Old Sin's

Second Chapter of the Night as promised.

3428 words coming your way.

A Thousand Years Ago.

"I can't marry him I won't" I seethed walking up and down the riverbank as Tatia sat in the grass watching and listening to me rant.

It had been a few days since I had been told I would marry Niklaus and I wasn't taking the news well.

"Thyra Niklaus is a good man".

"A good man who is in love with my sister" I snapped glaring at her.

I saw her expression fall making me feel guilty, I walked towards and sat down beside her leaning my head on her shoulder as she played with my hair.

"I love you Tatia with all my heart, I love you more than anything in this world you are my other half and I cannot imagine my life without you, but please see my situation for what it is, I'm marring a man who is deeply in love with you. I don't want to spend my life trying to live up to you it would be impossible".

"Thyra you are strong, fierce, loyal and beautiful. Never think that you must live in my shadow when it is I who should be more like you, Niklaus will love you I know it, he would be a fool not to".

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because no matter how much you dislike it I know Niklaus and I know you little one" she whispered kissing the top of my head.

"I wish we could just runway, you and I like we planned as children, we could go explore the world" I sighed dreamily thinking of what could be.

I was pulled from my day dream about foreign lands by the change in weather, the sky suddenly turned grey and the winds began grow harsher, I looked to the left only to realise Tatia wasn't there.

The next think I knew someone grabbed my shoulders in a vice like grip, I looked in front of me to see Tatia looking at me in desperation.

"You must forgive him sister".

"What?"

"Elijah you must forgive him"

"Tatia I don't understand".

"There is no time little one just please heed my words"

The winds became serve the sky darkened and the grass beneath me turned to ash, Tatia held onto me tighter as an invisible force pulled her away.

"Tatia wait".

"I can't stay any longer I don't belong here, just find it in your heart to forgive him, and never forget I love you little one" with that said she let go.

"Tatia don't go ... Sister".

"Tatia" I shouted sitting up straight in my hotel bed breathing heavily thinking over the memory turned dream I had just had.

What my sister meant I didn't know, whether it was a real message or just a dream I didn't know either but nor did I have time to dwell on it, so I shook it off and got ready.

After I said all I needed to say to Nik yesterday I text him when I got to my hotel room and decided it would be best if he looked for Finn and me Rebekah, I needed space and to focus on something other than us, meaning finding Bekah was my number one priority.

So, I showered and put on the clothes I had compelled off a stylish guest who was staying in the next room, the girl screamed money and good taste, the items I had taken still had the tag's on them, so I drained the girl dry and went on my way.

I put on the stolen light blue boy-friend jeans which were folded up at the ends and matched it with a white cropped shirt that tied above my bellybutton showing off my tanned mid-section. I paired the outfit with a burned orange leather shoulder bag, some sunglasses, green and white leaf patterned open-toed six-inch sandals and a pair of silver hoops.

Rich Bitch had taste.

After I was dressed I started my search only to find absolutely nothing.

I went to the cauldron where all the witches were accounted for, so I decided to check the hospitals where I again came up empty.

I was just driving to my next destination when my phone rang.

"What?"

"Just checking in love".

"Well I found zilch, you?"

"Nothing" Nik sighed sounding extremely tired.

"I interrogated the witches no body jumping there, I checked the local hospital no coma patients have suddenly awoke and the nuthouse just has their normal brand of crazy, nobody shouting saying there a one-thousand-year-old vampire, I even looked to see if there were any mutes in town encase Kol was feeling creative" I explained in frustration.

"We'll find her"

"She went out on a limb Nik offering to give up her body, so we could get rid of Esther, only for her own god damn brother to decide in the middle of a family war to highjack her".

"Rebekah is resilient Thyra you know this".

"Yeah well were all resilient until we stab each other in the back".

"Thyra ..."

"Just don't call again unless you have something" I told him hanging up the phone, even the sound of his voice made me feel like a ball of mixed emotions anger and sadness being at the forefront.

I parked my car in the small hospital just across the river, I left my bag in the car locking the black range rover behind me.

The inside was sad and grey and looked like it hadn't had a facelift since the nineteen-fifties, it smelled like death and depression.

I tried my best to hide my disgust as I walked to the nurse's station where a woman who looked like she should be enjoying her retirement sat.

"Can I help you hun?" she asked with a bright wrinkled smile.

"Yes, I was wondering if ..." the before I had the chance to compel her the world turned black and I fell backward onto the stained linoleum floor.

***

I opened my eyes and looked around in confusion realising I wasn't in the dingy hospital anymore.

I was in fact in the middle of an old-fashioned wooden shed. Surrounded by the heads of various animals which were mounted on pillars near the low ceiling.

"Niklaus, Thyra?" I whipped around to see my husband and brother who also looked bewildered.

"You three!" Kol exclaims from the other side of the room.

"What is this?" Elijah questions as Kol looks around in interest.

"It's a chambre de chasse. A hunt room. It's where witches bring their prey for mental target practice. Our bodies are in the real world, lying dead on the floor, whilst our minds are in here, represented by these creepy animal heads."

"Let me take a wild guess as to who the author of this nightmare is. FINN! Show yourself!" Nik shouts.

Finn enters the room through the front door. Klaus reaches out to grab him in a choke-hold, but his hand didn't even come close to his throat"

"He created this shed and brought us here did you really think he'd allow us to kill him" I spoke rolling my eyes at my husband.

"Thyra is right. In here I am untouchable. My magic, my rules. So, make yourselves at home. We're going be here for a while" Finn smirked.

"Great, I'm stuck in a shack with two people I want to strangle, you said we couldn't hurt you what about each other?" I wondered looking at Finn who shook his head.

Nik scoffed drawing Finn's attention away from me.

"At the very least, this prison is a bit more comfortable than the box you held me in for... almost nine hundred years" Finn said glaring at his brother.

"The heads are a nice touch. Let me guess... I'm the big, bad wolf? Thyra the loyal, fierce she-wolf" Nik states pointing to the grey and snow-white wolves mounted together on one of the four pillars.

"Kol, the wiley fox. Elijah is the noble stag, and you, fittingly enough, are the boar! Bit obvious, as far as symbolism goes. Why are we here? Don't tell me... It's about Mother? I didn't force her to drink blood and betray everything she holds dear. That was her choice" Nik speaks trying to get a rise out of his oldest brother.

"This isn't about Mother, this is about you. I want you to know how it feels to be powerless! So, I'm going to take the thing that matters most to you, the city you've come to love so much" Finn spits.

"And here I thought I was Niklaus number one" I scoffed sarcastically.

"Are we quite done here? You will release us now" Elijah snaps.

"I will! After sundown. Because at sundown, when the marchers of Carillon Eve take to the streets, my barrier spell drops. Marcel and his hungry vampires will be unleashed to kill their way through the Quarter! I imagine that, after their atrocities, the supernatural community of New Orleans will be forced to find another place to call home" Finn said revealing his plan.

"Look, I don't care about the city. What I care about is that my very human body is laying at the feet of some very hungry vampires. Your fight is with them, it's not with me!" Kol tries, hoping Finn will show him mercy.

"All you care about is your own fragile mortality. But, what if you were made vulnerable? What then?" Finn flicks his wrist, and Kol's body tenses up as blood starts to run from his nose.

"Okay. Point made. Now, nobody loves a joke like old fox boy here, but if you could just get me back to my body..." Kol declares practically begging now.

"I must confess, I rather enjoy watching you twist in the wind. Not unlike the way you left Rebekah, I imagine" Elijah states pulling a handkerchief out of his pocket and handing it to Kol to wipe his bloody nose.

"Yes! What did you do to Rebekah?" Finn questions.

"For goodness sake, she crossed me, so I crossed her back! Look, if you could just get me back to my body, I will tell anybody anything that they need to know!" He shouts desperately Finn rolls his eyes and hits Kol with another pain inflicting spell, which hurts him enough to stop talking.

"How narrow-minded of me! Rebekah. You don't know where she is, and the only thing standing between you and our sister is this selfish fool. Maybe it's time for you to go enjoy the rest of your mortal life while you still can." Finn then makes a fist with his hand, which sends Kol back into his body taking the rest of us by surprise.

"So, what shall we talk about while we wait for nightfall? Oh! I know! Let's talk about our parents" Finn exclaims mockingly.

"Mikael and Esther are the last people I want to have a conversation about" I spat.

"You have so much anger towards our parents Thyra" Finn replied stating the obvious.

"Well your father tried to kill me numerous times and almost succeeded when he kidnapped me just a few weeks ago, and your mother well the list is endless with that bitch, taking my mortality, and killing my sister and that's just the beginning" I snapped, as Elijah flinched making me look at him strangely.

"Ah sweet Tatia" Finn reminisced, I was getting angry now how dare she speak of her.

"Enough!" Elijah shouted.

Maybe it was just my imagination but suddenly Elijah looked deathly pale and really nervous.

"You know, I figured you wouldn't be kind to Mother, but imagine my surprise to learn that Mikael met the same fate! Bravo, brother" Nik exclaimed bringing the focus away from my dead sister.

Last night's dream was still fresh in my mind therefore Tatia was a sore spot right now.

"You see, the parent I was interested in talking about was your father. Your real one? I mean, you longed to know him your whole life, yet at the first opportunity, you murdered him! Why, I wonder?" Finn asked.

"Possibly the same reason you took out Esther. Severing parental ties has a way of freeing one up to recognize one's true potential" Nik shrugged.

"Quite but, Esther was no fool. She pinpointed your wants, and knowing your true father was at the top of the list! No, something else occupies the top of your list of affections. And it's not your favourite city, because I'm about to take that from you, using your own vampires, and I barely get a rise out of you! I thought maybe it was Rebekah, but you remain calm, even when the one who knows her fate probably just met his"

"I am fighting the monumental urge to mount your severed head upon one of these walls" Elijah huffed trying to end this conversation.

One wrong word from any of us, and Finn like a bloodhound would sniff out our secret and over my dead desiccated body would I let Finn hurt Eden.

Finn ignores Elijah continuing his interrogation.

"And then, I thought it was your favourite brother, but Mother broke him into a thousand pieces, and rather than fix him, you left him to fend for himself God knows where. Finally, I thought it was your loyal ever-loving wife, but you also left her to drown in a sea of grief and anger while you pranced around with Cami. You know, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were hiding something from me. Something big. Something dark. Maybe your real father found out what it was, and you had to kill him" My dead heart jumped Finn not knowing had just hit the nail on the head.

I prayed to whoever was listening that my face or body language didn't give anything away.

"You want to know why I killed my father?" Niklaus furiously challenged.

"Yeah!"

"Because when blood relations let me down, I don't stop to reason with them, I remove them" Nik spat.

"So, the secret is there is no secret? You long for nothing, care for no one? The problem is, brother, I don't believe you. It's clear to me that you're hiding something. And, as I control your presence here, we've got all the time in the world to figure out just what that might be" Finn grin's.

"It's a shame, really, for you to lose New Orleans. You've worked so hard to make this city a home. On the other hand, this city hasn't given you much in the way of good fortune. You have Marcel's betrayal, Father's attack, the loss of your child...".

"Don't speak of her" I hiss ready to kill the man I once called brother.

Elijah and Nik looked at me worriedly.

"Little one calm yourself" Elijah whispers trying to soothe me.

"Little one, isn't that what Tatia used to call you" Finn states.

"Shut your mouth Finn".

He was really getting under my skin now.

"You know Thyra I always admired you, for a millennium you have been loyal, loving and trusting of my brothers yet they have done nothing but hurt you".

"Stop!" I demanded, but he didn't listen.

"Kol your best friend betraying you over and over. Niklaus, well we've all lost count of how many time, he has broken your heart, and lastly Elijah, who has hurt you more than you will ever know" Finn explained baffling me, Kol and Nik had hurt me yes, but Elijah never.

"What on earth are you talking about?"

"Nonsense as usual angel" Nik snapped.

"Elijah?" I quizzed, but he wouldn't even look at me.

"Nik?" I tried.

"He's trying to bait us" Nik replied.

"I speak the truth" Finn insisted.

"What truth" I demanded.

"Finn don't, you don't know what this will do!" Elijah begged his brother as Nik and I looked on bemused.

What were they talking about?

"Thyra for a thousand years you have blamed our mother for a crime she didn't commit. You see it wasn't Esther who killed Tatia ... in fact it was the noble Elijah" Finn confessed.

My stomach dropped as I tried to make sense of what had just been said, it wasn't true it couldn't be could it? Elijah my brother, my confidant he couldn't have killed Tatia he loved her.

"Lies" I hissed.

"It's not true, tell me he's lying Elijah!" I whispered desperately facing my noble brother as Finn and Nik looked on in silence.

"I am so sorry little one I ..."

"No!" I cried feeling tears running down my cheeks.

It was true, how could it be true!

I shook my head as a painful cry broke through the air, my cry. This was worse than a stake to the heart, worse than any pain Nik or Kol had ever caused me, this was the ultimate betrayal, I couldn't handle this it was too much to comprehend.

"Please Elijah, you didn't" I murmured through sobs.

"I, like a coward, allowed Mother to erase from my memory. It was I who killed Tatia. I hunted her down, and mercilessly, I feasted upon her flesh. I tore her from us. Esther took the blame, I loved her, and I killed her" He whisper kneeling before the chair I had collapsed into.

"We grieved together, we cried for her and all the while you were the reason for it, I lost any humanity I had left the day she died, and it was all because of you" I roared kicking him across the room.

My temper was back in full force now and I had no intentions of controlling it. The man who had held me while I cried and comforted me in my darkest times had lied to me for over a millennia.

I was about to run for him when Nik grabbed me around the middle stopping me.

"I'm sorry little one ..."

"Don't call me that don't you dare call me that" I screamed trying to break free of Nik's iron grip.

"I was going to tell you".

"You have had every opportunity to tell me yourself, but you didn't. You continued to lie to me like you have been for a thousand years, at least Finn had the decency to tell me the truth, no matter his ulterior motives behind it".

Elijah was the person whom I trusted always who I never doubted ever, was now a stranger before me, a stranger who had deceived me for my whole vampire existence.

I stopped struggling against Nik realising that Elijah wasn't really, here, no he was at the safehouse far away from New Orleans with my daughter.

Eden. I had to get to her.

"I knew that this would hurt you and destroy our relationship, so I didn't know how to tell you".

"Our relationship was ruined the day you drained my sister. It's funny how people say Nik is the monster when really, it's you. I will avenge my sister and when we get out of here I'm coming for you brother, so I'd advise you to run" I sneered.

"Why wait" Finn spoke, then before any of us could respond the illusion around me disappeared.

***

I jumped up with a fright like I had that morning.

"Good your awake" I looked to my left and saw a nurse who was looking at me in surprise.

I looked around realising I was in a hospital gown lying in a hospital bed hooked up too many machines and a drip.

I was still in this z-list hospital.

"You gave us quite a fright we couldn't find a heart-beat, but you were still breathing, yet you wouldn't wake up, we tried everything ..." the talkative nurse stopped talking and jumped up as I pulled the wires and IV drip from my body.

"You can't..."

"Listen lady, I just found out my brother killed my sister, so I have to go murder him now" I explained grabbing my clothes from the hospital bag on the locker beside my bed.

"Your obviously delusional I'll just get the doctor" she told me shuffling quickly toward the door.

Before she could leave I sped in front of her making her and glared she shook with fear slowly stepping backward.

"I'm having a really bad existence right now, sorry but this is nothing personal" I told the small nurse before snapping her neck, making her drop to the ground.

After I was dressed I strolled out of the hospital and hopped into my car speeding out of the carpark driving like a bat out of hell.

I had to get to Eden and get her away from Elijah then once she was safely away from her lying monster of an uncle I would have my revenge for me and for Tatia.
