Chapter 9- A Waterful Day

Link and Mipha arrived at the Veiled Falls, Link stopped to enjoy the view. He loved the sound the waterfall made as the water fell and crashed against the surface. He could feel the light spray of water that the waterfall created around him and he appreciated the way the nice, cool water felt. It was around 80 degrees, and perfect swimming weather without a cloud in the sky.

"So what do you think?" Mipha questioned. She was watching Link's pleased expression and smiled.

"I can now see why it's your favorite swimming spot," Link replied.

"Well what are you waiting for?" Mipha grinned. She leaned her trident against a tree nearby and took a running start to the water. She flipped twice in the air before diving into the water. Link ran to the edge and looked into the water, waiting for her to resurface. Her head popped out of the water, which slightly startled Link, causing him to jump back a bit. But when he saw it was her, he laughed at his own reaction.

"That looked so cool! I wish I could flip in the water like that!" Link called out to her.

"Thanks! Maybe I could teach you at one point," Mipha offered. "But we can save swimming lessons for later. Come on in! Are you scared of the water being too cold?" Mipha teased.

"I am not scared of cold water! I bet it's not even cold," Link shot back, and took off his socks and shoes and laid them neatly under the tree Mipha put her trident underneath. He smiled and ran toward the water.

"Cannonball!" Link shouted as he was still in midair. He jumped near Mipha on purpose so that he would splash her as much as he could. He expected it to affect her much more than it did, but water splashes don't affect Zora that much. Mipha gave him a competitive look. Link then realized he was in for it now.

"Ok ok ok! No more splashing! I get it! It won't happ-"

*SPLASH*

Mipha laughed as Link resurfaced and shook his wet hair out of his face to reveal his laughing smile. "You splash really well, fOr A zOrA. Everyone knows Hylians splash the best!" Link teased, knowing how wrong he was.

Mipha smiled and raised her hand, prepared to send another tidal wave his way. "Do I hear a challenge?"

"No, but you'll hear this!" Link splashed as hard as he could back at Mipha's face. Mipha pretended to be shocked. "Now you're really in for it!"

For the next hour, the two splashed and swam around the waterfall. They took turns splashing each other, and Mipha would occasionally show off some special trick that only Zora could perform. For a skilled Zora, completing five full frontflips ten feet out of the air after jumping from underwater was easy, but for Link, it was one of the coolest things he had ever seen.

"So how long can you hold your breath underwater?" he asked her while they were taking a small break.

"I can breathe underwater silly. I don't have to hold my breath."

"Woah! I wish I could do that. I can hold my breath for 30 seconds underwater!"

Mipha smiled, then looked at the sky. "We should start to head back to the Domain. It's getting late, and I don't want to have your parents worry."

Link nodded his head in agreement, then got out of the water. Mipha waited patiently with her trident as Link put on his socks and shoes, then they walked down the path leading toward the Domain. Link didn't say much as they walked down, but Mipha could tell he was deep in thought over something. The silence was broken by Link suddenly giggling.

"What's so funny?" she asked.

"So you know how we are friends? Well, one could say you're my aqua-intance! Ha Ha Get it?"

Mipha laughed loudly, "Was that a pun?"

"Yeah, water you gonna do about it?"

"I'm going to try and pond-er another joke."

"I never get tide of making water jokes."

"I can tell. You really make them flow."

"I bet you fish you could make puns as well as I do."

The two laughed together at their own jokes and continued their trek down the mountain leading to the Domain. They reached their destination quickly and by the time they got there, it was nearing sunset. Mipha and Link looked around for Link's parents, and they soon spotted them talking to a Zora captain in the town square. The Zora stood much taller than Alvar and Zarya and he wielded a beautifully crafted Zora spear. They walked up to them and could hear bits and pieces of their conversation. They were discussing Vah Ruta, a popular topic among the aquatic race. Zarya noticed Link and Mipha first and politely excused herself from the conversation, which had switched topics to recent battles the two captains had recently fought in. She heard all about them from Alvar, and after hearing about it so much, she was glad to have an excuse to leave the conversation.

Link ran into her open arms and Zarya looked back at Mipha gratefully, who was smiling brightly.

"Thank you so much for watching him, and bringing him back safe with such great timing. My husband and I truly appreciate your kindness."

Mipha blushed slightly at the compliment, "Oh it was no trouble at all. I had a great time to be honest. I heard you all are staying for two and a half more days. I would be more than happy to keep an eye on him! He would make great company for my little brother Sidon, who I promised to watch for the remainder of the time you Hylians are visiting our home."

Link looked up at his mother with a hopeful look and Zarya smiled back, "If that's fine with you, I would be just fine with Link tagging along with you and your little brother. Thank you so much for helping us watch him. You have no clue how much it means to us," Zarya replied gratefully.

Zarya looked down at Link, who was wearing a goofy grin. "Well, we should go to our camp set up by our carriage outside the Domain. The Royal Family is staying here, but we get to leave their guard at night. So we kind of made it into a camping trip of sorts. We will see you tomorrow, thank you so much again."

"Bye Mipha! See you tomorrow!" Link called out to her as he waved.

Mipha waved back, "See you tomorrow Link!"

With that Link and Zarya walked out of the Domain and Mipha went her own separate way to the upper level of the Zora Domain. When Zarya and Link walked out of the Domain they spotted Alvar struggling to put up their tent. He had picked a quiet place that was a decent distance away from the Domain, so the small family would have their privacy, while also being close by in case they were suddenly needed.

"I see you're struggling with the tent," Zarya remarked teasingly.

"I sEe YoU'rE StRuGgLiNg WitH tHe TeNt," Alvar mimicked Zarya's voice. He laughed and looked up from the tangled cloth and ropes he had somehow managed to get himself tied up in. "In all seriousness, some help would be greatly appreciated."

"Cleary," Zarya smirked. She walked over with Link and together the tent was put up easily in a matter of minutes. Link and Alvar went off to find some sticks for a fire and Zarya prepared some food to cook over the fire she had just started. While the family ate dinner, Link told his parents all about his time with Mipha and his adventures in Zora's Domain. Alvar was especially proud when Link told them about the water puns that the two shared. Zarya seemed less amused.

When Sunday morning came around, Link woke up very excited to spend the whole day with the Zoras. His parents were just excited to start the day so they could get off guard as quickly as possible. They were given leave of the Royal Family at 1:00 p.m. So they couldn't wait, because it had been a while since they had visited, and wanted to do some sightseeing. Alvar was still trying to convince Zarya to go swimming.

"Your mom and I will look for you when we get off guarding duty. Make sure to stay with your friends and stay safe. We'll see you then Link!" Alvar and Zarya smiled and waved before making their way to the upper level of the Domain. Link wandered the central area and looked around for Mipha or even Kodah. Luckily, Mipha found him first, and this time she was accompanied by a Zora bearing the same red color like herself, but much smaller. Link smiled and ran up to her and the little Zora she was carrying.

"Good Morning Mipha! Is that your little brother Sidon?"

Little Sidon turned his head to look at Link when he heard his name mentioned. "Good Morning to you too Link! And yes, this is my little brother Sidon," Mipha replied proudly. She placed the tiny Zora on the ground to stand on his own. He stood up but seemed very shaky. As soon as he seemed about to fall, Mipha scooped him back into her arms.

Link walked closer to get a better look. It was the youngest Zora he had ever seen. He admired the sparkly jewelry that he wore. He had a shiny belt and a small silver crown adorned on his head. He had some sort of jewelry cuff on his neck, but Link couldn't quite name it. "Can he walk or talk yet?"

"He can stand and take a few steps if he's feeling really strong, but when you see him in the water you will be very surprised. You see, Zora can swim before they can walk. And as for talking, I can understand some of his 'baby gibberish', like when he's hungry, wants to be helped or held. Stuff like that I understand, but he should be talking fluent Hylian and Zora in around, oh, ten years."

"Ten whole years till he can talk?! That's so long!" Link exclaimed. The idea of not talking for another ten years shocked him and made him start to greatly question the age of every Zora he had seen.

"Zora age much slower than Hylians, and every other race in Hyrule for that matter. Ten years might seem long to you, but for me, it's about one and a half years," Mipha explained. Link nodded his head in recognition, but secretly couldn't help but wonder what Mipha's age was in 'Hylian years'. He reasoned around 100.

Link, Mipha, and Sidon went to the Veiled Falls for the day. Kodah met up with them soon after they arrived there.

"Hey Mipha and Linny! Nice to see you two! Oh and you brought Sidon this time! Yessssss!" Kodah walked up to Sidon, and Sidon seemed to recognize her and smiled. He walked unsteadily to her arms and gave her a quick hug, but then got shy again and went back to Mipha.

"Aww he's so adorable!" Kodah exclaimed. Mipha rolled her eyes playfully.

"You say that every time you see him and you see him every day."

"And every day he's adorable."

"You only say that because you're not his sister. He has a super annoying side too. He threw my trident off the edge of the Domain cause I wouldn't get him a second cookie," Mipha laughed. Sidon gave her a hurt look. "Oh but he's still cute," she amended. Kodah laughed at their interaction.

Until 1:00 p.m. they all swam around the waterfall, laughing and having a great time. Mipha was right, Link was quite surprised at how well Sidon swam. He swam like, well, a fish. If he wasn't swimming on his own, he was on Mipha's back as she swam. Link didn't dare splash Sidon, or Mipha while Sidon was on her back. He had a feeling that it was a terrible idea. But Link couldn't wait until his parents arrived at the Veiled Falls, which should be any minute now.

Finally, Link heard the familiar voices of his parents as they neared the falls. He saw his mother wearing a medium-cut skirt, that was airy and light. It was colored a shade of light blue. Her white linen t-shirt shifted with the light breeze. His father wore Hylian trousers and a light red shirt. Neither of them was wearing shoes. They approached where the small group of friends were swimming and stood at the edge of the water. Link excitedly waved to them. They smiled and waved back.

"The water sure looks nice and cool," Alvar remarked, trying his best to keep a straight face.

"It does look nice. Ohh but too bad I'm not dressed for swimming," Zarya replied. She was sure she had wiggled around swimming that day, but her significant other had other ideas.

"Well I suppose that can be worked around right?"

"Alvar no."

Alvar suddenly pushed Zarya into the water, but unexpected to him, she grabbed his clothes and took him down with her. They both made a huge splash, causing Link and his Zora friends to turn their way to see what caused the commotion. They saw Alvar laughing at Zarya as she tried to get her wet hair out of her face. However, he laughed so hard he started to choke on some water he accidentally swallowed.

"Ha! That's what you get for pushing me!" Zarya laughed back. Alvar splashed her as a response. Zarya splashed right back. Link rolled his eyes at his parents. He looked at Mipha and Kodah, who watched the Hylian couple with amused smiles.
