Chapter IV: When Shadows Rise

Decending upon a forest with an unusual moon, changing slowly yet fastly at the same time, it was only mist and darkness I ran into. Even if i could sense a disaster, since I'm an Absol, none of this felt irregular to me.

Was i far used to this? Maybe because of Darka and what he expected of me. Darkness was one of the main parts that i was forced to get used to. Another thing was the gruelling training that i took to harness my no longer needed ALTER power. One of the last and less important things that most likely didn't come up to my mind immediately was the ALTER Shadow Demons. Yes, they existed, and it felt like having 10 million superior, annoying, and *too* curious brothers. But as said, that did not really come to mind anymore. In fact, none of it did anymore. I wanted to forget.

Setting out into this mysterious land made me feel... Normal, as if doing this was my instinctive way of life, to go beyond into the unknown. But even if i felt normal, there was no way that i was gonna appear that way to everyone else, looking so distraught, so haunted, and scarred. Compared to a man, a woman would rather get lost in her thoughts more than anything, even if it had to do with her horrible past. Just thinking about it has told me a lot, of how i changed over the years.

                                                        -

The fog of the forest began to get even thicker, making it hard to see, but the importance of semi-freedom and the moon's unusual aura seemed more important than some forest and some simple fog. But even with that thought in mind, it was scary. I was alone, hearing leaves undulating through the wind, seeing nothing in the process.

I felt like i was hallucinating, seeing a large shadowy figure float in front of me, then disappear. I rubbed my eyes, feeling drowsy, and tired.

I kept going. I must go to the nearest moon shrine so it could harness the power of moonlight and i could find out what was wrong. This time, i didn't slow down, i kept going. I started picking up the pace. I was running now. Through the fog, over dead leaves and branches, this moon's mystery, my freedom, i needed it.

Suddenly, a hidden branch under the leaves made me trip, making me fall into a small ditch.

I groaned, feeling bruised and maybe cut in multiple places as i tried to stand up. But the pain wasn't all that awaited me.

I could hear footsteps behind me, yet i was too weak to stand up, and all i could do was turn around. What laid before my eyes was two large shadowy figures. They had no face, just... Eyes of pure blue.

"Wh-who are you..!?" I groaned in pain while asking the two figures.

They didn't respond, instead, they took a step toward me, then another, and another.

I tried to get up, but it was as if something was holding me down.

They got closer, and suddenly, i could tell that they were right next to me. I breathed slowly, as suddenly, i felt a cold hand grip onto my Absol scythe. I groaned again, that being my sensitive spot. They lifted my head up, or at least forced me to raise my head. They finally had it to the point where i was nearly off the ground, as they made me face them.

"A L T E R.  S C U M." One of the beings said, before slamming my head hard onto the ground.

"GAH!!!" I winced in pain, nearly crying at this point.
"L-Let me go!! I just want to go back home!!" I said out of instinct, my strength had dwindled already.

They didn't answer yet again, they grabbed the back of my neck and lifted me up into the air. "And with all ALTER, every bit of them deserve DEATH. You hear me, Absol?" One of the beings said.

I trembled with fear, trying to desperately do something to fight back.

But suddenly, the area filled of red smoke. The beings stopped and looked around, they looked confused, just as I felt along with being scared for my life.

Then, a bloodcurdling laugh was heard, and the beings dropped me onto the ground immediately.

After falling to the floor, I sprawled away from them, as they were suddenly being dragged into the smoke. "AAAAH!!!" One of the beings yelled as I heard a large slash hit the ground, then it all went silent.

Footsteps. That was all I heard as I trembled of fear, unable to move out of my place. And through the fog, red rings glowed brightly, as well as two red eyes.

Footsteps. IT was approaching me. It somehow saw me through all the smoke. I didn't say anything, as I continued trembling, shivering, and gasping for air as fear overtook me.

Slowly, the red smoke eventually cleared, slowly revealing an Umbreon; red and demonic.

"Absol, in what hell is this for such beings to misinterpret and disturb the obscurity of a wondrous being such as you?"
