Chapter two: Arrival of the Princesses
AN: I DON'T OWN THE PICTURE I USED ABOVE!
Princess Twilight Sparkle burst through the double doors of the room she was to be meeting the others. She looked around the room, nearly out of breath as she took in the sight of the other Princesses and her brother Shining Armor, standing around a circular table. All of them engaged in what seemed to be a very interesting subject.
"So sorry I'm late everypony!" Twilight apologized, using her magic to close the doors behind her. "I came as quickly as I could."
Twilight Sparkle walked over to the space between Princess Celestia and Princess Cadence. She then used her magic to adjust her crown on her head, which had previously been askew. Her crown was engulfed in a magenta colored magical aura as she centered it appropriately on her head.
"It's alright, Twilight." Cadence assured her sister in law. "Shining Armor and I called the three of you here on an important matter. I apologize that I didn't go into very much detail in my letter, but I figured it would be best for us to explain the majority of the situation in person. As you know, we fear King Sombra has escaped from the depths of the Frozen North."
The three Princesses nodded. They were all worried for the sake of Equestria and its citizens. But they were also curious to know just how Cadence and Shining Armor had found out about the return of King Sombra.
"How did you find out about King Sombra's return?" Celestia asked.
"During a scouting mission two of my top guards noticed a large chasm in the depths of the ice outside the Crystal Empire. Lining the walls of the chasm was a type of black substance that I'm positive had magical properties." Shining Armor answered.
"Last we saw King Sombra the Crystal Heart had banished him to the Frozen North." Luna brought up.
"Yes, but we think that over time he had gained enough strength to free himself from the ice." Shining Armor reasoned.
"Is there evidence of anything else that could be threating Equestria?" Luna questioned.
"Nothing as of yet." Cadence answered. "However, if there is anything else we will send you word of it."
"I understand the Crystal Heart doesn't have the power to kill anypony, but how in Equestria did King Sombra escape?" Twilight questioned.
"That we don't know." Cadence replied. "Though, I wish we did. Perhaps if we knew we could prevent something like this from happening again as well as find out how to banish King Sombra once and for all."
"If the Elements of Harmony weren't in the Tree of Harmony I would suggest we use them." Twilight stated.
"I think I may know of another means we could use to rid Equestria of King Sombra." Celestia declared.
"You do?" Said Twilight in a surprised tone.
"Yes, it is a very old magic. One that is legendary and almost unheard of." Celestia elaborated. "Even Luna and I's knowledge is limited."
"They are called the Elements of Wilderness." Luna announced.
"Like the Elements of Harmony?" Shining Armor wondered aloud.
"In some ways, yes. In others, no." Luna continued. "They are extremely powerful when used together. When used they're used together they are strongest due to many factors. One of those factors being that they almost resemble friendship, since friendship requires many different ponies working in harmony. But unlike the Elements of Harmony they can be used separately."
"The Elements are fire, water, earth, nature, air, and ice. Instead of embodying the elements of friendship, these Elements take after the wilderness of Equestria." Celestia added.
"So there are other elements?" Twilight speculated.
"Yes, and just like the Elements of Harmony, they require bearers." Celestia explained. "The possible bearers however, are unknown to even the two of us."
"I think I just might know somepony who could be a possible bearer." Twilight spoke up.
"What is the element they represent?"
"The ice element. I've known her for some time now and she's very talented with magic, but ice and snow are definitely her specialty."
Princess Celestia thought for a few moments before she spoke again.
"She could possibly be the bearer." Celestia finally replied, still deep in thought. "Keep a close eye on her. I want to see if she could in fact be the leading element. Remember that she may know of others. But don't give her any reason to suspect anything out of the ordinary."
"And if she is in fact the bearer of the ice element and the leader of the Elements of Wilderness, you must allow her to realize her leadership qualities as well as letting her become a leader herself." Luna informed.
"We'll look for bearers here in the Empire as well." Shining Armor stated. "We'll notify the three of you if we find anything."
"Good. The more we know about possible bearers for these elements, the better chance we will have of finding who will turn out to be the bearers." Celestia returned.
"And the better chance we will have of defeating King Sombra." Cadence added with a nod.
"Exactly." Luna agreed.
"Good luck Twilight." Said Cadence, turning to Twilight Sparkle.
"Good luck to you too." Twilight paused before she continued. "Good luck to all of us."
..........
Twilight Sparkle strolled slowly through the streets of Ponyville as she made her way back to her castle. The glorious castle sparkled and shined in the distance, all while she grew nearer. But Twilight wasn't focused on what was ahead of her. Instead the lavender alicorn was deep in thought. Sombra's possible return had worried her and she wished there was a more immediate solution to the problem. She sighed as she started to work out what she could say to Winter Frost that wouldn't make it obvious that she was fishing around for information.
She agreed with Princess Celestia that she shouldn't tell her that she could possibly be the leader and ice element of the Elements of Wilderness. Winter most likely didn't even know about the Elements of Wilderness, and suddenly hearing about it including everything else would probably freak her out! After hearing about the possible return of King Sombra, Twilight was eager to tell her friends, hear what they had to say about it, and have some time to relax. Besides, no matter how much she thought, she couldn't figure out what to say to Winter. And that's when Twilight saw it.
There was a shadow cast on the ground that looked strikingly familiar. She looked around, but didn't see the mare she thought it belonged to. Then out of the corner of her eye she saw a light blue blur rush past her. Twilight whipped her head around.
'Is that her?' Twilight thought, still looking around for the mare.
After a few moments of confusion Twilight heard the flapping of wings and looked up to see the mare she had been looking for, flying over to a cloud where another mare with a purple gray colored coat also sat.
"Winter Frost?" Twilight called to the ponies sharing the cloud.
The light blue pony's head appeared and she hung her hooves over the edge of the cloud. Her white mane was braided and her bangs were slightly untidy, yet pretty as usual. She peered down at Twilight, her midnight blue eyes watching curiously.
"Um... hi Princess Twilight Sparkle." She greeted. "Can I help you?"
"Yes, I was wondering if I could ask you something."
"Uh... sure." Winter returned, fluttering down from the cloud.
Winter Frost released the snowflake she had been creating from her magic's hold, and her horn lost the medium blue aura that had surrounded it a moment ago, before touching down on the ground in front of Twilight Sparkle.
(AN: Yes, Winter Frost is an alicorn, but don't judge! She's not a Mary Sue! I understand that Equestria doesn't exactly have a high population of alicorns, but this is my only OC that is an alicorn. Please don't stop reading if you don't like the idea of an alicorn OC.)
"How have you been?" Twilight asked kindly.
"Pretty well." Winter paused. "How have you been, Princess?"
"Busy as usual." Twilight beamed. "Also you don't have to call me Princess. We're friends, just Twilight will do."
Winter Frost had always been very formal with Twilight, despite her constant reminders that there was no need for such formalities with her. Twilight wasn't sure if it was because of Winter's past or the fact that she was a little shy, but no matter how much Twilight assured her of her friendship Winter always seemed a bit distant. Then again, nopony could ever be as shy as Fluttershy.
"So, it's been a while since we last talked and I was just wondering if you wanted to have lunch together today." Twilight offered.
Winter Frost was taken aback. Twilight Sparkle had always been so nice to her but the idea of having lunch with a Princess was crazy! But what was she to do? She had never been invited to lunch by anypony except maybe her best friend, who was currently waiting on the cloud above her.
"Uh..."
Winter looked to her friend above her for support. The purple gray pegasus nodded, indicating that she should accept the invitation.
"Yes. I would like that." Winter answered.
"Great. Meet me at my castle around one o'clock. I'll see you then."
Twilight smiled before trotting off towards her castle. Winter Frost however, stood there an extra moment longer, slightly dazed. She shook her head to clear it, then spread her wings and flew back up to the cloud.
"So what happened?" Her best friend, Whirlwind asked.
"I think I just got asked to lunch by the Princess of friendship."
A/N: Okay, in my opinion these chapters are kind of short, so I'll work on making them a bit longer unless you think they are a good length. But other than that please let me know what you think. I never expected this many people to read my story this fast let alone like it so much! I already have thirty views! This is my first my little pony: Friendship is magic fanfiction, so I need the input. But no mean comments please. I don't mind constructive criticism though. Thank you everypony!
