21. Marissa's Story
Flashback to Marauders' Era
Marissa King's last name was not King, she didn't know who her mother was and her father...well he didn't like to go by his birth surname. So Marissa gave herself her own surname and never told anyone her true parentage. Naturally, the staff at Hogwarts knew but they understood she was nothing like her father. She was an intelligent, independent, beautiful young woman who could hold her own ground.
She was entering her seventh year at Hogwarts, her final year. Her best friend Lily Evans was selected as Head Girl after being a respectable Prefect alongside Remus Lupin in their fifth year. What came as a surprise was the choice of Head Boy. Marissa thought that it would've been Remus again, or maybe even Steven. But no, James Potter was chosen as Head Boy, much to his delight. Although at first, they never really got along, after an incident involving Severus calling Lily a 'Mudblood' the three girls stopped hanging around Severus and started hanging around the boys, who referred to themselves as the 'Marauders'.
Near the end of their fifth year, Steven and Joyce both realised their feelings for each other and with a push from their respective friends, a relationship quickly blossomed, which drew the three girls closer to the Marauders.
In her sixth year, Sirius Black had managed to charm her over and the two had started dating. Marissa couldn't lie, Sirius Black knew how to treat a girl well. All the rumours of him being Hogwarts' Playboy and all Marissa's fears of him cheating on her quickly disappeared weeks into their relationship. Sirius treated her like she was the most important girl in the world and he made her feel so special.
All they needed now was Lily to date James, it was obvious that a small part of Lily liked James back, she was just too stubborn to admit it.
"I cannot believe they made James Head Boy!" Lily complained, in their compartment. Marissa and Joyce both smirked.
"Well...he does seem to be getting more responsible." Joyce commented, before looking out the window.
"I have to go, we're meant to talk to the Prefects." Lily sighed, getting up and making her way out.
"Have fun!" Marissa called out, earning her a glare from Lily.
The two remaining girls were then quickly joined by both their boyfriends and the other two. James had obviously gone to speak to the Prefects.
Steven sat next to Joyce and Sirius sat next to Marissa and as for Remus and Peter, they sat on the edge, nearest to the door.
Steven interlocked his hands with Joyce, causing the girl to blush.
"Good summer?" Sirius asked the girls.
"It was alright, just went round Lily's and Joyce's a lot." Marissa said.
"I was studying for our N.E.W.Ts." Joyce said.
Steven chuckled. "You'll ace it. I, on the other hand, spent most of my time round James' playing Quidditch."
Steven was a chaser on the Quidditch team, he originally tried out to be seeker but James was better.
It wasn't long until Sirius and Marissa started making out in the compartment, much to their friends' disgust.
"Can you not!" Remus exclaimed.
"Tired of being single Moony?" Sirius chuckled.
Remus scoffed. "Well...I'm not exactly someone girls would flock over..."
"Oh yes, you and your furry little problem." Steven said with a laugh.
The train journey resumed, with James and Lily joining them halfway through. The eight of them talked happily before they arrived at school, and then they were back into the strict, challenging routine of Hogwarts. Free periods were spent revising for their N.E.W.Ts, or in Sirius and Marissa's case, making out.
Halfway through the year, Marissa and Lily were both summoned to see Dumbledore. James, Sirius, Remus and Peter had retired to their dorm leaving Steven and Joyce alone in the Common Room.
Joyce was reading a book when it was snatched out her hand by Steven, she was then lifted out her seat, bridal style.
"Steven! Stop!" Joyce said loudly.
Steven smirked and he threw Joyce onto a vacant sofa, the girl landing on her back. Steven soon followed, finding himself lying on top of his girlfriend. He leaned down and their lips connected, it was a short but sweet kiss that left them both wanting more. Their lips instantly connected again and this time, the kiss was more passionate. Joyce's hands roamed around Steven's messy hair and his hands were running up and down her back. They were making out on a sofa, in the Gryffindor Common Room.
When they parted for oxygen, Steven started kissing Joyce's neck, stopping on a spot he knew she liked by her ear. He then moved his lips, gently brushing it across Joyce's ear causing the girl to blush.
"I'm going to marry you someday Joyce," Steven whispered into her ear and Joyce felt shivers down her spine, "I promise you, Joyce Marie Travers, I'll marry you."
Joyce opened her mouth to reply when two people burst into the Common Room. Steven hastily jumped off the sofa and sat himself in an adjacent chair. When Marissa and Lily saw Joyce and Steven, they laughed. Steven and Joyce's hair was all over the place and the top few buttons on Steven's shirt had been unbuttoned.
"Anyways...I'll leave you girls to it." Steven said quickly before quickly giving Joyce a peck on the cheek before going up to his dormitory.
"You look like you've had fun." Marissa said with a smirk.
"Shut up."
Halfway through the year, Marissa and Lily found themselves both in the library. They were learning about protection spells. Both of them were told that their future children could be in grave danger. How they knew that was due to Sybil Trelawney. The prophecies had not yet been made yet but Sybil, as a Seer, could sense great danger ahead.
"There must be a spell we can use Lils." Marissa said, scouring every library book. It took them a while but they found it and they dedicated all their time to learning it. It was a love protection spell, so the love of their mothers would protect their children. This would prove to be quite useful in the future, for it saved Harry from Voldemort's killing curse when he was a baby and it would save Y/N L/N from Voldemort's killing curse in the boy's fourth year. What they didn't know was that to activate it, they would have to sacrifice themselves for their children.
"Should we asked Dumbledore for help?" suggested Marissa and Lily nodded. The two girls headed over to the Professor's office and entrusted him with their plan. He helped the girls learn the incantation but they never had a chance to test it, since they obviously didn't have a child yet at the time.
Speaking of children...
"You're joking right..." Steven said, looking at Joyce.
She shook her head. "No, I'm not. I'm pregnant."
Steven watched her with wide eyes, before engulfing her in a hug. "That's fantastic! We're going to be a family."
Joyce had tears in her eyes, yes she was still in school and she was pregnant at eighteen but it didn't matter to her, she loved Steven and wanted to spend to rest of her life with him.
"What's the matter here?" James questioned as him and the three others walked in. They were closely followed by Marissa and Lily.
"Did you make her cry L/N? I'll kill you!" Marissa said, noticing the tears in Joyce's eyes.
"Erm..." Steven said awkwardly.
"No, it's not him...I'm pregnant." Joyce said to her friends, who were all shocked before congratulating the couple.
"So you going to propose?" asked Sirius to Steven.
"Not yet Padfoot...not yet."
"So when did you two...y'know...do it." Peter asked timidly.
"None of your business Wormtail." Steven replied.
"Good on you Stripes." James said, congratulating his friend. "You better make me the Godfather.
"That's for me and Joyce to decide."
Nine months later, everyone had graduated and were waiting anxiously for Joyce to come out of labour. Steven was in there, supporting his wife. As soon as they had graduated, Steven kept to his promise of marrying Joyce and proposed to her, the two also moved in together. James and Lily had finally gotten together and they had moved in, although James had not proposed yet. Sirius and Marissa were doing very well, they too lived together but they weren't engaged...yet.
Hours later, everyone was allowed in to see the latest addition to the L/N family.
"He's so cute!" Lily squealed, admiring the baby boy in front of them.
Marissa smiled, she loved how closed the group had stayed even after graduation. "What's his name?"
Steven spoke. "His name is Issac, Issac Daniel L/N."
The eight of them smiled and all took turns embracing the newborn. When everyone had departed, Sirius and Marissa returned to their house, Marissa was in for a surprise. She turned away from Sirius and when she turned back, Sirius was on one knee.
"Will you marry me?"
Obviously Marissa accepted the proposal and the couple got married early in 1979, after James and Lily. On their honeymoon, Marissa found out she was pregnant and although she was happy, she was scared. Dumbledore had met up with her and Lily again to explain a prophecy...a prophecy relating to both their sons.
Y/N L/N was born and Marissa did as she practiced, and placed a protection spell on him, yet it had not activated yet. Marissa's protection spell was different, it was different to Lily's but Lily never knew that. Marissa spent more hours in the library and found a better protection spell for her son. On Lily's side, when Harry was born, she placed her spell on Harry. However, on that fated October night when James and Lily Potter both were murdered by none other than Marissa's father, everything changed.
And that was when everything became complicated.
