Mother's Affection

I watched as Nik tortured the witch it was going on hour three and besides Nik ruing his outfit along with the parlour decor we were getting nowhere, so I simply rolled my eyes, sped forward and snapped her neck.

"Why on earth did you kill her" Nik shouted.

"It was obvious you weren't getting anywhere, we know Esther has Elijah where she has him is what we need to know. The only people who would know that, is Finn and maybe her guard dogs, I hardly think she'd tell a bunch of original hating witches where she's keeping him" I explained.

I waited for his comeback but was met with nothing, he knew I was right.

He sighed and stormed from the room through the double doors, into the study as I followed behind, there we were met with Arielle.

"No luck then?" she questioned.

"What do you think" I huffed pouring myself a drink from the drinks tray across the room.

"So, what now?" she asked.

"I suspected my mother had Elijah captive" Nik replied, making me roll my eyes, I told him that hours ago.

"Now all we have to do is find them" I spoke grabbing my jacket from the sofa.

"Esther is too powerful. She won't be easily found. I need to draw her out" Nik spoke shaking his head, as he walked back into the room where the dead witch was.

"Wait, where are you going?" I snap slamming my glass down on the table, striding towards him.

"I'm going to change my shirt, and then I'm going to find my brother, unless you'd like to help me clean-up" he winked making me scoff.

"I'm coming with you, to find him" I replied ignoring his innuendo.

"I know you want to help, Thyra, but you can't. You know what Esther is like. She will target you to thwart me, and I can't very well save Elijah if I'm busy saving you, can I?" he smirked.

"And who the hell said I need saving" I shouted, glaring at him.

"May I remind you that you were kidnapped by Mikael".

"Only because you didn't kill him in the first place" I remined him.

"And you also pointed out that everything that has happened to you is my fault, I wouldn't want to add anything to that list angel" he smiled falsely before leaving the room.

"Is fighting you guy's foreplay or something?" Arielle wondered.

"You could say that" I sighed sitting down, I couldn't believe I was being left behind.

"Well I hate to leave you alone but ..."

"And where the bloody hell are you going" I demanded.

"To find my alpha" I knew she was talking about Jackson the fiancée she hadn't seen in weeks.

"Only a while ago you thought he was dead" I stated, I wasn't being cruel, it was the truth.

"I got a tip that he's deep in the bayou, I'm going to find him then were going to save Oliver and break the spell Esther has on my pack" she explained.

"I was wondering why you were suddenly so happy" I smiled.

She didn't reply simply winked in my direction before leaving the room.

It had been hours since I was left to myself in the compound and I was going stir crazy, nobody was answering their phones, Nik, Marcel even Arielle.

I didn't have a clue what was going on and it was driving me mad, so instead of sitting around I decided to do something that I hadn't done since my human years, I decided to clean.

Hours later and the compound was sparkling, beds had been freshly made, wood had been polished and I had even swept the court-yard yet still no word from anyone, I had clean every room even the ones the dog's, sorry wolves were staying in.

Yet there was one room that remained untouched, Eden's. I hadn't stepped foot inside since the night we killed the Guerra wolves and even then, I had bit Elijah's head off for the nursery being unlocked.

I took a deep shuddering breath and stepped inside, it looked perfect.

Nik had repaired it after my meltdown the night Rebekah and Katherina took her away, it looked like it had when we were waiting for her to be born.

I ran my fingers over the chest of drawers, were the changing mat was placed. I had made sure this room was light and bright unlike the rest of the compound, the room was painted a light grey, with a beige carpet and grey and white pattern rug.

The furnishings were white including the crib, plush arm-chair which had replaced the old rocking chair that I hadn't been crazy about and the small tables. There were wooden blinds to block out the early morning sunlight lined with soft pink curtains, the wall above the crib was littered with a collage of picture frames with hand-made designs, while a white chandelier lit up the space.

Toy's and trinket litters the room giving it a cosy feel, all that was missing was a baby.

Nik had found my mood board design for the room when I was pregnant and compelled a designer and a few decorators to do it, surprising me one day with the finished result. It was even more beautiful than I remembered, fit for a princess Nik had said, when I started crying with happiness, I did not miss pregnancy hormones.

Now tears dripped down my cheeks, for a whole different reason as I sat down on the plush arm-chair with matching foot rest, now I was crying because, I didn't know if my Eden, would ever get to see and grow up in this room.

I pulled the pink knitted blanket that had been thrown over the back of the chair, holding it under my nose and breathing the smell of wildflowers, it was a unique smell that could only belong to my daughter.

I took off my shoes and curled up with the hypnotic smell of my daughter coming off the soft blanket letting and as I was alone I let go, the dam broke as I let everything I had be bottling up go.

"You're looking very pleased with yourself this morning" Esther noted as I helped prepare dinner for everyone.

Tonight, was a celebration, I had announced yesterday that Niklaus and I were expecting a child. Everyone was overjoyed, ever since the death of Henrik nothing could get anyone's spirts up except the news that the first Mikealson grandchild was on its way.

By Esther's calculations the mine and Nik's child would arrive in six-moons, she also had a sneaking suspicion that it was a girl. I had never seen Nik or his siblings so happy, it gave me hope that this family could recover.

Rebekah was already picking names, Finn was keeping a watchful eye on me making sure I was safe, Kol jested about how the child was lucky that it would have my genes to help in the looks department, Niklaus was even more attentive than ever, he also couldn't keep his hands off me. Meanwhile Tatia and Elijah became incredibly overprotective.

Even though it was all I bit much I was just happy that they had something new and exciting to take their minds of Henrik.

"Well I'm just so happy" I smiled my face starting to hurt from the pure joy I was feeling.

"Yes, a child is the greatest blessing ever to be bestowed upon a woman" he words were soft and kind, but her face looked sad and regretful.

"Oh, Esther I did not think. I know this must be awful timing especially with Henrik not long gone" I apologized.

"It's fine Thyra, I am fine" she tried to smile.

I ignored her words and took her hand in mine.

"You are a wonderful mother Esther; your children adore you. I am humbled to have been allowed to be part of your family" I told her.

"You are such a sweet girl, I hope you know that I have come to think of you as a daughter Thyra. I knew from the moment I saw you playing with Kol and Rebekah all those years ago, that you would be a fine addition to our family".

Her words brought tears to my eyes, the next thing I knew we were hugging, my mother never really hugged Tatia and I, it was nice to feel what a real mother's affection felt like.

"I want you to know that everything I do, I do it to protect our family remember that Thyra" she whispered in my ear before pulling away.

"Now go get ready, I'll finish the feast" I went to protest before I was interrupted.

"Your sister Tatia will be along soon so I'm sure she will help, oh and here take this mixture, drink it before dinner it will help the babe grown stronger" she told me handing me a vial with a green coloured mixture.

I didn't question her I knew Esther cared for me, so I drank the mixture and headed to mine and Nik's hut to get ready for the feast.

That was the night I was turned into a vampire, the night I lost my child, the mixture Esther had given me had been part of the spell she had cast to preserve my unborn child's life.

If only I knew that a thousand years ago.

My name being called woke me from my memory, my brown eyes fluttered open only to be met with a familiar pair of worried blue ones.

"You've been crying" Nik stated.

I sat up pulling Eden's blanket with me playing with it in my hands.

"I miss her" I whispered.

"I know, so do I angel" he told me as he kneeled in front of me.

"I just want her home with us, where she belongs".

He said nothing just pulled me into his arms hugging me tightly and even though I was still furious with him I let him hold me because he knew my pain it was his as well.

***

"What has she done to him" I was furious, as I watched the man who was a brother to me in everything but blood, sweat and writher in pain because of whatever was going on in his head.

"I don't know, I've tried everything to wake him nothing works" he sounded desperate.

Both of us had tried to get into his mind, but we had failed. I looked over Elijah's form for any indication of what might help.

It was then I noticed a rash on the side of his neck, which was in the shape of a flower, this wasn't a coincident.

"Nik" I spoke drawing his attention to the wound.

"I haven't seen this since I was a child. Mikael would return home from battle more blindly temperamental than usual, and our mother would use the petals of a rare merlock orchid to put him to sleep. She would mend his mind with a spell, and then wake him with the roots of the same plant. If she has access to it now, then maybe it also grows in the Bayou. You stay here with Arielle and the wolves and mind the fort" Nik told me.

"I am not staying here again" I glared.

"Look at what she has done to Elijah, I will not take that chance that she could do the same to you" he seethed.

"I like to see her try, I'd simply rip her head off".

"Stay clear of her. I mean it, Thyra. I couldn't stand if you were a victim to the same madness that has befallen Elijah" he spoke seriously.

"I won't go after her. I promise" I reluctantly agreed.

Nik looked at me for a moment no doubt looking for any indication that I was lying, when he was happy with what he saw he turned and left leaving me alone with Elijah.

"You know Elijah your mother may be smart, but I know how to get her where it really hurts" I smirked as a plan formed in my head.

A/N

So, it seems I have horrible luck with laptops. Two weeks ago my hard-drive just disappeared, yep just ran away!!! I of course had to replace it. It cost some money but now its fixed and I'm going to start writing again let's just hope everything goes smoothly from now on (fingers Crossed).

Anyway so what did you think of the chapter, I know it was kind of sad, let me know what you think of it in the comments.

The little flashback sort of give you an insight into how Thyra felt about Esther before everything happened, as you can see they were quite close, it also shows how happy, nice and well normal Thyra was.

What will Thyra do next?
