Thirteen

Demi babbled nervously as her brothers glared daggers at Onyx. The wolf was still pinning her to the counter with his own hips, he had yet to let go of her jaw.

Onyx glared back at her brothers.

"We heard you were attacked Demi?" Kekoa ignored the tension, not surprised by the turn of events.

Demi snapped out of her nerves and pressed her hands to Onyx's chest. He immediately backed away, trailing his hands down her hips before letting her go.

She leapt to hug her sister, "I-I'm okay it was just scary. Sylvester was with me, Onyx and Dad came."

"They were on the territory?" Knox snarled.

Demi nodded slowly. She flinched as Knox slammed his fist into the wall.

Ezra shoved him away, "Chill the fuck out! You're not helping anything!"

"They could've taken her! Right under our fucking noses Ezra! You want me to chill out- fuck outta here!" Knox shoved him back.

The both of them lunged at one another, Kekoa threw her hand out. A glowing pink shield appeared between the two and they both slammed into it.

Demi sighed loudly. "Where's mom and dad?" Kekoa asked as she looked down at her.

"Sleeping I think, so if those two could shut up that'd be great."

"Why don't you stay with Lacey and I for a little bit? Maybe it'll give you some space from everything?" Keko's eyes darted back to Onyx who watched them. He sneered at the idea of 'space' at this current moment. Wasn't that the whole opposite of what they were supposed to be doing now?

Demi smiled at the thought. Lacey was Kekoa's hell hound mate, the two women met four years ago. Lacey had been away on assignment and would be back to stay with Kekoa in their cabin soon.

"No, I'm okay Keke," Demi smiled at her.

"Alright Mimi," Kekoa pet her hair in a motherly manner.

"Demi, you should rest." Onyx's gruff voice spoke lowly. Ezra turned his attention back to him.

"I'm still trying to figure out why you're here, wolf?"

Demi flushed red and Onyx scoffed at him. His mate glanced back at him as if to check it was alright for her to spill the beans.

His black eyes met hers and he slowly nodded.

"Onyx is my mate. We've been working things out, he was checking on me."

The twins both took a sharp breath. They were both looking pale.

Knox glanced at Ezra, mouthing 'what the fuck'.

"Y-You're so young!" Knox blanched.

Demi furrowed her brow with a funny look. "I'm twenty."

"And we're twenty two and haven't found our mates! That is not fair!"

Demi scowled, "Look harder."

Both of their jaws dropped.

"You bitch! You did not!" Knox howled and began winding up his fist, obviously being dramatic. Ezra began playing along as he aggressively held him back.

Demi held her wound as she giggled loudly. As they both approached, Onyx placed a hand on Knox's chest.

"I think it's time Demi rested, hm?" He hummed passively.

"Kekoa can help her to bed," Ezra grunted.

"He's fine, Ezra." Demi announced sternly.

Demi bid a goodnight to all of them, saying she loved them. Onyx watched her, completely enamored with how big her heart was.

He followed her quickly upstairs, examining her room. It was cozy, he'd never felt such warmth from a room. Not to mention the head high he got from her scent. He saw her shuffle to the bathroom.

"What do you need to do before you lay down?" He trailed towards her, not wanting to invade her privacy.

Demi turned towards him after brushing her teeth. She released her hair from her hair tie and pouted as she gripped a hair brush. Her multicolored hair tumbled down her back.

Onyx quickly put two and two together and held his hand out.

Demi paused and glanced up, confused. "What?" She glanced around.

"I'll help," he husked. "Go sit, give me the brush."

Demi was visibly taken aback. "R-Really?"

He nodded slowly. Onyx guided her to sit, hesitantly sitting behind her.

Demi looked behind her, "Uh- it's good to start from the bottom and work your way up. If you get tired I can... um I can finish! You don't have to if you don't want to-"

Onyx cut her off with a simple shake if his head. "No. I want to."

Onyx slowly but surely thread his fingers through her loosely curly hair. He watched a shiver trail up Demi's spine.

He began at the bottom as Demi toyed with her fingers. They sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes.

But silence never lasted long with Demi, he was learning.

"What changed your mind so abruptly?"

Onyx almost flinched at the question.

He stopped as he came to a knot, using his fingers to try and detangle it gently.

"My resolve has been weak since we found each other. I wanted to bury myself inside of you while you sat on top of me," he admitted. His face turned red as the words tumbled out without thinking.

Demi audibly squeaked and both of them were glad they weren't facing each other.

"F-Fuck, I shouldn't have... I didn't mean that. I mean I did but-"

"It's okay, Onyx," Demi whispered.

He sighed loudly as he went back to brushing. "I feel the same way as you, I promise. You're the first thing I think of when I wake up and the last when I fall asleep. And everything in between, I feel insane," He husked as he was audibly conflicted with this change.

"I haven't been around women almost my entire life. It's complicated. I found my group when I was around 15, been with them since. I can't... I don't know how to give you what you deserve. Physically or emotionally. I'm dangerous, Demi. If I hurt you, I'd have no reason to go on."

Demi's breath hitched as Onyx's words were soft and insecure. Just as he reached halfway through her locks of hair she pushed his hand away.

His heart stopped momentarily, was she going to reject him? Did he mess up too much to fix it?

She turned towards him and scooter closer.

"I don't think you'd hurt me. Not intentionally- excluding the past couple days." She openly snorted. He frowned worriedly.

"And I've never been close to other people, either. Other than family. I s-struggle a lot with communication. But I want to try and learn with y-you. I'm really lucky to have grown up in the family I'm in, but I feel like my life has been taken over by the type of people that attacked us today. I've never had my own person that's separate from it all." Demi gripped his hand meekly, holding it in her lap.

Slowly he nodded as he looked at her hesitantly, "I think... we can do it."

Demi smiled, "We can."

Onyx moved cautiously, giving her ample time to push him away before he turned her back to him. He slid closer so she was snug between his thighs, dutifully going back to brushing her hair.

He touched and held her hair as if it was threads of gold, he could feel how proud she was of her hair and the length.

He reached the hair by her ears as he asked, "Why do you keep your hair so long?"

"Hm... I read Rapunzel when I was really young. And it was one of my favorites. As well as the Elves, they always keep their hair so long and it's so pretty. I always wanted to be like that. Why, do you think it's too long?" He could practically hear the frown in her question. Onyx shook his head.

"No, I like it."

He watched her sigh in relief. He was almost frustrated, his opinion on her looks should be minuscule to her. She was as pretty as a picture. She was a goddess, especially standing next to him. He looked demonic next to her.

"W-Well I like you're hair too. I've never seen hair so dark." Onyx felt his face go hot.

"It's not anything special," he muttered.

"No, I've never seen a wolf that looks like you before," Wolves were often tan with warm toned hair. Onyx was ghostly pale, like white personified, some of his veins grey and visible underneath his skin. His back eyes were often compared to empty voids that matched his pitch black hair. It almost had a navy blue tint, it was so dark.

Onyx felt himself sneer at the comment before she continued.

"I think you're handsome."

Onyx felt faint, he swears. Never had someone called him appealing, let alone handsome.

"You don't have to say that," he said under his breath.

"It's true!" Her soft voice insisted. Onyx had just been finishing as she turned to him once again. He choked on his spit as she climbed to straddle him.

She brushed her thumbs over his cheek bones, she thought his bone structure was a work of art.

"You're skin is like porcelain. And I noticed when you get angry you're veins turn darker," she tilted her head as she glanced down at his muscular arms. She bit her lip at how attractive he was.

He groaned quietly as he leaned closer.

"I think that's really interesting, it makes you more intimidating. But you don't scare me." Onyx couldn't help but lean into her touch.

"You're eyes are pretty, I always feel like all of your attention is on me when you look at me. And I've never seen someone's hair that sat so perfectly."

He has shorter hair that's obviously grown out a little. He constantly pushed his hands through it, making it look perfectly swept back since the sides were shorter than the top.

She smirked as she watched him turn red, "And it's so easy to see you get flustered. I've never seen someone turn pink so many times in one night."

Onyx's heart was fluttering and his stomach was turning, he didn't even know what to do with himself.

His breaths came out heavy, a mixture of lust and nervousness.

"You're so out of my league," he breathed out.

Demi also flushed in the face, harder to see due to her brown skin.

"And you're so pretty," he mumbled. He loved her skin, how it glowed no matter what lighting it was. And how it contrasted his obnoxiously white skin.

Onyx didn't know how to compliment her, he didn't know how to convey just how beautiful he thought she was. That she was out of this world and every person on this planet is probably praying to every god out there to get an ounce of her flawlessness.

But, as if she could already read his mind Demi smiled slowly.

Maybe it was because he was a stuttering mess, or bright pink as she put it. But she smiled and it made his body go fuzzy.

Slowly, she sat down on him. She yawned quietly and he snapped out of his reverie.

"You have to sleep," he wrapped an arm around her waist.

Onyx turned them so that she was laying on her back. Not wanting to give her the wrong idea he quickly sat back up over her.

Demi sighed contently into her pillow, watching him stand and reach for pain medicine left out.

Onyx passed it to her along with a glass of water. Demi pouted but with a stern look from Onyx she obediently took it.

Onyx watched her for another moment as she got comfortable. "I'm going to leave now, I'll come see you in the morning. Goodnight, Demi."

She reached up her hand sluggishly. He quickly gripped hers and allowed her to squeeze his fingers.

He squeezed back playfully.

"Good first day of trying," Demi smiled up at him.

"Yes," he nodded with a small grin.

He watched her eyes slide closed and slowly let himself out.

:)) hope you enjoyed the fluff and the transition in their relationship!!

also!! i thought rlly hard about what exactly i wanted to say but i'm still not sure so i'll try my best lmao

through this series, Onyx's appearance will be brought up a lot. that's on purpose, and has to do with the plot.

but while im describing his hair i'm also aware a lot of people of color have black hair or naturally very dark hair. i've met a lot of people that say they're insecure about how dark it is bc they were picked on  about it or something similar. I don't want anyone to feel ostracized or singled out for black hair. that'd be very silly lmao i promise there's people with dark hair that exist in this fantasy world

the point is everything about Onyx looks unnatural. like something is off. and not in a dyed hair was either lololol. i can't go into too much detail but!! keep it in mind.

Idk why i ranted if u read all of that kudos, thank you. it just didn't sit right i had a lot of asian friends growing up that were teased for having such dark hair which was so stupid.  ahhh!! i'm done now hehe u may continue :))
