Chapter eleven: Cupcakes and minor details
AN: I don't own the picture I used! See you at the end of the chapter!
EDIT (Jan 1): Sorry guys but I didn't just update when I republished this chapter! I was just fixing a few mistakes in spelling and stuff. Happy New Year everypony!
"Alright girls, now that Geode's left the castle, I can tell you all of this." Said Twilight, taking in a breath before continuing. "Geode's not the only possible bearer found today, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna informed me that they believe they've found the fire element's bearer."
Everypony drew in a breath then responded by whooping and grinning as the room filled with excitement. After Pinkie bounced around the group happily chattering about the news she returned to her throne as Twilight started up again.
"His name is Blaze, he lives in Canterlot and attended Princess Celestia's school for gifted unicorns. Princess Celestia claims his fire magic is phenomenal!"
"So, how many bearers does that leave us?" Applejack asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Just two more to go." Twilight answered with an exhausted sigh. "Now we just have to find out more about the physical elements by the time we find all our bearers."
"That shouldn't be a problem since we know they're with the Tree of Harmony." Fluttershy chirped positively, grinning.
"Those bad guys don't stand a chance!" Rainbow Dash shouted, propelling herself into the air and putting a hoof to her side as she hovered above her friends. "Hah, I wonder how Sombra is gonna feel about being beaten by a crystal pony!"
"Until we can get to that point continue to keep a look out for bearers and discoveries of anything relating to these current events. I'm sure you all are already doing so, but it's imperative-" Twilight was unable to finish her sentence however, when Rarity cut in.
"Twilight, you're worrying too much. We'll get it all under control. I promise you, it's going to work!" Rarity assured, nodding. "I'll be visiting my boutique in Canterlot soon so I'll be looking there too."
"And I'm always around Ponyville, so I can keep an eye on Winter and Whirlwind!" Pinkie said, winking and sticking her tongue out slightly to lighten the mood.
The six ponies and Spike then continued to hold a conference, discussing everything for the well-being of Equestria. Eventually the meeting was adjourned and as Twilight dismissed everypony to the dining room for lunch Pinkie Pie pulled out her party cannon, announcing that the meeting was over as she fired it. Confetti rained down, covering parts of the floor. Then Spike grumbled before - rather bitterly -saying he would have to pick it up later.
...
Meanwhile, Winter Frost and Whirlwind were inside Sugar-cube Corner at a table, each chomping on cupcakes as they talked from across the table. Winter was gingerly removing the cupcake liner from the confectionary in silence when Whirlwind spoke up.
"You're really not going to say anything? I thought you would go on and on about elements and other nonsense." Whirlwind spoke.
"Nope. At least not until I straighten it all out in my head." Winter responded, chewing a bit of her purple frosted cupcake before she continued. "I think we need to talk to that Geode colt again."
"Why? What's so special about him? Other than the fact that he's friends with the Crystal Empire's royal crystaler and Royalty." Whirlwind asked, ripping her cupcake's liner off.
"Well I think he's the earth element."
"Winter, what are you even gonna say to him? It's not like you can just trot right up and say, 'Hey, I know we just met and all but you're the bearer of the earth element for some crazy ancient artifacts that we might just have to use against Celestia-knows-what. I haven't heard anything first-hoof, but I've got some good guesses!'" The pegasus sassed, slamming her hoof on the table then stuffing most of her cupcake in her mouth.
"You might have a point, but look at his cutie mark! Besides, can't we just wing it?"
Whirlwind merely responded by shoving the last bit of her cupcake in her mouth before using her air magic to surround her cupcake liner in a pocket of air as she walked over to a garbage can to dump it. After getting rid of the trash she turned around only to find herself colliding with something. Squeezing her eyes shut upon impact, Whirlwind felt a warmth under her face that was buried in what she had just made contact with. She took a step back to find herself staring at the gray chest of a colt. Make that a sparkling gray chest.
"I'm sorry! Oh for Celestia's sake, I've gotta stop meeting ponies like this!" A light, somewhat bouncy voice apologized.
"Geode?" Whirlwind said quietly.
"Yep, it's me!" He smiled, "Oh, erm you've got some frosting on your muzzle."
"Huh?" Whirlwind mumbled, going cross eyed to discover that she did indeed have a glob of pink frosting on her muzzle.
After hastily wiping away frosting, the blushing purple-gray pegasus then walked with Geode over to where Winter was still sitting on a stool. Upon seeing the pair, she greeted Geode somewhat shyly, refusing to make direct eye contact. For a little while they all talked in a friendly sort of way, Winter starting to warm up again to him the longer the three talked. Geode explained how it went with getting the book from Princess Twilight Sparkle, and told them about how he would be staying in Ponyville for a few days since Sunburst said he didn't need the book right away. It wasn't long before they started getting to know one another and started talking about their passions and special talents.
"My talent lies in ice and snow magic." Said Winter with a smile. "Even before my cutie mark I loved this type of magic the best!"
"I can manipulate air." Whirlwind stated nonchalantly, shrugging.
"So, like with your wings?" Geode asked, titling his head to the side slightly.
"Yeah, but in general too."
"So you can do magic without a horn?"
"Er..." Whirlwind trailed off, looking a bit uncomfortable then said. "Well yeah, basically."
"No way, me too!" Geode responded excitedly, flashing a wide grin. "Well uh, with my magic that is."
"What is your magic?" Winter asked eagerly, trying to hide her wild curiosity as she leaned forward.
"It's something known as earth magic. I can grow crystals, bend them with my magic, and some other stuff too. I could show you outside if you want!" Said Geode, his grin widening as he stood up from the stool he had be seated on up until then.
Winter and Whirlwind then looked to each other. Winter wore an excited grin while a look of concern was plastered on Whirlwind's face. Winter nodded at her friend, to which Whirlwind responded with a violent shake of her head. However, the light blue alicorn had decided right then was the best time to mention what she had been meaning to say.
Winter took a deep breath, "Geode, this is gonna sound crazy, but you're the earth element!"
Geode took a step back as his mouth dropped open and he shifted uncomfortably. He mumbled "Um" slowly a few times before he looked around the room, before he asked what she meant. With a look toward Whirlwind, Winter told Geode she would explain everything in just a moment, saying they needed a spot away from anypony else so nopony would hear. After some reassurance from both mares, the colt hesitantly agreed and they stepped outside Sugar-cube Corner before making their way to Ponyville's park. Once the three found a secluded spot, Winter and Whirlwind took turns explaining.
They explained the small portion Winter had read about the elements, Twilight's notes left in her books Winter borrowed, and all the important information they learned about cutie marks. They told him his special talent for earth magic made them - well mostly Winter - certain he was the mentioned element. Though Whirlwind didn't admit it, both she and Winter knew the more they talked about the elements, the more she started to believe it was all real. Whirlwind may have been too prideful to admit such 'nonsense' actually added up, but Winter knew her best friend.
"So, I'd understand if you're a bit nervous seeing as we don't know what we have to do. I mean, it's a lot to take in." Said Winter Frost.
"Are you kidding? I can't wait to see what this is!" Geode exclaimed. "Yeah, we may not know what exactly is going on, but I love the unknown!"
"You're not doubting this either?" Whirlwind asked, her mouth slightly agape at his reaction.
"No way! Not after all you told me. Besides, an adventure is sure to be right around the corner!"
"Anyway, Winter says there's supposed to be three more with some sort of 'element' that goes with our magic and such."
"So, these 'elements', where are they? You said they're actual, physical objects?"
Winter nodded, "Yeah, but the thing is I don't know their location."
"Minor details."
...
In the streets of Canterlot, a unicorn colt trotted along, staring down at a letter as he went. The scroll was held aloft in front of him, enveloped in a red-orange aura as he read it over and over, in disbelief of what he was reading as if he feared the ink on it may vanish if he looked away. Written in very neat writing was a very formal sounding letter:
Dear Blaze,
Your fire magic has certainly been improving recently from what I have been hearing. I am so proud to hear my former student is doing well with his studies. I realize this is out of the blue, but another former student of mine and fellow Princess, Twilight Sparkle is currently interested in learning about talents like yours and how they relate to your cutie marks. While it is for her own independent studying purposes, I was hoping you might consider going to Ponyville and answering a few of her questions. She says she will happily answer any of your own questions that you may have on magic or even her study. The opportunity is yours to take or decline, but if you are willing to oblige I have enclosed a round trip train ticket that leaves for Ponyville tomorrow afternoon.
Hoping you are well, Princess Celestia
The red colored colt finally rolled up the letter and stuffed it in his orange saddle bags, clasping the white strap with his magic as he continued to walk. Then a toothy grin spread across his face, stretching so much it almost made his cheeks hurt. He barreled down the street, causing some of the 'higher class' ponies to turn up their noses and let out murmurs of disgust. But he didn't care. All he could think of was getting to his best friend to tell him the news.
AN: Another chapter! I apologize if there's some weird letters and stuff. Copying and pasting from my Word document is annoying since i's been adding some odd letters when I transfer my work. Oh well XD Hope everypony liked it! :) Votes, comments and constructive criticism are appreciated.
