The Shift

As Jonathan pressed the djed key into the engraving on the wall, the entire group held their breath. A click was heard, then a whirring. The wall began to slide back, revealing a dark, dimly lit corridor.

"This is it. I can see it. We have to go through," Jonathan murmured, djed key still in hand. The guards began to bang on the door, and Leonard looked back fearfully.

"Good enough for me!" he declared, and took a step in. Jonah followed, summoning a ball of light to his hand. The rest of the group stepped in as well, with Tiger, Jared, and Kamari taking up the rear.

The group walked down the dark hallway fearfully, the ones with fighting powers keeping them at the ready. They didn't encounter a single guard, which made them more suspicious.

Then, they came to a door. It was heavy, wooden, and had the djed carved into it. Jonah glanced back at Toby, who nodded once. Then he stepped forward, grabbed the handle, and pushed the door open.

Jonah's light revealed only a small study. Bookshelves lined some of the walls. On others, there were shelves, of . . . things, in jars. Photos of Egyptian sites were placed neatly on the desk. Along with another photo. A photo of Jaxon. Toby noticed and looked away. There was also one other door. A door marked with the sign for the Duat.

Nathan motioned to the various cabinets and drawers around the room, striding forward. "Look for files, audio recordings, anything that may look important. Anything that could lead us to Emily, or that could reveal the plans of the Osiris Project," he ordered.

The participants split up. Tiger, Jared, and Kamari remained at guard at the door. Veronica, Aria, Kat, and Arcadia began to browse through the bookshelves. Skylar stood by, watching them all work. The rest split up to go through the drawers.

Around fifteen minutes had passed before Westley popped up from the desk, holding a stack of files in his hands. He looked up, hands shaking, as he clutched the files so hard his knuckles turned white. "Guys, I think I found something. They have our names."

Toby and Jonah moved to take the files, but at that moment, the shadows next to the desk began to swirl and darken. They moved upwards, forming a large cloud. And out of it, shadow flowing off of their clothes, walked Emily and Jaxon.

They were both wearing some sort of black armor. Jaxon had on sunglasses as well. The thing that shocked them most was the fact that Jaxon held a sniper rifle, and was aiming it at them.

"Jaxon? Emily?" Toby asked, stepping forward. He held his hands up in a surrender, looking at them with confusion. "It's us. How are you alive, Jaxon? And Emily, how did you escape?"

Emily immediately raised a handgun when he approached, pointing it at his chest. A, along with a few others, screamed.

"Don't. Move." Emily ordered. Maya began to back up, and turned on her heel.

"Everybody, run!" she shouted. Tiger stepped in front of the door, and suddenly, a khopesh was in his hand.

"Tiger? What are you doing?" Cimber asked, clearly bewildered. The indigo-haired man swung the khopesh in his hand, forcing the group back.

"It isn't personal. I don't want to hurt you. But the power I've been given . . . the things I could do with it . . . I've been given too good of an opportunity to waste it on something as trivial as morals," Tiger growled. Kamari stepped up next to him, a smirk on her face. Jared took the other side. He reluctantly summoned electricity to his hand.

Jonathan was still holding Chaz' keys. He looked down at them. The Duat. That was the only way they could escape, from Jaxon, from Tiger, from the rest of the traitors. As Tiger continued, he slowly backed toward the door.

"Cimber, Maya, it's not too late to join the right side. Join me," Tiger demanded, chin up as he held his khopesh. Jonathan bumped into the door. He discreetly slipped the key to the Duat out of his pocket, and pressed it to the door. The door opened.

A storm of events soon followed. Everyone looked to Jonathan. Jonah filled the room with light, causing Jaxon to hiss in pain. With all of the shadows banished, Emily couldn't teleport. A shout to retreat was made. Cimber rushed toward Tiger, wind forcing the trio of traitors back. Then, things took a darker turn. The khopesh went through Cimber's chest. The blond man looked back at Camber. He shouted for her to run. Sobbing, being dragged along by Toby, Camber set up a forcefield to cover the retreat. Bullets slammed into it. Then the door to the Duat slammed shut behind them. They were down to fourteen.

The traitors won't be able to find you for awhile. Use this time to discuss, look through the files Westley snatched, and try out your new powers. You may all use them now. However, they will need practice to reach full strength. Don't try to go exploring, because I need to be there to monitor it. Also, some of your characters were injured. Westley can heal them during this time:
• Arcadia - grazed arm
• A - hit by lightning
• Nathan - shot in the leg
