Chapter Eleven
Chapter Eleven
I hid behind a pillar in the parking lot. Right now, it was late at night and I was helping Derek trying to "train" Scott. Derek's hiding somewhere in the parking lot and he told me stay here. I could see Scott in view holding shopping bags in his hands as he tried to find his car. I made sure that I was hidden in the shadows so that he doesn't see me.
Scott drops his bag and pulls out his car keys, trying to unlock his car so he knows where his car is. How does he forget which floor he parked his car? I shake my head, trying to hide my smile. I watched as the bottle of milk rolled under the car and he muttered out a "crap". Before he could go rescue it, he watches as the bottle of milk rolls back. But this time, the bottle of milk as claw marks through.
I rolled my eyes. Okay, so, this is Derek's plan. He wants Scott to believe he's being chased by the Alpha, and to see how far he could go. But realistically, it's just Derek messing with him. Derek lets out a low growl, causing Scott to sprint away, ditching his shopping bags.
I'm impressed. Scott's actually pretty fast. I dash behind the pillars, trying to keep up with Scott but also tried to stay hidden. Derek was right behind Scott, on hands and knees, sprinting after Scott. Scott then quickly tucked behind a car and I could hear his heart rate speeding. Scott then jumps up and leaps on the cars, sending their car alarms off.
I come out from the shadows, walking over to Derek. I give him a look, telling him I'm impressed. But, as always, Derek's facial expression stays the same. I then sign language him; "what's next?". Yes, I know sign language. For whatever reason, Laura forced Derek and I to learn sign language. She didn't tell us why and she never got the chance to.
Derek didn't get to reply back when Scott's phone went off. I rolled my eyes, already knowing that it was Allison who was calling him. Derek runs off the other level where Scott was and I followed him. I watched as Derek stood on top of a car and grabbed Scott from behind. Scott was thrown onto the car bonnet as Derek stands over him.
"You're dead."
Derek then jumped off, walking towards me. Scott's eyes widened and I could sense he was confused. Scott hops off the bonnet of the car and runs after Derek. "What the hell was that?!" Scott yelled, his eyes still wide as he threw his arms around, looking between Derek and I.
"I said I was going to teach you, I didn't say when." Derek told him as we began to walk back slowly towards Scott's car.
"You scared the crap out of me!"
"Not yet," Derek spoke wryly.
"Okay, but I was fast, right?" Scott speaks defensively, looking between the two of us.
I shrugged. "I'd say you were pretty fast—"
"Not fast enough," Derek cuts me off and I shake my head.
"Not fast enough," I repeated and Scott gave me a look.
Scott scoffs. "But— But the car thing, that was smart, right?"
"Til your phone rang..." I gave Scott a look this time.
"Yeah, but, I mean—" Scott stammers over his words. "Would you just stop? Please?!" Derek then stops as Scott had stopped. We both turned to Scott. "Faya, tell him to stop!"
"Derek, stop." I replied dryly, however, Derek being Derek doesn't listen to me.
Scott sighed. "What happened the other night— Stiles' Dad getting hurt— that was my fault. I should have been there to do something. I need you to teach me how to control this."
"Look," Derek speaks harshly. "Faya and I are what we are because of birth. You were bitten. Teaching someone who was bitten takes time. I don't even know if I can teach you."
"What do I have to do?"
"You have to get rid of distractions," Derek continued. Derek then grabbed Scott's phone out of his pocket. "You see this? This is why I caught you. You want me to teach you? Get rid of her."
Scott scoffed. "What, just because of her family?" His eyes widen when Derek throws Scott's phone at the wall. "What— What?!"
"You getting angry?" Scott doesn't reply and just glares at us. "That's your first lesson. You want to learn how to control this. How to shift— you do it through anger, by tapping into a primal animal rage, and you can't do that with her around."
"I can get angry," Scott spoke defensively, glaring at Derek.
"Not angry enough." Derek fires back. "This is the only way that I can teach you." He sighs. "Now, can you stay away from her? At least after the full moon?"
Scott nods. "If that's what I have to do."
"Do you want to live?" Derek speaks firmly, eyeing Scott. "Do you want to protect your friends? Yes or no?"
"Yes. If you can teach me, I can stay away from her."
--
It was the next day at school. I walked by myself to class. I entered class, greeting Stiles as he sat gloomily in his chair.
"What crawled up your ass and died?" I questioned, sitting next to him. He simply glared at me. "Oh... You're still mad at Scott let your father get hurt. Got it. But what does this have to do with me?"
"I'm just not in the mood to talk to anyone," Stiles defended himself, staring ahead.
"Stiles not talking?" I cocked my head. "That's a new one. Are you sure you're feeling okay, Stilinski?" I went to check his forehead but he quickly slapped my hand away. "Okay! Jeez! I get the hint."
I back off from Stiles. He actually looked mad. I've never seen Stiles in such an angry mood before. He's only personality trait is being sarcastic or annoying. He then clenched his jaw as soon as Scott walked in and sat in front of him.
Scott turned around to Stiles. "Still not talking to me?" Stiles doesn't respond. Scott sighs. "Okay. What if I told you I'm trying to figure this whole thing out, and that I went to Derek for help?"
Stiles looked like he wanted to explode. "If I was talking to you, I'd say that you're an idiot for trusting him." He sternly said to Scott then looked off to the side. "But, I'm not talking to you, so..." Scott nods, glancing over at me for a second, his eyes asking for help. Stiles then sighed loudly. "Okay. What did he say?"
--
"Wh—? He wants you to tap into your animal side and get angry?" Stiles almost exclaimed as we walked down the hallways after class as Scott had just explained to him what had happened to him last night.
Scott nods. "Yeah..."
"All right," Stiles sarcastically speaks. "Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but every time you do that, you try to kill someone, that someone's usually me."
Scott sighed. "I know. That's what he means when he says he doesn't know if he could teach me. I need to be able to control it."
"That's the title of your sex tape." I finally pipe in.
Stiles gave me a look. "I forgot you existed for a second. But then your annoying little voice accrued—"
"You're so funny," I mocked back.
"Guys! Help me!" Scott glared at both of us. "What am I supposed to do?"
"Listen to Derek," I advised him.
"Don't listen to Faya," Stiles shakes his head and I glare at him. "Okay, Scott, how's going to teach you to do that?"
"I don't know..." Scott admits. "I don't think he does, either..."
"Okay. When are you seeing him again?"
"He told me not to talk about it." Scott continued. "Just act normal and get through the day."
"When?" Stiles stops Scott in the hallway, making me crash into Scott. Into his back. I muffled out some swear words and sidestepped away from Scott.
"He's picking me up at the clinic after work," Scott explained to him.
Stiles nods thoughtfully. "After work. All right. Well, that gives me the end of the school day, then..."
"To do what?"
"To teach you myself."
--
"The what of who?" It was currently lunchtime. I was sitting with Allison and Lydia. We sit in the cafeteria. I gaze over at Scott and Stiles who sit a few seats away from us. Scott had a book right in front of his face, trying to hide the fact that they were both watching us, making me roll my eyes.
"The Beast of Gevaudan. Listen—" Allison was explaining about something that Kate told her to search up. I mentally groan at this. Of course, Kate's secretly plotting things into Allison's head. "A quadruped wolf-like monster, prowling the Auvergne and south Dordogne areas of France during the year 1764 to 1767. La Bete killed over a hundred people, becoming so infamous that King Louis XXV sent one of his best hunters to try and kill it."
"Boring." Lydia comments, picking at her nails.
"Even the Church eventually declared the monster of a messenger of Satan..."
"Still boring."
"Cryptozoologists believe it may have been a subspecies of hoofed predator, possibly a mesonychid." Allison continued and my heart is hammering at each word she's saying. If she keeps this up, she's eventually going to figure out that supernatural is real. Then, she'll be killing everyone and anything supernatural.
Lydia rolled her eyes. Well, at least Lydia isn't buying this. "Slipping into a coma... Bored."
"Anything of this have to do with your family?" I then asked, getting antsy. I started to bounce my leg up and down as I sat across from Allison.
Allison smiled at me widely and leant forward. "This. It is believed that La Bête was finally trapped and killed by a renowned hunter who claimed his wife and four children were the first to fall prey to the creature. His name is Argent."
I almost went rigid. But, Lydia seemed unimpressed. "Your ancestors killed a big wolf. So what?"
"Not just a big wolf." Allison shakes her head, holding the book in her hand firmly. "Take a look at this picture." She flipped over the book, showing it to Lydia and I. An Alpha like shape. Lydia looked like she'd seen a ghost. "Lydia?" She doesn't respond. "Lydia?"
She snapped out her daze and clenched her jaw. "It looks... Like a big... Wolf." She then got out of seat, grabbing her things. "See you guys in history," and she walked off.
"That was weird," Allison mumbled and went back to reading her book while I tuned in on Scott and Stiles' conversation.
"I think the book's making it worse obvious." Stiles rolled his eyes at his best friend who still hides behind the book. "Besides, she's reading, anyway." He makes eye contact with me and mutters; "hello, Faya,"
I smirked, waving sarcastically. I glanced at Allison who, indeed, had her nose in her book. She takes a bite of her carrot.
"So, did you think of anything yet?" Scott looked at Stiles.
Stiles nods. "I think so."
"Does that mean don't hate me now?"
"No," Stiles replied. "But, your crap has infiltrated my life, so now I have to do something about it. Plus, I'm definitely a better Yoda than Derek." I rolled my eyes. "Don't roll your eyes at me, Faya."
Scott nods. "Okay. Yeah, you can teach me."
"Yeah, I'll be your Yoda," Stiles smirks.
Scott nods, seeming distracted. "Yeah, you be my Yoda."
Stiles then went to immediate Yoda. "Your Yoda I will be." Stiles chuckles, like he's proud of him. "I said it backwards..." Scott glared at him. "Faya, meet us on the field right now."
I then got up, almost forgetting that Allison was with me. "Faya? Where are you going?" My eyes widen.
"Oh... I'm just going to the bathroom. I'll be back soon." Allison nods and I could feel her eyes watching me as I exit the cafeteria doors.
