Chapter Thirty-Seven
SOPHIA
"Wake up my beautiful star." A voice cooed as a hand caressed my cheek.
My eyes snapped open when I realized who that voice belonged to.
There he was, smiling down at me with a dangerous glint in his eyes.
My blood ran cold when I realized this was all real. It wasn't a nightmare this time.
"Oh don't look so scared. I'm not gonna hurt you unless you make me." David laughed, walking away to the other side of the room.
This gave me a chance to take in my surroundings. The walls were wood and looked like they could collapse at any moment, and the floor was covered in hay, so we were most likely in a barn. And something this worn down was definitely very secluded.
"What do you want?" I sneered, attempting to stand up only to find that my hands and feet were tied to the chair I was sat in.
"I'm torn really. I want you all to myself, but I also want revenge for being locked up. Do you see my dilemma?" He asked rhetorically.
Cry me a river hun I wanted to say but I knew to keep my mouth shut. I wouldn't be able to hold back my remarks forever though.
"To kill or not to kill? Now that is the question." He continued, laughing at his own joke. He always did have a thing for poetry.
As he continued to laugh I studied him. He had the same shaggy blonde hair and blue eyes I remembered, giving off a false sense of security. His features were so soft and gentle, if you didn't know him you'd feel certain he couldn't hurt a fly. His looks never matched his personality, there was no way to know what his true intentions were, making him the perfect predator.
The only thing different I noticed about him was how much muscle he put on. He could already overpower me before he went to jail, I had absolutely no chance at fighting him off now.
He still had the same unpredictable angry energy. I knew at any moment he could snap and kill me without a second thought, but that scare me anymore. Death seemed oddly inviting when I thought about what else he could do to me. And what did I have to live for anyway? Tori was the only thing keeping me alive since everything happened, but she'd be better off without me. I brought pain and danger everywhere I went.
"What do you think I should do Star?" He asked, training his evil eyes on me.
"Either way I'm gonna die so I really don't care." I spat back, venom dripping from my voice.
"How so?" He asked, looking at me like he was observing something under a microscope.
"If you kill me I'll die, and if you don't kill me, I'll kill myself." I explained and smirked when I saw his cocky expression turn to pure shock.
"Well I can't let that happen now can I?" He said, walking towards me like a lion staking its prey.
I probably shouldn't have opened my big fat mouth. Now he'd keep me alive just because I didn't want him to. The only way I could get out of that was by making him completely snap.
"So how's jail been?" I asked, forcing a smirk on my face. I needed to get him angry, I just wanted this to be over.
"I met a lot of people who gave me great ideas for what to do to you when I got out." He sneered, but quickly composed himself and smiled down at me.
"Why don't you demonstrate one of those ideas." I urged him, raising my eyebrows challengingly.
He bent down until he was eye level with me, then he leaned forward slowly.
My eyes widened when his lips were a breath away from mine, but instead of kissing me he redirected to my ear.
"What a splendid idea." He whispered, then leaned back just enough to smash his lips to mine.
However, the kiss only lasted a few moments because as soon as I got the chance I bit down on his lower lip as hard as I could.
"Fuck!" He yelled, shooting up from his crouched position in front of me.
I smiled in satisfaction when I saw blood dripping from his mouth.
After a minute of him panting in anger, he suddenly looked me in the eyes and smiled a sick, sadistic smile.
"So you like it rough, huh?" He spat, storming up to me again.
"I'll show you rough!" He yelled and backhanded me across the face.
As my head snapped to the side I bit the inside of my cheek to hold back a whimper. I couldn't let him have the satisfaction of knowing he caused me pain.
"I didn't like it rough until Dylan showed me how great it could be." I said smugly, knowing that would get him going.
The reason he went insane in the first place was because he thought I was cheating on him with Dylan.
"You cheating bitch!" He roared and launched himself at me.
My chair fell back with the force of the impact and I hit my head on the ground. Black dots clouded my vision but I quickly blinked them away.
Before I even realized what was happening, David swung his fists wildly, landing punches all over my body.
Somehow as all of this was happening the ropes I was tied to the chair with got loose enough for me to slip out of, so I could block some of the hits.
After a while David started to get tired and eventually stopped beating me.
As soon as he was a few feet away from me I tried to get up to escape but my body was too weak and sore from the beating.
David laughed at how pathetic my escape attempt was and walked over to a duffle bag I never noticed.
He sat down on the floor beside it, facing me, and started taking items out.
Water.
Chips.
Rope.
Knife.
Gun.
Those five things sat in a neat line beside him.
I knew I should be terrified, but I wasn't.
I felt nothing but pain from all his punches, and I welcomed it. Pain was better than nothing.
We both sat, facing each other, in silence.
"Are you scared of hurting me or something? What are you doing just sitting there like a coward?" I spat, breaking the silence because I just wanted this to be over with. I tried to fight it but I was too weak.
Like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over his head, David shot up and looked around angrily. I guess I struck a nerve.
"It's about time." I grumbled to myself, but loud enough for him to hear.
He bent down, grabbed the gun, and pointed it at me.
"Just shut up!" He screamed desperately, his voice higher than usual. It almost sounded like he was about to cry.
"Aw did I hurt your feelings?" I cooed as if he were a baby.
"I said shut up!" He yelled, his voice harsh and cold this time.
"Why don't you make me?" I suggested, smirking for what felt like the millionth time since I found myself in this mess.
In the blink of and eye David dropped the gun and had me pinned to the ground.
"You really shouldn't have said that." He whispered in my ear, then trailed his nose from my ear down my neck and to the top of my chest, inhaling my scent the whole time.
What the hell was he doing?
I started to struggle under him but he had both my hands pinned above my head in one hand, and his body weight was enough to hold down the rest of me.
He ran his other hand from my shoulder down to my upper thigh as he buried his face in the crease of my neck.
I internally panicked as I fought away the memories of when he did this before.
What was I supposed to do now? I was weak and battered and there was nobody around for miles.
David moaned against my neck when I struggled under him again, and that gave me an idea. I knew exactly what I had to do.
"Dylan." I moaned as his hand crept up my thigh, fighting back the urge to vomit.
"What?" He yelled, sitting up to straddle me, releasing my hands in the process.
"He's the only one on my mind." I whispered, breathlessly since his weight on me was making it hard to breathe.
"That's it!" He yelled and wrapped his hands around my neck, cutting off my oxygen supply completely.
I didn't struggle, or even bat an eye, I just looked up into his glazed over blue eyes and hoped it would all be over soon.
My lungs burned and there was a pounding in my ears as the pressure in my head increased. It felt like my head was going to explode, but I still wasn't scared.
This would all be over soon I told myself, and closed my eyes.
I could feel myself slipping away, the faint light behind my eyelids started to get darker and darker, and then I couldn't even feel David on me anymore.
I opened my eyes to see if I could see an angel, or the light, or something, but all I saw was the barn roof through spots of black.
I gasped for air when I realized David wasn't choking me anymore, and my eye sight cleared up soon after.
I looked around, gasping for air, and saw David standing up, his back to me, pointing the gun at someone.
I squinted to see who saved me and the air left my body all over again when I recognized him.
Damon.
How was he here? How did he know where to find me?
I strained to hear what they were saying but the pounding in my ears was still too loud.
Eventually, after a lot of beep breaths, I could faintly hear what they were saying.
"As you can see little cousin, I'm busy right now."
My heart dropped. They were related?
"What the fuck Dave?" Damon growled, taking a threatening step forward despite the gun pointed at him.
"Why do you look so angry? I'm doing nothing wrong." David replied defensively.
"You don't think this is wrong? You don't think everything you've done to Sophia is wrong?" Damon yelled back, taking another step towards David.
"This girl is a cheating little whore! She deserves all that I've done." David yelled back, gripping the gun tighter.
I wanted to tell Damon to leave. To just let me die and save himself, but I didn't have the strength to speak.
"I looked up to you. You were my father figure when my dad died, and you turn out to be some psychotic killer? You're sick and deserve to rot in jail, and then in hell." Damon spat, standing right in front of David now. All that separated them was David's arm and the gun.
"There's a reason I'm like this. Everyone hates me and thinks the worst of me. The girl I love cheats on me and now my own family is turning on me!" David cried, rather dramatically.
His grip on the gun tightened even more and then suddenly he aimed it at Damon's leg and pulled the trigger.
There was the loud bang of the gun, the thump of Damon hitting the ground, and then silence.
I tried to drag myself to him but I was too weak, so I just laid there, helplessly watching.
David looked at the gun in his hand in shock, like he couldn't believe he just did that. Then he looked over at me and smiled a heartbroken smile.
Tears started running down his cheeks as he raised the gun to the side of his head.
"To my dearest star,
I've always loved you
But I can see now
That we've long been through.
Our story will end
One with a tragic death
But we'll be together my love
Until my very last breath."
After he said those words I quickly looked away because I knew what came next.
There was one last loud bang and then everything went quiet. It seemed like time froze, everything was still and all I could hear was my heart pounding in my ears.
Then, all at once, there was a million different sounds.
Sirens blaring outside.
Damon groaning in pain and dragging himself over to me.
The police bursting through the barn door, screaming and aiming guns.
Damon whispering comforting words when he got to me.
And then everything went silent again as I fell into the black pit of unconsciousness.
