Chapter VI: Two of the broken

I stood up slowly and cautiously, looking at the Umbreon, an Umbreon of red rings instead of the usual yellow.

I didn't know what to say, or do, I was much too frightened to talk.

"Hm, I see, not used to seeing 'demons' getting what they deserve?" The Umbreon asked me, a reddish glow emitting off his rings.

"I-I'm actually... REALLY used to seeing that.." I finally said after a moment.

The Umbreon gazed his attention at me for a second of concern, and then gazed to the dead demons.

"I'd take to mind that these... things... had some sort of grievance against you?" He asked me, trying not to be intimidating towards me. Very... thoughtful of my fear.

"They did-" I simply answer, looking down slightly, remembering the awful life back then.

"From the looks of it, you have quite the past." He said, taking a closer look at the demons. "these guys seem... New, yet... are old at the same time."

"Old? New?" I question, finally getting an urge to move forward, above the dead demon.

"Yes, I've dealt with many types of demons, Mon, and all that hell can throw at me." He replied, chuckling at what his past was.

"You seem to be the same way... Your past and all." I say, looking away from the body to not curse my mind anymore.

"Well, in some ways, I'd say so, but with other prospects, I would not agree. No one knows about it, and I feel it would be best if I kept it to myself." He said, looking at the dirt.

"For such a strong, scary, and unusual Umbreon, you look broken, and you seem to be missing something." I say.

He made a slight smirk, and chuckled a bit, before frowning. "Aren't we all missing something?"

I stand still, and look at him as he frowned. "Yeah, EVERYONE is missing something, there is no perfect life. There's normal, better, and..."

"Worse? Yeah, I get that." He said, finishing my sentence.

"I do as well..." I said, frowning as well.

He noticed my frown, and straightened his face. "What's your ordeal?" He said, not trying to sound rude.

"You see... I've had a separate life before I was... here. Unlike now, That life was painful, unfair, and... Dark. Yet... it all kept me alive. Life in the ALTER world is a place I'd never envision myself being, nor did I picture being forced to be the princess to Darka and his world either." I said, lowering my head slightly.

"Okay, fill me in here, who's Darka? And what is the ALTER world?" He questioned, as he stepped close to me, concerned, yet confused.

Thoughts flooded my mind, it brung back things I didn't want to think about. "Master Darka." I said in my head, as I immediately shake my head and put my paw on my forehead.

"Not something to be talked about right now, I suppose?" He said, sighing slightly.

I completely missed what he said, and decided to ramble on. "Darka is the leader of the ALTER world, he created it, as well as millions... no, BILLIONS of Shadow Demons." I said, as he raised an ear when I said 'Shadow'.

"He seems quite, well, 'evil'." He said, making a face of obviousness.

"He's the most definitely evil, yet that word can't describe what he's done to me." I say, frowning again.

"Now now, he isn't here now, is he?" He asked, trying to calm me down slightly.

"He was frozen in time not too long ago, I was told that a "Spiritual" casted his soul to be frozen forever." I said.

"That is no punishment... I would've killed him, and kill him again, and again, and again. An endless cycle of death, all different possible ways as he begs for mercy." He said, continuing to ramble on about how he'd punish him, as suddenly, a sort of fog started to take over the left side of his body.

I didn't know what to say, but I remembered that he slightly reacted to the word 'Shadow".

"Shadow..!" I yelled suddenly.

He immediately stopped, and the fog went away.

"Oh, sorry, how rude of me, I was getting carried awa- Wait a minute, how do you know my name?" He asked.

"I just noticed your reaction earlier and thought--"

"No worries, at least you know now. Perhaps you could tell me your name?" Shadow asked me, as I looked at him funny. 'But there was a fog-like substance around you-' I thought, but shrugged it off. It was as if he already knew what I wanted to say, as he looked at his side and his tail to check if he looked unusual.

"My name is Sol..." I say, not too loud or silent, at least I was not so shy anymore.

"Sol, hm... Quite opposite of what you admire." He said, as he looked at the moon.

"How do you know that I liked...-" I said, as he chuckled. "Absol's LOVE the moon, it's a sense of refreshment. But don't feel alone there, I enjoy it too. It makes my rings glow brighter, or just give me more energy." Shadow said.

"Not too far off." I said, smiling slightly. I didn't feel so different, but rather comfortable around someone who understood how I felt.

"I guess me and you are one's of a broken world, aren't we?" Shadow asked, as I shivered, but nodded slightly and smiled at him.

"I never did get to ask you how your past was..-" I said, but then, a loud crackle was heard, it seemed to be coming from the sky.

"There it is again! That same noise... That same sight..." Shadow said. "My past is not important right now. What IS important though is getting you to a safe place and help you heal up." He said, looking at my injuries. "Is there a place you can go?"

"I- Um, There IS a place, but... I don't want to go back..." I said, looking down again.

"Listen, it's a place to go, I'll go with you. You'll be safe when I'm there, for whatever the problem is." Shadow said. "Now, we must go, before this... Uh, whatever this phenomenon is puts us in danger."

Though I didn't want to go back, I had to forget about what I had to deal with, and go there with a fearless heart so I could be helped. "Right... Let's go." I said, turning to the direction where I came from, and dashed forwards, as he followed rather quickly.

Through the night, with a breaking sky, I race home with a new ally, wondering what would happen in these hours to come.
