I thought it was weird that I liked you. Then High School rolled around and you started getting all of this attention from other guys and it was starting to drive me insane, because they didn't love you. Not like I do, but I never thought you would go for me because I'm just your brothers skinny, pale, and socially awkward best friend. But I can promise you, that I won't ever let anything like this happen to you, ever again. I would rather end up here, in the hospital myself, than to let you get hurt like this again. And I don't care if this sounds stupid to you, because I'm sick and tired of holding this all in. I am in so in love with you it isn't healthy."
Kasey wasn't exactly speechless, because she had so many things that she wanted to say back to him. She had thought of things that say to him for months, things that would hopefully help him understand just how much she cared about him, and now- it's all just gone. She can't speak because she is entirely too busy watching Stiles. His chest heaving up and down from his rant, his face flushing red and his eyes wide and glassy. Anyone could tell that every single word that just tumbled from his mouth was true, and Kasey couldn't be happier. That's all she felt right now, was happiness.
"I love you, just as much if not more. And I'm sorry it took me so long to be able to say it."
