The Beginning
As the sun peeked through the curtains, Daphne yawned and stretched in her bed. She wandered into the kitchen where her parents were sipping their morning coffee. Without skipping a beat, Daphne blurted out, "I had a dream about Grandma last night." Her parents exchanged a knowing glance before her mother replied, "Well, why don't you take a look at some of her things in the attic? It might bring back some memories of her." Intrigued, Daphne nodded and made her way up to the dusty old attic, unsure of what she might find.
Daphne gets to the top of the stairs and continues to move forward, as she trips on a box that sends her tumbling to the floor. She slowly starts to get up, she feels the pain of her knee that hit the wood floors. She looks up for a split second and spots a picture frame. There were people on it that looked like they were from the 40's.
As Daphne reached for the frame and turned it over, she was surprised to see a couple of names inscribed on the back. Curious about the connection between the names and the picture she had found, she felt a sense of excitement and anticipation building within her. Who were these people? What was their story?
However, just as she was starting to lose herself in the beauty of the picture, she felt a sharp pain in her leg. Cursing under her breath, she stumbled and fell to the ground, clutching her knee in agony. It was much worse than she had thought.
Daphne rubbed her sore knee as she peered down at the old box she had stumbled over. Curiosity piqued, she knelt down and lifted the dusty lid, revealing a treasure trove of forgotten treasures. Among the moth-eaten clothing and yellowed papers, Daphne's eyes lit up as she discovered a stack of old journals. Intrigued, she began flipping through the pages, eager to uncover the secrets hidden within the pages.
Just as she was about to take a look at the journals she heard a noise as she was taken aback. She glanced over at the window seal where she had heard the noise and slowly made her way toward it.
Daphne had always been curious, so when she heard a strange noise coming from outside her window, she couldn't resist taking a look. As she peered out into the sunlight outside, she saw nothing out of the ordinary - just the familiar sights of her quiet neighborhood. Confused, she turned away from the window, only for the noise to come again, louder this time. Startled, Daphne stumbled backwards and landed on top of the old box of her grandmother's belongings that she had just been sorting through.
She got back up and as she picked up the scattered items from the box she had knocked over, she couldn't help but curse herself under her breath. Among the mess, she spotted a glimmer of silver and reached for it, only to find a locket. It had a mysterious air about it, with ornate patterns etched into its surface. Intrigued, Daphne gently opened the locket and was surprised to find a tiny hourglass inside. She couldn't resist the urge to turn the hourglass over, and as she did, a strange sensation washed over her.
She thought about putting it on for a second, but something inside her urged her to give in to the curiosity that was building inside her. She was being drawn to its intricate design and the way it seemed to be whispering to her while she was holding it in her hands.
As she unchained the locket and wrapped it around her neck, a sense of excitement and curiosity washed over her.
As soon as the locket clasped around her neck, the entire attic seemed to transform before her eyes. The once dilapidated space now shimmered with elegance, the cobwebs replaced with sparkling chandeliers and the worn out furniture now gleaming with polish. Daphne was taken aback by the sudden change.
As Daphne ran toward the stairs, her heart pounded in her chest. She couldn't believe what she had just witnessed in the attic. She took a deep breath and called out for her parents.
Two women in long, flowing dresses ran towards her, concern etched on their faces as they asked what was wrong. "What's wrong my dear child" One of the women said to her. Daphne tried to respond, but her breath came in ragged gasps, her heart pounding in her chest.
Daphne's heart pounded in her chest as she took in her unfamiliar surroundings. The two women who had approached her were dressed in strange clothes. Panic set in as she realized she was no longer in her own home, but in a place that seemed like it belonged in a different time altogether. With confusion clouding her thoughts, Daphne could only wonder how she had ended up in this unknown place.
She broke away from the women's grip and sped down the hall. She bumped into another lady, Daphne apologized to the women, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to run into you" the women looked at the girl and touched to raise her chin up to meet the women's gaze, "You really need to be more careful, little one" Daphne took a good long at the women and felt her heart slow down rapidly.
Daphne couldn't believe what she was seeing. As she blinked and tried to focus, her breathing slowed and she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She couldn't shake the feeling that her eyes were playing tricks on her, but deep down she knew that there was something truly magical happening before her very eyes.
All of a sudden, she lost her balance and fell to the ground, her vision becoming blurry. She could only make out the lady standing in front of her, mouthing words that she couldn't quite decipher. And then, in an instant, everything went black. The last thing she remembered was the sound of her own heartbeat pounding in her ears before she drifted into unconsciousness.
