Rules of Items

There was an extremely long line, in front of me. Every time we get one week done, of our jobs, we get our pockets, bags, and even our weapons checked for any things that we can't take with us back to our home. Of course, I wasn't usually checked, since I would always have to go extra time, and the inspectors would just skip over me. They knew that anything I touched would burn to ashes on the ground. This time was different.

No one had been called up for a soul taking, so I was stuck in line until I was inspected. As I waited and waited extreme hours of boredom, I felt my way to the little flower. Since I was on the edges of Heaven and Hell, it was dark with black. I glanced around, and I took the flower out. It was wide open and shining so bright that it made a light of it's own. It was still in the perfect condition the little boy gave it to me as.

"Grim?" The inspector said, "Wasn't expecting to see you here. Thought you'd be off by the time we were going to be expecting you."

I swiftly put away the flower and looked towards Bai and Yadira. The two inspector's names really fit in with what they do for a living. And here I am, grim and dark. Then again, everyone's names suit their jobs.

"Ah," I said, "I guess it's a first time for everything."

"You probably won't have anything on ya," Bai said, "But, rules are rules, we gotta check."

I nodded, as they made their bright, golden, light slowly fly around me. Their light was a symbol of their pure souls and energy. It's another reason why they're angels. They did nothing wrong, so they get a job that fits their honesty. But that honesty got in the way too quickly.

One of the lights grabbed inside my pocket, and it took out the bright blue flower. It held it, as if the gleaming plant were on a cloud. Bai and Yadira looked at the plant, their eyes wide open with shock. As Yadira held out her hand, her light followed its way to her and gently placed the Earthly object in her hand. She felt the soft blue petals, as the flower's color reflected off of her face with an icy blue look. She handed it to Bai, and he inspected it the same way. They both looked up at me.

"Did you touch this plant, Grim?" Bai asked.

"Y-yes," I chocked out, "I-I-I was taking a soul from a man, and it turns out he was keeping a child hostage."

"And what happened with the child?" Yadira asked.

"I freed him from his hiding spot, and......"

"And?"

"He gave me that flower."

They both examined the flower one last time before Bai held it out to me.

"Hold it in your hand," he said, "I want proof that this isn't some odd Vudu magic."

I hesitantly took the flower from his hand, and just like before it stayed it's glowing self. In fact, it started making its own light brighter than before. The two angels were in shock, as their wings flapped back and fourth.

"How is that possible?" Bai mumbled to himself, "Everything you touch burns and is never to grow again."

"Have you noticed something else, about the flower?" I asked, "It opens in darkness and closes in the light. Just like one of the Hell-flowers."

"You said a boy gave this to you?" Yadira wondered.

"Yes."

"And where were you at the time?"

"A spruce forest in Canada."

"CANADA?!" They both shouted.

"I know," I replied, "There's no way possible that a flower could grow in Canada's weather, but it's true. In fact-" I pulled out the picture from the woman, "-I think this boy grew this flower long ago, with his mother."

Bai grabbed the picture and studied it. His eyes were bouncing back and fourth, faster than a speedy spirit. He looked up when he was done and adjusted his Halo.

"You just took this woman's soul, I suppose?"

I nodded.

"Well, it's just a flower," Yadira said, "It won't do any harm. Besides, if it can withstand Grim's hold, then it can survive the Underworld easily."

The inspectors both nodded and gave me the flower back. I'm still wondering why that flower glowed brighter when it was in the hands of death himself. Me.

K.C.T: Woah, woah, woah, wait! A flower that can survive in the hands of death. THE GRIM REAPER! Yeah, this story is gonna be pretty strange, huh? Let's see if your curiosity brings you farther into the book. Sheesh, I sound like a philosopher. Anyways, see ya later! <3
