Twenty Seven

i think this song by the queen herself Jessie Reyez represents our fave couple v well
rn at least lmao

A truck skid to a stop in the grass in front of the Bordoa home.

Onyx flung the door open and soon enough was wrapping on the door. Bear tried to keep up with his fast pace.

The hour ride was cut down to a half hour due to Onyx's speeding. The entire time he berated himself, why did he do that? Why did he say that? Why was he mad in the first place?

Onyx stumbled forward when the door was wrenched open by Kekoa.

Before she could open her mouth Onyx cut her off.

"Is she here?" he asked urgently.

Kekoa shoved him out of the doorway, her glare darkening.

"My mother is trying to save salvage what skin she has on her fucking feet, we can't figure out how the fuck she was walking because it was all burned off! And she was hysterical when she got home because of you!"

Onyx was relieved she'd actually came home.

He listened to Kekoa unload on him, her eyes swimming with tears. Her concern for her sister putting passion into her words.

"She died," he bit out. Kekoa stopped speaking immediately.

"Her heart stopped, she wasn't breathing. She died right there in front of me," Onys husked out barely above a whisper. Saying it out loud almost bringing him to his knees.

Kekoa's eyes were wide and silence was palpable between the two of them.

Onyx rolled his lips as his face contorted in frustration. "Demi almost stayed dead because she took a hit from that batshit crazy witch- for me!" He shouted. Demetrius entered his line of sight, blocking the entrance.

Onyx pressed his hands to his foreheads, panic seizing him as he had no idea what to do. What would he do without Demi? Is he going to have to live without Demi because of his anger?

"Please," he croaked. "I need to see her. I know I fucked up. Fuck!" He held his head as if his skull was splitting in pain.

Bear caught him as he stumbled from the pain. Kekoa and Demetri watched with wide eyes as the strongest Wolf known to the supernatural world crumpled before them.

Onyx breathed heavily, ready to get on his knees and beg to see her. To fix this. He'd regretted the words as soon as he saw her face. He let his fear control him.

"My mate is with her, you can wait outside her room until she's done." Demetri's voice broke him out of his self loathing. Onyx nodded immediately, swallowing hard.

"Thank you. Thank you," he met the Lycan's gaze to convey his gratefulness.

He rushed past the two of them and up to her room quickly. He was surrounded by her smell, even from outside the bedroom. He slumped and almost fell to the ground, slowly sitting across from the door.

He inhaled deeply, letting her scent fill his lungs.

He thumped his head against the wall, closing his eyes as the aching in his chest subduing somewhat. It let him feel the sharp pain in his shoulder from his bullet wound.

He lost track of time, falling in and out of sleep only to be woken up by someone pressing against his wound.

He jolted up and saw Elora beginning to wrap his wound.

"Is she alright?" He glanced down at the older woman.

"She's okay, she's going to have scarring from the lightning. It's all over her body," Elora sighed sadly. Her yellow eyes darted to him, "More upset about you though. She's still out but she was fighting against the magic to wake up. Cried in her sleep."

Onyx let his head fall back in defeat.

He turned to her, he trusted Elora.

"I got scared," he whispered pitifully.

Elora smiled sadly, brushing his hair back motherly.

"I figured," she sat on her heels besides him. "You remind me of myself when I was younger."

"I was lost, but then I found my Demetri and everything was okay."

Onyx brought his knees up, resting his elbows against them and rubbing his face slowly.

"I almost lost her, you all almost lost her because of me. How could I be that selfish?"

Elora sighed heavily, "She's your mate. You're allowed to be selfish with her."

He shook his head vehemently. "I couldn't go on without her."

"You're about to if you don't start groveling."

He growled in frustration but nodded slowly. "Now go see her," Elora put her hand on his arm. She didn't hesitate to dig her nails into his flesh, "And if anything like this happens again, I will put an end to you Wolf."

"Thank you Elora," he mumbled. He'd thanked more people today than he has his entire life.

Onyx watched her strut away before slowly opening Demi's door. Her room was dark as she laid in an athletic bra and underwear. He could see the scars littering her body.

The marks were red and angry on her pretty brown skin. They branched off into little lines, scattering around. There was one going from her hip across to her ribs. One on her arm across her collar, the other he saw curling around her back.

She was curled on her side, he saw her feet were wrapped tight in cloth. He knew she would heal, with the scars fading but the sight still hurt him.

She was laid in the side of the bed he'd been occupying, her nose flush against his pillow. He saw tear stains on her cheeks.

Onyx didn't dare climb into bed with her, he didn't deserve to. He knelt down besides her and watched her take small breaths.

Gently he moved a hair from her eyes, "My poor baby." His voice caught with emotion as he stared down at the small woman that had single handedly turned his world upside down.

He sat for over two hours, watching her breath and move around in her sleep. Trying to reassure himself that she was here.

When her eyes twitched, he was half tempted to leave. She wouldn't want to see him.

In the midst of his thoughts, hazel eyes opened sharply.

Demi blinked to focus on him, her breath hitching. She shot back away from him before groaning in pain.

"Stop moving," he reached to help her.

"Don't touch me."

Demi was slow to move, her face contorting as she turned her back to him. She curled up on the opposite side of the bed.

"Demi I need to talk to you," he tried to inch closer and tried to keep his voice from breaking. He was scared.

"You said enough earlier."

He sat on his side of the bed, staring at the scarring on her back.

"Can you please just look at me, Demi?" He could feel the strain of their bond. It left him unable to think.

She refused.

Onyx quickly started talking anyway, "I've stressed myself out the past couple days at the thought of you in danger. I know I've been a dick even before today, you don't deserve that. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Onyx stood and walked to her side of the bed where he could face her.

He fell to his knees, "You're heart stopped Demi, you weren't breathing for over two minutes. It felt like fuckin' hours. As soon as you started breathing again all the worry left me and all I could think about was what if you didn't. I spiraled in a matter of seconds and I was so angry and so so scared, princess."

He swallowed harshly as he bent his head,
begging. "I've never felt that before," he tried to stop his voice from wavering. He furrowed his brow as he felt a drop against his hands. His eyes widened as he realized he was crying. When was the last time he cried?

He'd been close many times today, he thought.

Onyx's voice was now shaky, Demi finally looking at him and shocked to see him groveling. "I've never felt that before, I've never cared that much about anything. I-I mean what would I do without you? I was so mad I thought it'd be easier to push away rather than have you taken away by someone else. It's not a good excuse, but I'm so so sorry." He wiped at his nose while keeping his gaze down, he didn't want her to see him crying.

"You said you were falling in love with me- I-I've never even thought of loving someone besides my own mother before you. I know I fucked up, I know it. I knew it as soon as you left, I just- I need you."

He went to continue, willing to ramble as long as she'd let him. But her hand reaching out to run through his hair that was damp with sweat.

"Is your shoulder alright?" She slurred into the sheet.

He blinked up in surprise, looking at her. He saw she was fighting sleep and looking down at him with an unreadable expression.

He nodded slowly.

Demi hummed as she looked at the wound, blood sleeping through his bandage.

"Do you mean everything you just said?" Demi asked.

"With everything in me."

"Did you mean what you said at Lake Geneva?"

Onyx tried to steady his breaths, shaking his head no. "None of it. I was angry."

"If you act like that when you're angry again, I'm leaving you."

Onyx sucked in a breath at her stern tone, nodding.

"You're allowed to be mad, if I did something you're allowed to feel upset about it and talk about it. But if you ever," she gripped his sensitive shoulder tightly. Not enough to hurt but enough to remind him of the wound.

"If you ever, take that anger out on me and say anything close to that again. We will be no more."

Onyx reached to grab her hand and press a kiss to her knuckles. He saw her eyes soften, his familiar Demi coming back to him.

"You really hurt me, Onyx," she mumbled.

He knelt up, running his hand up her arm gently. "I know, I'll spend the rest of our lives making up for it."

She hummed in response, he rubbed her back gently. He was careful to avoid her fresh wound as he helped her back into sleep.

Onyx stood, slowly letting her go to sit in a chair. He sat and continued to watch his mate sleep, not wanting to push it by lying next to her.

~~

i hope u enjoyed the continuation of angst. and the completion with some fluff kinda halfway lolol
in my opinion, i couldn't see these characters staying mad at each other. between the two of them they both are blunt and Onyx in particular usually addresses his faults and is always hyper aware of his fuck ups.

i'm sorry if u wanted them to stay mad longer but i physically couldn't write it lolol but we will see how this effects their relationship

the next update will be next week!! unless i get impulsive again lmao
