The Reveal

Throughout the first half of the program, things went relatively normal. The participants went through the same routine of training, examination, and bonding. Friendships grew, as did animosity toward enemies.

However, despite how normal things seemed to everything else, Toby and Jaxon knew that something was off. They had been investigating together, writing down anything that seemed weird.

Tonight was the night that Toby revealed to the rest of the participants his theories and knowledge. They were all gathered in the Lounge, in their white pajamas, relaxing in the hour they had before curfew.

Tiger, having established himself as the leader of the group, was relaxing on the comfiest couch, next to Maya. Many of the participants were gathered around him, talking. A few of them were on the fringe, mainly the people Tiger didn't seem worthy enough. This included Toby and Jaxon, who conflicted with him many times; Skylar, who seemed to have become extremely paranoid and sleep-deprived; and Westley, Jonathan, and Leonard, for the crime of being nerds.

Despite the fracture dividing the group, Toby walked up to Tiger, and stood in front of him. Jaxon stood by his side. Tiger stood up, towering over Toby, a sneer on his face.

"What is it, shortstack?" he asked. Toby pushed a piece of paper onto his chest, and raised his voice to address the group.

"There is something weird going on with this project. There's something in our food. And it's changing us," the shorter man announced. He pointed to Maya, who frowned at him. "Like Maya. She's always shivering, what's up with that? I'm obsessed with water now, and drink it constantly".

Then he pulled Jaxon forward, and pointed to him. "And look at Jaxon! He's so pale now. He's not white, people! This isn't natural!" Jared blinked, and nodded. After all, Jaxon was his roommate. He could see the difference.

Toby continued, motioning to the different participants. "Westley's hair is going grey. Skylar's basically a paranoid conspiracy theorist. Veronica's vegetarian. Arcadia is always complaining about how loud we are now." He slammed his book of evidence down on the table, getting more heated with his announcement.

"I think they're doing stuff to us. I think they're trying to give us powers. And I think it's all based around Egyptian mythology," he declared. He opened to one of the pages, and jabbed his finger on the words. "One of our puzzles was a threatening letter, seemingly addressed to me. It called me Sobek. I believe I've figured out some of our roles, too."

He picked up the book, and started reading out of it. "I'm the Sobek. Jaxon is the Anubis. Tiger is the Horus. Jared is the Set. The list goes on and on." He looked at the rest of the participants, anger and fear in his eyes. "Whatever they're doing to us, it's having side effects. And it could get us killed."
