Onyx had spent the last ten minutes following the wisps of his mates scent. It popped up randomly and soon enough he found himself standing in a field of wild flowers.

Before his eyes he watched Demi teleport in front of him. She glanced up and shrieked at his presence, falling into the flowers.

"How did you know I'd be here?" She held her chest from the fright he'd just given her. She relished in the quiet his presence brought her.

"I could smell you here."

Demi shook her head in disbelief while she looked at him as if he was stupid, "smell me? I was in another freaking dimension what do you mean you could smell me?"

Onyx furrowed his brow, "What the hell do you mean you were in another dimension? Why the fuck did you go there?"

Demi was still processing there fact that Onyx could sense her while she was in a completely different realm. That had to mean something right? She'd never met someone who could do something like that.

"Demi!" he snapped at her.

Her head snapped up to him, she laid in the flowers. Onyx's lip twitched at the sight of her, fuck why was she so beautiful?

"I'm going to test something."

Suddenly she was gone again. Onyx shut his eyes at the bright light and also in annoyance, why couldn't this girl focus?

Just as he was about to open his eyes, he furrowed his brow. He caught her scent again, turning to face the left. He could almost make out her figure in there darkness.

He sneered as the light flashed again and opened his eyes.

He saw her right in front of him.

"You did it again! You knew where I moved."

He glowered down at her, "What's the big fuckin' deal?"

"I don't... exist to other people when I'm in the other place. My mothers tried, witches can sense each other but when I teleport I'm gone."

Demi leaned up onto her tip toes as she examined his pretty face. His dark hair fell in his eyes.

"That's fascinating..." Demi mumbled to herself while looking him over. Onyx's ears heated up, he'd never received such a compliment.

She raised her hand to move it but stopped herself. His gaze cut to her dainty hand in the air and glared at it.

She brought her thumb to her mouth and nibbled at her nail nervously. Her thoughts were running rampant.

"You don't like me much do you?" her voice was quiet.

Onyx was taken aback as the emotion in her face. Like his answer to this meant everything to her.

She knows. She knows. She knows.

His beast was raging in broken english about how smart his mate was.

He was mildly alarmed at the fact that she might feel like matebond strong enough to know about it. Was that normal? Wasn't he supposed to initiate it, nonferal species dont have the bond announced by their inner animal.

"This is a job," he grunted. "It doesn't matter what I think."

Demi visibly deflated. Her feet stumbled away from him with a small nod.

He wanted to smack himself as Demi walked away further into the field.

"Why're you here again?" She mumbled barely loud enough for him to hear.

He stuttered, why was he here? "We aren't done with the evaluation."

"I'm done. You can leave now," she flipped her hair over her shoulder as she turned away. He growled as she ignored him.

His mate was a brat.

Without thinking, he reached and grasped her arm, gently. He tugged her towards him, demanding her attention back on him.

She gasped as she was now facing him, his touch sending shock waves through her.

And once again without fail, his body acted on its own volition. He slowly ran his thumb over her pouty lips, examining the cut Sylvester had inflicted on her. Demi's wide eyes looked up at him, her pretty lips stained by her blood.

He'd never felt the need to obliterate Sylvester until now.

Demi glanced down to see her blood on his thumb, she hummed before licking it off him. His eyes were zeroed in on her pink little tongue.

"Pretty," escaped his lips. Demi shut her eyes tightly, the announcement going. straight to her head. Get it together.

Onyx fell silent as his thoughts spun out of control.

"If that's all you can leave now," she still frowned.

He bared his teeth in frustration, "You piss me off."

For the first time she looked angry. She wrenched herself out of his hold, "What is your problem? I haven't done anything to you, I can't help if I'm annoying!"

"Demi-" he cut himself off as he ran his hand through his hair.

He approached her but she kept stumbling back from him.

"Stop walking away from me!" he snarled at her.

Demi gave him a sharp look, "You're just doing a job- right? Leave me alone, Onyx. You're confusing me."

With that, she blipped away. And this time he didn't sense her near him.

He groaned in frustration before squatting down with his fists pressed to his temples. Onyx had lost track of the time, eventually he heard Bear's voice.

"Found him!"

Bear knelt besides him, checking him over. "We thought you were having another episode," Bear looked around. "Glad to see you're alright. Didn't know flowers were your scene though, bossman."

Onyx scoffed, smirking tiredly. Suddenly Bears face fell a little as the three others approached.

"Why didn't you tell us about her?"

Onyx sighed as he dug the heels of his palms into his eyes, "I didn't think she was actually my mate! It's supposed to be fucking impossible!"

Georgie had an angry furrow to his brow. "Even more of a reason to take action now, Onyx! I mean every witch we traveled to said you were mateless- Demi is a gift!"

All four of them nodded which annoyed him, they didn't understand.

"I wasn't made to have a mate. Not with everything that's happened, and what I still deal with." Onyx began trailing off into a grumble, images of Demi muddling his train of thought. Quincey began shaking his head at him,

"It's not fair to her, she doesn't even know of the bond."

"Oh I think she knows..." Onyx huffed.

Everyone gaped at him, "How the hell does she know?!"

"She's a smart little thing," Onyx hummed to himself.

"So we're going to be here for Gods know how long- and you plan to fight this bond? What happens when she goes into heat?"

Onyx's eyes widened momentarily. He knew very little of the mating process, resentful of it as he grew into adulthood.

"You'll drive yourself mad!"

Onyx growled in annoyance. "She's too much of a handful, I don't know how to deal with women. Let alone witches."

Sylvester openly scoffed, "I guess you wouldn't mind if I grew closer to her then? Since she's such a handful to you."

The black in Onyx's eyes began to bleed into the whites, he snarled. "Don't fucking test my control."

Suddenly he stood up, "We're done with this conversation. I have to meet up it's Demetri later."

In his mind though, he couldn't help but think- I have to apologize.
