Chapter 6

Selena's POV

I gripped the railing with all the strength I could muster. I hated high places. Hell, I could barely travel on an airplane when I was younger. Mr. Mask-Man beside me, however, was staring at me with an amused smirk on his face.

"You're afraid of heights?" He asked, amused.

"What!" I snapped. "Let's just say it's one of my few fears."

He chuckled. We were at least a thousand feet from the ground. I felt myself pale as I fought the urge to vomit. What is there's an earthquake, what if my kidnapper pushes me off, what if --

"You know if I wanted to kill you, I would have done so a long time ago, right?" Charles said with a raised eyebrow.

I glared at him. "Don't get too cocky with me."

I took a deep breath, exhaled, and slowly walk towards the elevator door. Wait, what if there's something wrong with the elevator, and it falls, which means I'll plummet to my death?!

I turned to look at Charles with a pleading smile as much as I could manage. "Is there any way for you to create a portal for us to return to the ground?"

His expression was so comical that I had to fight the urge to laugh, despite the situation we were in. I let out a sigh as I heard him speak.

"I would if I could, but my kind would be risk, considering the many tourists and witnesses around."

I crouched down, clutching my knees tightly to my chest. Urgh, I hated looking so childish, but I just can't help it. My siblings softened teased me about this for as long as I could remember.

I clenched my eyes shut, not wanting to cry in front of a stranger. A handsome stranger too, I should add. Everyone has their fears. If I die today and never got to say goodbye to my family, then be it. Suddenly, after standing in silence for several minutes, the last person I expected to do so, gave me a hand to help me stand back up on my feet and walked me to the elevator door, never letting my hand go.

I closed my eyes once I got in. This was not how this was supposed to go. He should've created a portal directly to my home. I felt a tear slip down my face and mentally chastise myself. I felt stunned when I open my eyes to see Charles taking his thumb and wiping it away.

"I'm sorry," He apologized, looking away.

Charle's POV

If I looked at her right now, I knew I wouldn't be able to stop the confessions that seemed to be bubbling up and out of me. As the elevator rang in a signal that we were safely back on the ground, I watched in amusement as Selena ran out of the doors and nearly went to kiss the ground. I caught her before she could.

"You know there are bacteria and stuff on the ground, right?" I asked, my eyes twinkling.

She huffed then stormed off, not bothering to see if I was following her.

Suddenly she stopped as if something just hit her. Her face color went a pale ghostly white as I stared at her with concern. She turned around to face me, opening her mouth then closing. She then put a hand to her mouth and let out a small squeak.

"I'm am really losing my mind," I strained to hear what she murmured.

"This is Paris, not London you maniac!" She screeched. I resisted the urge to cover my ears at her loud pitch. I rolled my eyes impatiently. I thought she knew that a long while ago.

"England is special," I said quietly, looking off into the distance. When I turned back towards her, she bit her lip in anticipation.

I chuckled mirthlessly. "England is protected by one of the best borders ever created. It is still an unsolve mystery who put it there and why."

A small frown grew on her pink lips as waited for me to continue.

I sighed. "That's why, my dear, we are going there by boat, well I am. You are going by plane."

Her adorable red face puffed up like an angry hen as she put both of her hands to her cheeks. She started walking around, clearly frustrated with all her loud sighs and groans.

After I explained to her that I had to be the one to raise the barrier by myself, she crossed her arms and took out her hand. I dropped the plane ticket I bought back from the mansion into her hand. Before she could stomp away, I quickly grab hold of her wrist.

Her surprised expression made my features soften as I looked into her gaze. I reached out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear and tilted her chin upwards. I leaned down very close enough to feel her warm breath against my chin. Her red cheeks were now flaming hot as I leaned in and gave her a small peck on her cheek. My roaring heart begged me to stay with her. Any time she is out of my sight, danger could easily make its way to her.

"Stay safe," I warned, smirking as I saw her give a quick nod. With flushing cheeks and her face filled with at least fifty shades of red, she quickly made way to the boarding gate. I already arranged her suitcases to be transferred for her departure. Watching her leave without a backward glance cracked a tiny crack in my heart.

She will be fine, I tried to console myself as I walked out of the airport and into the chilly mist of the cold Paris air.

Selena's POV

I managed to remember how to walk; how to put my belongings properly in the cabinet above of my seat on the plane. To my dismay, before I could even reach the handle or the cabinet, a waiter appeared out of nowhere and swiftly did everything I planned to do in the next few seconds. Purks of being in business class, I though, grumbling. I wasn't hungry as I just ate not he last plane trip. Instead, I looked out of the window and marveled at the ocean landscapes and incredible lands that seemed to stretch across miles and miles. Not long after, I fell asleep, waking up after what felt like hours when only two hours passed by. I squealed in excitement as I again looked out of the window to witness the land of the United Kingdom in sight. Home, I thought as a soft smile grew on my face.

After exiting the airport, I hustled straight to the nearest port. The flag of England waved proudly in the sun's shimmering ray and flew in sync to the blowing wind of the chilly air. I bit my lip as I spotted a row boat enter shore. I left all of my belongings including my suitcases and flew right where a familiar face stood in view.

Charles's POV

Black mist soon surrounded my rowboat, alerting me that we were near. The row boat came to a halt in front of the familiar green transparent looking glass. However, I knew it was really the barrier. Humans were not able to see this to ensure that the safety of the faes' existence.

After gaining an encouraging smile from an old acquaintance who was currently keeping his paddles on his lap, I waved both arms to make a cross over my head, then broke it. Slowly, I recited the lines I learned from my childhood three times, "Barrera, vete, barrera vete, barrera vete." As I said these lines, I drew round lines to create a hole big enough for a boat to pass through.

The barrier gradually created a small hole, perfect for the row boat to fit through. I turned back to the person who was rowing the boat and gave him a rare grin. "Thank you," I whispered. I gazed in admiration as small golden flakes seem to jump out of the barrier, some leaping right into my hand.

As we reached the port of England, I gave the guy a nod before grabbing my suitcase and leaping out of the boat where a familiar pair of eyes and form made way to me. I spread my arms wide, waiting for Selena to wrap herself around them. Instead, I got a punch on the shoulder.

"You're late," She stated with a cute pout on her lips. I grinned. The smile soon faded as I noticed that her belongings were not with her. I looked at her alarmed as she gave me a shrug in reply. She turned around and started walking towards stairs that led to the benches seated alongside the peaceful, undisturbed road.

As we reached one of the benches, Selena gave a cry of terror as I rushed at once to her side, asking her what was wrong. She pointed to the empty bench. I frowned in confusion before realization hit me pretty hard.

"My belongings!" She wailed, looking around frantically for two large suitcases and a small handbag with a hat apparently.

After walking up and down the street for half an hour, we stopped by a cafe shop to rest before we resume our positions. Sighing in defeat, I took Selena's arm and dragged her back to the starting point. She crossed her arms, waiting for an explanation about why we came back to the empty bench. As I was about to give her a huge piece of my mind, a hand clasp Selena's shoulder, the stranger reveiled himself by introducing himself to Selena.

"I'm Josh," He started, glancing back from me and Selena. He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly as I crossed my arms, tapping one foot on the ground.

After a super long while, he gazed at Selena and said, "I saw some belongings right outside the shop so I kept them in my shop in case someone came looking for them." He pointed towards the cafe which we just exited. I rolled my eyes. What dumb person would touch something unknown. There could be a bomb inside!

Selena thanked him as he gave back the things he took. One of them was not time. I grasp Selena' arm and we set off to her house.

Somehow, our fast walk turned into a sprint as we raced to her house. As I reached the front porch, I put my arms up in victory, only to turn back and witness Selena's pale face.

"How do you know where I live," She asked, her voice shaking in barely controlled anger, flames noticeable in her eyes.

I put up both hands in front of me as if to soothe a raging animal, "Selena, it's not what you think..."

I ducked as her fist came flying towards my face.

"You psychopath, you murderer, you pervert!" She yelled, trying to punch my chest. She wasn't a very good fighter, but I was impressed with her strength. I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I failed to notice her knee flying up to kick me very, very hard where the sun doesn't shine.

"Yep, that does it," I gritted out as I went down on both knees. Selena covered her mouth with both hands before a cold expression washed over her features. Surprisingly, she gave me a hand. I gladly took it, finding it hard to even move a muscle. I felt her pull me up around half-way only to throw me back on the ground. I looked up in shock as a smirk grew on her face, and she turned and went into the house.
