Fourteen
Demi stared at herself in the mirror.
She had woken up an hour ago in discomfort. She had practically torn off her bandages, hating how they looked.
Now, she was looking over her outfit after a much needed shower.
She hummed as she examined the dress. It was very short.
She was quickly distracted by a loud blaring noise, she crouched down and held her ears. A quiet cry left her lips. She new it wasn't from this dimension, it was coming from the Void.
She teleported into the Void, wondering what was causing so much ruckus.
Demi opened her eyes slowly standing on her usual floating piece of land, the ground beneath her crimson red.
She frowned at what she saw, she saw creatures battling around her. The purple sky was a dark indigo at the moment. Her mouth gaped, she'd never seen it like this.
Demi swallowed hard as she teleported back to her room. She worried her lip in thought.
Was this because of the toxins on that arrow? A chirp drew her out of her theorizing, she sighed in relief as she saw Ollie.
"Hi buddy," she bet his furry head gently as he perched on her shoulder.
"What's going on at home?" she whispered to him as she walked to the kitchen.
Demi wished he could speak to her because he immediately began squawking.
"Not good huh?" She nodded as if she understood.
Demi was unaware that her entire family was in the kitchen. They watched her speak to her shoulder.
She glanced up to make eye contact with them. Slowly blinking.
"What's for breakfast?" she asked slowly.
"Pancakes with a side of crazy for you," Ezra snickered. Their mother quickly smacked him, it didn't stop Demi's face from falling. She did not like the word crazy.
She walked past her mom and siblings while warping an apple into her hand. She muttered a quick, "Not that hungry."
"See what you did Ezra!" Kekoa yelled behind her.
Demi gave her father a smile on the way out and watched him do a quick scan of her wound.
"Morning beautiful," he kissed her forehead as they passed one another. Demi hummed happily and waved while walking out of the door.
Demi strolled aimlessly, basking in the sun on her face. She jumped at the sound of someone calling her name.
Demi turned to see Sylvester. She gasped and spun to give him a tight hug.
"I'm so glad you're alright! I'm so glad! Thank you for protecting me!" Her cheek was pressed tightly to his chest. He chuckled and hugged her back lightly.
"Anytime. Besides, at the end it was more you protecting me."
Demi waved her hand casually, while seeing he had no visible injuries.
"So... Onyx came back looking pretty happy last night," Sylvester trailed off mischievously. "Well- about as happy as that man can look."
Demi scoffed and hit his arm. Before she glanced at him quickly, "He did?"
"Mhm, closest thing to happy I've seen since I met the man."
"You don't mean that Sylvia!"
"Cross my heart!"
They both giggled as footsteps approached them.
Demi stood straighter, turning her smile towards her mate. It widened.
Onyx approached them, shirtless. Her eyes got large as he was only in black sweatpants.
"I think you have things to do Sylvester," he cut his dark gaze to the Elf.
Sylvester grunted stubbornly but turned away, a parting wink at Demi.
They both watched the man leave, cutting their gazes to one another.
Onyx's breath hitched as he examined Demi's tight dress. Did it suddenly get ten degrees hotter? He was completely serious, as his sweatpants began to grow tighter.
Demi stared up at him, her bottom lip trapped between her perfect teeth.
"You look nice," he husked awkwardly.
Demi's smile was blinding however, bouncing happily.
He noticed the braid in her hair, reaching her lower thigh. He wondered how it was even possible for her to do that.
He stepped closer as he toyed with a loose, white strand.
He had an appreciative gaze, Demi leaning closer.
She took a small bite of her apple as he continued.
"Where's your bandages?"
"They were ugly so I took them off."
Onyx's eyes widened and cut to her's before glaring. "Demi," he growled.
"I'm not putting more on," she crossed her arms with a hitch of her hips.
"It'll prevent infection," he grit.
Her head shook with a stern, no.
He snarled and tugged her closer by the bottom of her dress. Her breath hitched at the action.
Now there was only inches between the two.
"Don't start an argument with me Onyx," her voice was strong. "You won't win." For someone so sensitive she really could pick a fight.
He rose a strong brow as she challenged his Beast. His nostrils flared and he ran his tongue over his canines. She zeroed in on how big they were.
Demi watched him take a deep breath, the black in his eyes starting to bleed into the whites of his eyes.
"You looked upset when you were walking," he rasped out to distract himself from his Beasts anger.
She tilted her head, "You were watching?"
Onyx didn't meet her gaze but he nodded.
"My brother called me crazy, and something weird happened today with my magic."
He did meet her eyes at the mention of something weird. He knew very little about magic, all of it was weird to him.
"You're not crazy," Onyx grunted.
Demi nodded slowly as if she didn't believe him. Thanking him anyway.
They both glanced up to see Bear and Quincey sparring. Both walked in sync towards the two, they had to meet with Demi's father later. So, for now they'd distract themselves.
Demi glanced up, "Can I hold your hand?"
Onyx spluttered at the question, opening and closing his mouth as he tried to find an answer.
Demi figured she had to take it a step slower, "Can we hold pinky's? It can be secret."
For one of the first times he grinned down at her. Bear, who'd seen mid fight- was completely caught off guard and punched hard in the face.
He yelled out in the background as Onyx nodded yes to Demi. She didn't waste any time linking their pinkies together and shuddering at the sparks his touch gave her.
