Onyx jolted up as a howl sounded just as dawn broke. They'd been back from Endorphin for two weeks now.

He snarled and threw himself out of bed, gripping pants as he listened over the pack link for what was happening.

Demi sat up abruptly, rubbing her eyes groggily.

She could feel the tension rolling off her mate, she rocked forward before teleporting to grab him.

Demi flashed above him to grip his shoulders and promptly teleported them to wherever the howl came from.

She was still half asleep, in only underwear and her mates shirt as they landed at the west border.

Her eyes widened when she saw a small pack of wolves attacking their warriors.

Onyx snarled and didn't hesitate to leap into action, throwing himself into the small but bloody battle.

A long sword slid into existence, the handle falling into her palm as Demi got to work. She took a running start, dropping into a slide to send the knife slicing through a wolfs belly.

She flitted through the terrain, slicing the heads off of attacking wolves.

Onyx hadn't shifted himself, tearing the limbs off of the weak wolves around him in his human form.

Their packs warriors flooded and aided them.

Demi stabbed through an ashy blonde wolf near her, before being tackled down just as she turned.

She yelped as teeth gouged into her shoulder, Demi snarled and pounded her fist into the wolfs back.

She managed to kick them off, right into the furious arms of her Alpha. Above her, Onyx tore off the wolf in half.

A ground shaking roar tore from his chest as he tossed the body parts aside. All of the attackers left, visibly stumbling in fear.

Demi tossed a dagger past Onyx, killing someone approaching him from behind.

There were three attackers left, they quickly surrendered as they shook.

They're patrolling wolves that had howled for their Alpha didn't hesitate to shift and pin them down.

It was Sami and Levi.

When they were restrained, Demi sat up slowly.

Onyx fell to her side as he stared at her blood soaked shoulder in panic.

"Take a deep breath, I'm fine," she cradled his cheek with her uninjured arm.

He snarled, pulling the shirt away to look at the large gash. He began lifting her up, gaze zeroing on Levi.

"Pup," He grunted loudly.

Levi visibly deflated at the name, Demi narrowed her eyes at her mate.

"You know he doesn't like that," she scolded.

Onyx sneered at her as he approached the young wolf. 

"I'm trusting you to get her to the doctor."

Levi's eyes widened, nodding quickly as he reached for his Luna.

"I'll get her there, Alpha."

Onyx nodded begrudgingly, pressing a hard kiss against her lips.

"I'll find out what's going on," he promised her.

She hummed with a tired smile, "Okay I'll go back to bed."

He watched Levi walk her further into town, "You know my shoulders hurt not my legs." He scoffed as he heard her murmur to the boy.

"Alpha carried you so I'll be carrying you, Luna."

He turned back to the three wolves they'd captured, seeing the Beta twins shift besides him.

"What are we gonna' do about them bossman?" Quincey yawned with crossed arms.

Onyx rubbed his jaw as he glared at the pathetic excuses for wolves, "Fuck 'em up."

Onyx cleaned blood from his hands while gritting his teeth.

What a way to start the fucking day.

All of the attacking wolves had now been killed after they got the answers they wanted.

Onyx tossed a match onto the pile of bodies, nose twitching at the smell of their burning corpses.

He'd been satisfied that his patrol was efficient enough to prevent an attack on the entire pack like he assumed they had planned. Levi and Sami did a damn good job at fending them off before back up came.

To be safe, he doubled the wolves out on patrol. Their numbers were growing week by week and he could finally spare the people.

He approached his front door and heard voices.

"Levi go away. Go to bed, it's been like three hours," Demi gurgled sleepily. Her voice sounded muffled and he smirked.

"Not until Alpha comes back, no can do Luna."

"I think you have a boy crush on my mate, Lev. It's okay though, I don't blame you. I do too."

Onyx snorted before finally shouldering the door open slowly. He glanced up to see Demi lying bandaged on the couch.

Levi was sitting alert, a few feet away from her.

"Did everything go alright?" The strawberry blonde asked.

"Everything's fine now. We're upping patrol, I think this is going to become a trend."

Demi lifted her head up groggily, only to have Onyx lift her upper half into his lap as he sat.

She quickly went limp once again, practically drooling on his thigh from how tired she was.

"Why did they attack? Did they talk at all?"

Onyx looked at the teenager, "They're from one of the packs in the region. I think you mentioned it as one that attacked you and your brother. They're pissed 'cause members are leaving their pack to come here. Seeing as we're beginning to get members from every pack around here and we run things a little.. different than them I doubt they'll be happy. So just be prepared, don't hesitate to go for the kill while your patrolling." His voice was stern as his onyx eyes met the teens steel gray ones.

Levi nodded determinedly as he stood up, "I'll leave you be now that you know Luna is alright. I'll see you later, Alpha."

Just as he opened the door to leave, Onyx called out.

"Hey kid," Levi glanced up. "You did good."

He grinned proudly and nodded before exiting.

Demi smiled into his sweatpants, "You're so cute. You'll be such a good dad, baby."

Onyx blushed as he brushed his hand through her hair, down to her shoulder.

"What'd the doctor say?"

"'S fine. Just a flesh wound, be healed by the end of the week," she slurred.

"I hate waking up so early," Demi suddenly groaned in annoyance.

"Well the next time we're attacked I'll be sure not to wake you up, princess," his tone was mocking.

She slapped his gut, but he felt her smile against his leg.
