A Goddess?!
Y/n's POV
"Great job training today, guys. We're really getting the hang of Voltron." Shiro says, smiling. Heaving a heavy sigh, I lean back. We had just finished training for the day. It had been a long day, but I felt energized. I was more connected to Orange than ever before.
"Seriously, how far do you think my Lion kicked that broken alien ship? Must have been like a mile!" Lance exclaims.
"Yeah, that'll come in handy when the Galra challenges Voltron to a soccer match." Keith comments sarcastically. I laugh at his statement, and he flashes me a smile. My heart swelled, and I quickly hide a blush.
"Hey, I did something cool and you can't handle it. I get it." Lance calmly replies.
"Your kick ruined our balance. We fell." Keith points out. I laugh, remembering the incident. Voltron had kicked the ship, but had fallen onto its back due to losing balance. I had laughed for a good 30 minutes.
"Well, that falling part was Hunk's fault." Lance says.
"Hey!" The Yellow Paladin grunts.
"All right, save your energy for fighting Zarkon." Shiro says.
"Hello, guys! How was the Voltron workout?" Coran appears.
"We're getting there. Are you and Allura almost done fixing the Castle so we can leave this planet? I feel like we're sitting ducks here on Arus." Shiro says.
"Just about. In the meantime, to get your minds off those duck seats you're worried about, I made you guys an authentic ancient Paladin lunch!" Coran presents the food. It was a purple shade, with bits of green chunks poking out.
"Coran, you just got me hooked on that goo, and now you're switching it up?" Hunk complains.
"This is packed with nutrients." Coran says, looking slightly offended.
"Oh, it smells disgusting!" Hunk covers his nose. I sniff the air. Sure enough, the food was putting off a weird smell. I plug my nose, eyebrows creased in disgust.
"I know! That's how you know it's healthy!" Coran explains.
"Coran, we're on a planet now with fresh herbs, spices, and whatever this thing is. A tuber? Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to head back to the kitchen and spice things up." Hunk states, getting up to leave.
"Where's Pidge?" Shiro asks, looking for the Green Paladin.
"He's probably checking on those prisoners we rescued from Zarkon. They'll all be waking soon in the infirmary." Coran pulls up a spoonful of the nasty food, aiming it at Shiro. "Open the hatch. Food Lion coming in!"
"No. Just...no" Shiro sidesteps and walks out. I giggle at Coran's pleading face.
"You don't know what you're missing!" He calls after him. I laugh, but stop when he looks at me.
"Y/n..." He holds the spoon in my direction.
"Nope!" I run to hide behind Lance, who was laughing at my reaction. Coran huffs and takes his food back, eating some of it. I try not to gag. Hunk comes out with his food, the smell encasing me.
"Mmm...smells good." I say, eyes closed. Hunk laughs and passes out the food. I dig in hungrily. It tasted amazing. "This is amazing!" I exclaim through a mouthful of the food.
"Maybe you should swallow before you choke on it." Hunk laughs. Blushing, I swallow. I jump when alarms start to blare.
"What the..." I look at the Alteans for an answer. Lance slurps his food, earning a glare from me. We run up to the control room, where Allura was bending over a screen.
"What is that?" Keith asks, peering over her shoulder. I move to stand behind her, looking around her arm. A creature was approaching the Castle, diving behind rocks for cover. He had little horns on his head, and he was really small. I had to admit, he looked kind of cute. I watch as it moves from rock to rock, coming closer.
"Aw!" Hunk exclaims.
"Doesn't look too dangerous." Lance comments.
"You never know." Keith says.
"Like me, cute but deadly." I smirk. Keith laughs slightly.
"No. Alteans believe in peace first. Let's go welcome them." Allura says.
"That's adorable." Hunk says, peering at the creature.
"Hey, maybe we can knit him a little sweater!" Lance suggests. I laugh.
"I'm not taking any chances." Keith says. We suit up and walk out of the Castle. The little creature screams, hiding behind a rock. Allura walks out first.
"Greetings. We know you're there. No harm will come to you." She says gently. The little creature comes out. He held a spear.
"Aw!" Hunk exclaims.
"Wait! He could be dangerous. Drop your weapon!" Keith says sternly, pulling out his bayard.
"No one takes Klaizap's weapon!" The creature says, holding his spear close.
"Keith, put that away! Please, kind sir, accept my most humble apologies." Allura says, looking sternly at Keith.
"I am Klaizap, bravest of our warriors. Our village is over Gazrel Hill. I come seeking answers as to why the Lion Goddess is angered with her followers." The creature, Klaizap, explains.
"Followers?" Coran says in confusion.
"Lion Goddess?" Hunk looks at me. I shrug.
"The one the ancients spoke of." Klaizap explains.
"What makes you think she's angered?" Allura says, bending to his level.
"Destruction is everywhere. In the past few suns, fire has rained from the heavens and a giant has danced in the sky." He says, gesturing to the sky.
"I think he's talking about Voltron." Hunk whispers.
"Yeah, I got that." Lance whispers back.
"You have not angered the Lion Goddess." Allura says. I bend down to examine the little creature.
"How can you be certain?" He asks.
"Because..." Allura starts, but Klaizap sees me for the first time.
"Lion Goddess!" He turns in my direction and bows. Confused, I turn around, but no one was behind me. I turn back.
"Me?" I point a finger at myself.
"The ancients were correct. The Lion Goddess lives." Klaizap stands. I blush and look at the others. They all shrug.
"Please, bravest warrior, take us to your village so that we may meet our neighbors." Allura says.
"Only if it will please the Goddess." Klaizap turns to me again.
"Yes." I say, unsure of what to do.
"What about our mission to get off this planet and fight Zarkon?" Keith says, clearly agitated.
"Part of the Paladins' mission is to spread peace and diplomacy. Arus has been our host for 10,000 years. These people deserve our thanks." Allura explains. I yelp as Klaizap grabs my hand and pulls me away. I have to bend over slightly so he could pull me along. I look at the others, pleading. They just laugh and follow. I turn back around and gasp when I see the village. It was small, and simple, yet complex. It was amazing. Arusians come from all corners of the village, gathering around us.
"Oh, Lion Goddess, I, King of the Arusians, formally beg your forgiveness. Please have mercy on us and accept our traditional Dance of Apology as atonement of our wrongdoings." A fat Arusian comes forward and claps twice.
"Commence Dance of Apology! Hoorah!" He gestures to a female Arusian, who starts to dance.
"Uh, please, there's no need for this." I say.
"Moontow, halt! The Goddess has refused the apology. Start the sacrificial fire. We must throw ourselves in." He orders.
"Wait, no! No sacrifices!" I quickly say, holding out my hands. The King turns to me.
"So, we may proceed with the dance?" He asks.
"That's a better idea." I say. The Arusian King clapped twice once more. Several Arusians bowed to me.
"Oh, my! No, please, stand up. You don't have to do that. I don't deserve it." I say. They all look at me in confusion.
"But you are the Lion Goddess." One of them says.
"I'm not. My name is Y/n. I'm a Voltron Paladin with these people." I say, gesturing to the group. "We come from a different world, but we hope to live with you as friends."
"But the mighty robotic angel and Lion...has it not come to destroy us because of our immoral ways?" The king asks.
"Voltron?" Allura asks. "No. In fact, that mighty robot is here to protect you. Let it be known that Voltron will protect every innocent being throughout the universe!" The Arusians cheer, then run toward us. I disappear under a hug-assault from several little ones. Laughing, I play around with them. I don't see Keith watching me with a smile. Suddenly, Shiro's voice comes over the intercoms.
"Team, come in! We need backup! Hello?" His voice was full of panic.
"Shiro?" I throw on my helmet.
"Where is everyone?" He asks. The floor starts rumbling. Put off balance, I stumble back. Thankfully, Hunk was behind me, and catches me as I fall back. The Arusians start to whimper when the source of the rumbling. It was a huge creature, as tall as Voltron. I had no idea how it got here, but I was pretty sure it was Galran.
"Oh, no. We gotta get to our Lions!" Keith shouts.
"Everyone, get inside and stay down!" Allura orders to the Arusians.
"I'm on it!" Hunk starts to run away.
"Huh?" Allura looked in confusion at the Yellow Paladin.
"Not you!" I grab him by the collar. I run toward the Castle, reaching through my mind for the Orange Lion. I hear her purring and spot her flying out of the Castle. I run up a giant rock and jump, as she flies by. She catches me in her mouth and I run into the cockpit.
"Let's go!" I shout. The others are close behind. I spot Pidge and Shiro trying to get into their Lions as the creature stands back up.
"Lay down some covering fire so they can get out of there!" Keith orders. I fire lasers at the beast.
"I'm on it!" The Blue Lion roars by, firing at the beast.
"Check this out! Battle-Lion head-butt!" The Yellow Lion head-butts the beast, causing it to fall back.
"You guys okay down there?" I ask. I smile when Shiro's voice comes on.
"Still alive. For now."
"Are the Galra behind this?" Hunk asks as he flies by for another hit.
"I think so, but I've never seen anything like it." Shiro admits.
"So, what's the plan? Shoot at it with everything we've got? Take out its weapon? Call it names?" Lance suggests.
"If we want to take this monster down, there's only one way to di it...Form Voltron!" The other five Lions form, linking together. I watch as the ground below becomes smaller as the Orange Lion turns into the Voltron Lion, its several colors flashing. The green, red, blue, and yellow legs slam on the ground, as the head of the Lion turns black. The body of the Lion stays orange. I bound next to Voltron.
"Remember, we are one unit, fighting with one goal." Shiro reminds. Voltron launches itself at the monster. They fight, but the beast knocks Voltron off its feet. Roaring, I launch the Voltron Lion at it, taking a chunk out of its arm. It reaches back and peels me off like an insect, launching me half a mile away. Groaning, I make the Lion stand.
"I thought Voltron was the most powerful weapon in the universe!" Keith exclaims.
"Yeah, so how is this monster kicking our butts?" Hunk says.
"Oh, no! The village! We have to protect those people!" I race the Lion at the monster, drawing its attention away from the village. Voltron slams into it, knocking it back.
"That was close!" I say.
"We got him away from the Arusians, but we can't take him down!" Pidge says.
"I got it! I'm going to power-kick that orb thing!" Lance exclaims.
"No! The last time you did a kick, we fell!" Keith points out.
"Stop living in the past!" Lance tries to go for a kick, but the monster hits them in the back.
"Pidge, fire lasers now!" Shiro orders.
"Got it! Fire! Oops!" Pidge stammers as the lasers are deflected.
"NO! Lasers! Lasers!" Shiro shouts. The orb knocks Voltron back once more. I launch the Lion at it, only to be thrown again.
"Every time we focus on that orb, we're blindsided by the monster. And every time we focus on the monster, the orb hits us!" Hunk complains. I heave the Lion back onto its feet.
"Then what do we do?" Lance asks.
"Orb!" The orb slams into Voltron again, this time knocking Voltron into the Lion. I go flying back, crashing against rocks.
"Y/n!" The world was spinning. I think I hit my head on something, because it was hurting pretty bad. "Shiro, Y/n's down! We gotta move! Shiro, are you there? Shiro!" I try to get the Lion up, but it falls back.
"That sound...I recognize this monster from my time in Zarkon's prison. I know how to beat him! Listen, there's a loud sound when the orb returns to the base of the weapon, and every third time, that orb needs to charge up. That's this monster's weakest point. That's when we strike." Shiro explains. His voice fades in and out as I try to stay conscious.
"Okay, so what do we do in the meantime?" Hunk's voice asks.
"Defense!" I watch as Voltron starts to battle the monster. I try to get up, but I just couldn't. I was about to pass out when purring fills my mind. I could feel my Lion. She was transferring energy to me. My eyes fly open and the Lion stands. Orange sparkles had filled the cockpit. With a roar, I launch the Voltron Lion at the monster.
"Y/n! You're okay!" Keith shouts.
"Let's take this thing down!" I say. Voltron had already been hit twice, so we just needed to wait for the last one. But this time, the orb was aimed at me. I brace for impact, and I go flying back once more, but the Lion stays on its feet, roaring.
"Now!" Voltron goes in and hits the orb.
"It didn't work!" Pidge exclaims as the monster begins to stand once more.
"So, now what?" Lance says.
"When I attacked him before, I had a sword!" Shiro states.
"Orb! Orb!" Voltron was hit again.
"We can't take another shot like that!" Pidge shouts. The Lion leaps at the monster, but only gets a few shots in before being thrown back. I land the Lion on its feet.
"Wait a second, guys! I think my Lion's telling me what to do." Keith says.
"Well, whatever it is, hurry up and do it! He's about to fire his third shot!" Lance shouts. The hit caused Voltron to fall back. I preoccupy the monster for a moment, when Voltron jumps up, a sword appearing in its hand. The sword pierces the orb, and the monster flies back, dead.
"Yeah! We did it!" I shout. Everyone starts cheering.
"How did you do that?" Hunk asks.
"Whoa. Thanks, Red." Keith says. Voltron splits back into the Lions, and the Voltron Lion transforms back to the Orange Lion.
"Thanks a lot, Orange. You were amazing." I say, smiling at the purr I earn. We fly back to the Castle. After wishing the former Galra prisoners a safe journey, I wander around the Castle. I find myself in the hangar, Orange looming over me. Smiling, I walk up to her.
"Hey, girl. Thanks for everything." I place a hand on her metal paw. Purring erupts in my mind, and she looks down at me. I smile up at her, then leave. I look back at her as I walk out. I nod to her, and she returns the gesture. Smiling, I walk out to find the others.
