33. The End Of Fifth Year

Y/N's POV

I made my way to an area named the Atrium. I rushed out and sprinted to find Bellatrix. I could see her and I ran to where she was.

"Hogwarts has made you soft boy," Bellatrix told me, "the Dark Lord would be disgusted, you couldn't even finish my dear cousin."

I gritted my teeth. "He was my father."

Bellatrix taunted me, I knew I still had to pretend to be on Voldemort's side but anger was consuming me. Consuming me to the point where everything felt numb and all I could see red.

"CRUCIO!" I yelled. The anger consuming me so much I didn't care I had stooped to such a low level.

Bellatrix squirmed in pain before recovering, I fighted the urge to curse her again. "Very good boy, you know how to use an Unforgivable Curse. You mean it...very good..."

I couldn't say anything because Harry had burst into the Atrium. "STUPEFY!"

Bellatrix easily defelcted it and fought back.
"Potter, I'm going to give you one chance!" shouted Bellatrix. "Give me the prophecy and I may spare your life!"

"Well, you're going to have to kill me, because it's gone!" Harry roared. "And he knows! Your dear old mate Voldemort knows it's gone! He's not going to be happy with you, is he?"

I couldn't help Harry here, it would be too obvious to Bellatrix that I wasn't on her side. He was on his own, whilst both were distracted I ran to hide behind a wall where neither could see me.

"What? What do you mean?" she cried, and for the first time there was fear in her voice.

"It's gone." Harry repeated.

"LIAR! YOU'VE GOT IT, POTTER, AND YOU WILL GIVE IT TO ME! Accio prophecy! ACCIO PROPHECY!"

Harry laughed madly. "Nothing there! Nothing to summon! It smashed and nobody heard what it said, tell your boss that!"

"No!" she screamed. "It isn't true, you're lying! MASTER, I TRIED, I TRIED - DO NOT PUNISH ME-"

"Don't waste your breath!" yelled Harry. "He can't hear you from here!"

"Can't I, Potter?" said a high, cold voice.

Voldemort was here. I couldn't face him, I couldn't let him figure out Dumbledore's plan for me. I had to leave, I couldn't let Voldemort know I was here, I focused on closing my mind so that if Voldemort tried to read my mind for my location, he couldn't. I needed Harry to distract him. Whilst Bellatrix was grovelling for Voldemort's forgiveness, I crawled to where I had come from, only to see Dumbledore coming.

"Sir...please, let me go back to Hogwarts. I don't want him to know, I don't want to face him." I pleaded, terror in my voice. I feared Voldemort, I feared what he was going to do with me. All I wanted was for this nightmare to end, for me to finish this year and then start my hellish journey as one of Voldemort's.

Dumbledore looked at me sympathetically. "This is a Portkey to the Hospital Wing. Take it, I have to help Harry..."

I grabbed the object and closed my eyes. When I reopened them, I was in the middle of the Hospital Wing. Madam Pomfrey looked at me, concern in her eyes before ushering me to a bed.

After she had treated to my wounds, I was left alone. No one in the room. I screamed, I let out yells of pain and agony, and for the first time since Sirius' death, I cried. I cried and cried until it all went black.

"'In a brief statement on Friday night, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge confirmed that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named has returned to this country and is once more active.

'It is with great regret that I must confirm that the wizard styling himself Lord - well, you know who I mean - is alive and among us again,' says Fudge, 'it is almost equal regret that we report the mass revolt of the Dementors of Azkaban, who have shown themselves averse to continuing in the Ministry's employ. We believe the Dementors are currently taking direction from Lord Thingy. We urge the magician population to remain vigilant. The Ministry is currently publishing guides to elementary home and personal defence which will be delivered free to all wizarding homes within the coming month.'

The Minister's statement was met with dismay and alarm from the wizarding community, which as recently as last Wednesday was receiving Ministry assurances that there was 'no truth whatsoever in these persistent rumours that You-Know-Who is operating amongst us once more'.

Details of the events that led to the Ministry turnaround are still hazy, though it is believed that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and a select band of followers (known as Death Eaters) gained entry to the Ministry of Magic itself on Thursday evening.

Albus Dumbledore, newly reinstated Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, reinstated member of the International Confederation of Wizards and reinstated Chief
Warlock of the Wizengamot, has so far been unavailable for comment. He has insisted over the past year that You-Know-Who is not dead, as was widely hoped and believed, but is recruiting followers once more for afresh attempt to seize power. Meanwhile, the Boy Who Lived-' there you are, Harry, I knew they'd drag you into it somehow."

My eyes opened, it was like I had awoken from a refreshing nap, like I woke up from a dream and awoke in a nightmare. Everything came back to me and I had a sudden urge to throw up. I could recognise Hermione's voice reading what seemed to be an article.

"He's the Boy who Lived again now, though, isn't he?" I heard Ron say darkly. "Not such a deluded show-off any more, eh?"

I let out a snort of laughter from where I was, since I had curtains around my bed no one could see me.

"Who was that?" I heard Neville ask.

"I'm not sure," Harry replied, "I thought it was just me and Hermione in here."

"Those curtains have been here this whole time, I didn't think there was someone there." Hermione said.

"Should we go see?" Ron asked.

They all murmured in agreement, seconds later the curtains surrounding my bed were moved and everyone saw me.

"Glad to see you guys made it out alive." I said with a slight laugh.

"You!" Ron said angrily, making his way over to me.

"Really want to hurt an already injured person Weasley?" I sneered.

"Ron...stop," Harry said, "he helped us..."

"You guys are really falling for his act again?" Ron scoffed. "Whatever."

"Neville, Luna, Ginny," Hermione started, "do you mind if you give us some space?"

They understood and nodded, leaving the Hospital Wing. I observed the three of them. I knew Hermione knew of my true identity, and Harry...I think he could've. But Ron, definitely not.

I had a serious expression on my face. "Ah, you know don't you Potter?"

"I knew it when Lucius said that stuff about the prophecy and I knew it when you got in my head. You said the same thing that night..." Harry said, not looking at me.

"What? What am I missing?" Ron asked dumbly.

"Let him figure out." I said, a smile appearing on my lips.

"Whatever" Ron said angrily before storming off. "I'm tired of you and the Malfoy, I'm going to go see Ginny."

When he left I spoke. "How stupid is he going to feel when he finds out I'm Y/N."

They let out a light laugh. "So what's happening with you?" asked Harry. "Who else knows?"

"The Order," I replied, "Dumbledore has this plan for me, he wants me to stay as F/N."

Hermione let out a sigh. "What does he want you to do?"

I gulped. Did I want to tell them? "Well, basically, I'm going to be a spy for the Order. Get on Voldemort's good side you know. Be a Death Eater..."

"What did you mean when you said you were his weapon?" Harry questioned.

"He can't kill me," I said plainly, and Harry and Hermione gasped, "that's why he wants me on his side. He wants me to rule the Wizarding World with him."

"Are you going to join him?" Harry asked.

I laughed. "Harry, you've known me since we were in that compartment on the train. I'm not exactly Voldemort's biggest fan am I?"

"I mean...this year you've surprised all of us. Your whole F/N Malfoy act." Harry said.

"Emphasis on the word act, I had to pretend to be someone else." I said. "Don't worry Harry, I'm not going to go bad."

I realised this whole time that Hermione hadn't said anything and Harry seemed to of noticed as well. "I'm going to go see why Ron's in a strop, we probably won't speak again until next year but...I never got to thank you for that night." Harry said, before pausing. "Thank you Y/N, you were right. I'm always trying to play hero..."

I chuckled. "Yeah the whole let's save Sirius thing."

Silence. I cursed, it was too soon to be talking about him. I had lost a father and he had lost his godfather.

"I'm sorry Harry." I said, a lump appearing in my throat. The subject was still raw and his death was still fresh in both our minds. I didn't cry since after earlier, it felt like I had no more tears in me. It was now more anger consuming me rather than sadness.

"It's fine," Harry said quickly, "I'm going to go."

And with that he left, leaving Hermione sitting next to me. I opened my mouth to say something but more people appeared in the Hospital Wing. My mother and father, along with Issac.

"Y-F/N!" my father said.

"She knows, it's fine." I reassured him.

"Ah alright, well me and your mother thought we'd check up on you before you...you know."

I knew my father was referring to my misson undercover.

"Is everything alright?" my mother asked.

I nodded. "Everything will be fine..."

"I'm sorry about Sirius." my mother said and my father suddenly made a weird noise. Almost like a sob.

"We want to speak to you before we're seperated again." Issac said.

"What are your plans after Hogwarts?" I asked Issac, this was his final year.

"I'm going over to Fred and George's store and I'm going to help them." he replied.

"How...how am I going to speak to you guys next year?" I asked, looking at my family.

"I'm sure we'll figure a way somehow." my mother smiled.

I smiled at them, I then turned to my dad. "Dad, why'd you bully Snape? What did he do to deserve that?"

My dad looked guiltily at me. "We were foolish Y/N, Snape despised James because he was after Lily so James decided to make Snape's life hell. Snape was jealous of James you see, and me being James' friend I went with it. It was stupid really..."

I frowned, was that really an adequate reason? I turned to my mother. "Didn't you try and stop him?"

She opened her mouth to speak but she was interrupted by my father. "We need to go," he said whilst looking at this watch, "the Ministry needs all hands on deck to sort the whole Voldemort returning thing."

My mother smiled at me softly. "I'll explain everything about when we were younger and when we were at Hogwarts another time."

And then they all hugged me, losing Sirius was hard. But I knew that I still had a family that cared for me, that loved me.

Once they had left, it was me and Hermione again.

"So..." I said, trailing off, not knowing what to say.

"I never got to tell you how mad you made me. Hiding from me all year, pretending you were dead...letting me suffer." Hermione said, tears glistening in her eyes. She punched me lightly but I didn't complain, I knew I deserved it. Luckily the atmosphere was emotional so Hermione didn't scold me or yell at me like I thought she would.

"I'm sorry 'Mione, I had to." I said guiltily. "At least you know now..."

"I-I just don't want to lose you again."

I made space in my bed and motioned for her to join me. She climbed in and I wrapped my arms around her as she buried her face in the crook of my neck. I rested my head on hers and kissed the top of her head as we laid there comfortably.

After minutes of comfortable silence I spoke. "Hermione...promise you'll wait for me...promise that when this is all over we can be together again."

She looked up me and nodded, I could see the tears in her eyes. "Y/N, promise you'll keep on loving me, that being a Death Eater with Voldemort wont change anything and that you won't end up following their...beliefs."

"Always."
