Fifty Four
Onyx sighed as Levi followed him around the pack grounds.
The mutt had taken a liking to him and when Demi saw she had visibly lit up. She cooed about how it was because Onyx was such a good Alpha.
If the compliment hadn't gone to his head, Onyx was sure he'd have snapped by now.
Levi was asking questions about when he could contribute more to the pack. They had discussed patrol on the borders with a partner.
"You need training first."
Levi frowned, "I've gone this long without formal training. I've survived isn't that training enough?"
Onyx sneered, "No."
The Alpha took a deep breath, trying to keep himself from being irritated.
"The pack needs you at your best. I can't send you out there only to have you get hurt. You're a kid. And you're going to training."
Levi grumbled, watching the Alpha stop his paperwork. He followed Onyx to the kitchen, watching him wash his hands.
Onyx felt uncomfortable under the stare.
"Where is your brother?" He blurted, trying to think of a reason to get him to leave. The boy had been in his home since the morning.
"You wash your hands a lot. Are you a germaphobe? And Romans out with Delilah on a date."
Onyx rubbed his hands dry, "I have a mate. I wash my fucking hands if I'll be touching her."
Levi squinted as he thought about what his Alpha was saying.
"That's TMI, Alpha."
Onyx threw his hands up, slapping one over his eyes.
"So when can I start training?"
Onyx was ready to pull his hair out. "Why do you need to go to training? Aren't you like 18? You're in a new pack, go do something that kids do."
He leaned against the counter while staring exasperated at the strawberry blonde wolf.
Levi shrugged, "I owe it to you for taking in my family. I'm not going to sit around and waste the opportunity. I want to repay it to you and Luna."
Onyx relaxed a little, his glare softening slowly. "You don't have to make shit up to me or Demi. We're happy to have you, Levi. Go... do something with your life," Onyx waved in the general direction of outside.
"Well.. you're wedding is coming up so I can have fun then, boss."
Onyx felt anxiety seize him once more. The wedding, they spoke about bridezillas but Onyx may have a leg up on them.
He craved for everything to be perfect for Demi. They'd both gotten the plans cemented and now it was a matter of execution. He hounded on the few people involved, Elora coming around to help. The two of them were everyone's worst nightmare together when it came to this wedding.
Demi was a ray of sun who couldn't care less as long as she got to walk down the aisle to her mate.
But Onyx couldn't let anything go wrong.
"You're starting to sweat-" Levi was cut off as Demi teleported in the house. She yelped in surprise at the sight of Levi, who jumped at the bright flash of light.
She attached herself to her mates side, cheek squished against his chest. Once she'd taken a deep breath she smiled at Levi.
"Hi!"
Levi grinned as well, "Afternoon Luna."
"Did you guys get important things done?" She craned her neck up to look at Onyx who quickly pressed a quick kiss to her lips.
She hummed as he nodded in response, eyeing the pretty witch as she began pulling things out to make lunch.
"Did you do anything interesting today Luna?"
She hummed but paused abruptly as she went to cut strawberries- as if remembering something.
She rolled her lips before shaking her head, "Nope."
"Demi," A low voice growled.
"I went into the north woods," she blurted only to slap a hand over her mouth. "Dang it, why'd I say that?"
"Demi!" Onyx snarled as he tugged her to look at him.
"Those woods are too dense, we're setting up precautions to avoid any ambush from that way. What the hell were you doing in there?"
Demi pouted up at her mate, holding onto his belt.
"It's not safe there Luna, when we lived alone any attacks always came from those woods," Levi piped up as he sat at their counter.
"I heard music," she mumbled while staring distractedly at Onyx's lips.
Onyx tensed.
"What kind of music, Demi?"
"Like... like magic music?" She tilted her head in confusion, what else would she be talking about?
He rubbed his brow irritably. She continued, "I followed it and it left. I was better when I searched I promise, but it was really loud and new magic messes with the void."
Demi jutted her lip apologetically. He sighed loudly, holding her cheeks in both hands. He brushed his thumb under her eye, "It's okay baby."
"You have to come get me or one of the boys to come with you. Now we have to go look for it, you've gotta show me where you heard it."
Onyx grabbed Demi's coat, wrapping it around her tightly.
"Can I come?" Levi asked hopefully.
Onyx shut his eyes for a moment while rubbing his face for the hundredth time.
"Fine."
~
Demi held Onyx's arm tightly to her chest, trying to remember where she heard the music from in the woods.
Everyone was quiet for the most part, letting Demi try to listen but she mostly focused on the sounds of the forrest.
She hummed as birds chirped, her glazed eyes looking over the dense terrain.
Onyx was beginning to regret taking her back out when obviously her magic was acting up. He grumbled lowly, the vibration of his chest often calming her down.
Levi kept an eye out, scanning the area and inhaling deeply to check for any scents.
Demi suddenly perked up, the same whimsical melody sounded. It was chimes, twinkling quietly.
She teleported a few yards ahead, brows lifting in surprise.
"It's back," Demi rocked forward eagerly and glanced back at Onyx. She waited for him to grip her hand before leading him through intricate twists and turns.
It was a few minutes, Onyx watching carefully and keeping Levi as well as Demi close.
"It sounds harmless," Demi observed.
"We've never came across anything harmless, baby. It's always a damn fight."
She huffed at his negativity, before getting distracted when she saw something move in the distance.
She furrowed her brow when she saw a flash of pink, Demi's shoulders fell when she realized what was going on.
She watched a bright pink creature jump from tree to tree. It resembled a panther, it had no eyes but she watched it inhaled deeply.
The panther creature was not very large, probably about fifty pounds as it had two tails and seemed to be able to jump and defy gravity.
She hadn't seen anything like it but knew it was from the Void. This has all been a misunderstanding.
Onyx gripped her hand tightly and she felt him tense.
She peaked up sheepishly and saw her mate and Levi staring at the pink creature.
Her hazel eyes widened.
Demi whipped her head between the two, looking back and forth frantically.
"Y-You... can you see that too?" Demi balked. She saw the creature out the corner of her eye peak up at the sound, it disappeared once again in a puff of pink smoke.
Demi's world was spinning, and not because of her magic.
Did that just happen? Did they really see something that she could see?
"Oh my gosh... Holy crap! Did that just really happen- you actually saw it? I'm going to pass out. I can't believe you saw what I saw!" Demi turned towards them while waving her hands frantically.
Onyx had come out of his shock, eyes darting to his frazzled mate.
She trailed off mid sentence as her eyes rolled back and she went limp.
"Holy shit," Onyx and Levi both leapt to break her fall.
"Is she okay?!" Levi freaked out as Onyx lifted her up.
The Alpha grunted as he held her close, "She does this sometimes..."
Onyx was shaken as well, never seeing anything close to what he'd just witnessed. He had a glimpse into what his mate saw everyday.
He couldn't imagine trying to prove your sanity every day of your adolescent life, being called crazy. Until one day, two other people see exactly what you've been talking about out of nowhere.
"I have to get her home, head over to Georgie's. We'll see you tomorrow," Onyx left no room for discussion.
Later when Demi sat up quickly, she felt a lange hand press against her chest.
"Lay back down, princess."
She grumbled lowly, confused as she saw Onyx by the bed.
"I had a weird dream."
Onyx pursed his lips in thought, almost tempted to let her believe it was a dream.
One look at her pretty face and he crumbled, he groaned lowly. "It wasn't a dream, Dem. We saw whatever that was from the void."
She jolted up and looked at him alarmed, "W-What does that even mean? Did I do something wrong... no one's ever- ever been able to see anything and-"
He swooped down and kissed her slowly, forcing her to pause for a moment. She whimpered as he sat down in front of her, tugging her thighs into his lap.
He pulled away and rest his forehead against her own, "Take a deep breath, pretty girl." He massaged her thighs firmly as her dress rode up.
"I talked to your mom while you were... sleeping. She said she'll look into it but it may be a combination of our bond and the pack bond. Your magic obviously stems from your consciousness. But the way the wolf pack links work is connecting that consciousness to everyone involved. I think your magic is just diluted through the connection and sent out to everyone."
He brushed her long hair behind her ears, watching her reactions. Demi had her lips jutted as she took in the information.
"So... I didn't do anything wrong?"
"No, you could never."
"Will this mess with the pack at all? I don't want to bother anyone," she worried her hands between them and he held them tightly.
"Demi stop worrying so much. I doubt this isn't anything we can't handle. Don't worry about the pack they'll have to get used to your magic eventually, they can fuck off if they have a problem."
Demi gasped and hit his chest lightly, "You can't say that." She whispered while trying to hide her smile.
He smirked down at her, "We have a big week coming up. I don't want you stressing."
Demi nodded and kissed him gently, clutching his face to squish his cheeks.
Onyx pulled away slowly, "You're sister is in the kitchen. She wanted to check on you and I have to go to a stupid meeting."
"Sometimes I wonder why you wanted to be Alpha, silly," she giggled as he helped her stand up.
"Shit, me fucking too baby."
When entering the kitchen, Demi was engulfed in a tight hug from her older sister.
Onyx kissed her goodbye quickly, nodding at Kekoa before leaving reluctantly.
Kekoa sat her down at the counter and stared at her cheekily.
Demi glanced around awkwardly, "Did I miss something?"
Kekoa rest her chin on her hands, grinning widely, "I'm just taking in the glow of a soon to be bride. I wanted to help you with any extra details before next week. Actually, less than a week! And I heard you had a bad day, so I wanted to help out my little Mimi." She pinched her younger sisters cheek playfully.
Demi giggled and swatted at her, "It's okay. Just some weird stuff happened today. But I am excited about the wedding so we should talk about that."
Kekoa smiled and began making tea for the both of them.
"Mom said you guys were going to Endorphin after. Ready for the honeymoon?" Kekoa wiggled her brows.
Demi flushed and nodded while mixing honey into her tea.
"I have a question that everyone's been betting on," Kekoa leaned next to her to speak as if asking a secret.
Demi furrowed her brow but nodded slowly.
"Is Onyx any good in bed? I mean I believe all men are incompetent in knowing how to make a woman feel good but me, mom, and Imani have been speculating. On one hand, he's an inexperienced brute of a man- it's not like he was fucking anybody deep in the woods half wolf half man. Ya know?"
Demi's hair flew up in embarrassment, sparks flying around her head.
"On the other hand! The motherfuckers obsessed with you. And even though all boys are dumb, he's a smart dumb. Sometimes. And ya know, he big and strong I'm sure he's packin-"
"Kekoa!" Demi screeched as she tugged her hair down.
Kekoa cackled, "So what'll it be, pipsqueak? You gonna give me the deets or let me doubt your mates sexual abilities?"
Demi's face was flaming, staring wide eyed at her older sister. She'd always been on the investigating end, never being questioned about her own sex life.
"H-He's good," she fisted her dress bashfully.
"Good? Like mediocre?" Kekoa smirked as she could feel Demi close to cracking. Demi was absolutely terrible at keeping secrets.
"Like... like amazing good?" Demi muttered in more of a questioning tone. How did she explain without going into too much detail?
The younger witch licked her lips, she spoke barely above a whisper. "I mean... like you said he's pretty obsessed. He doesn't really like to stop, once he gets started and stuff. And he always listens to me about stuff I like."
Kekoa squealed quietly, "So you're saying good, good."
Demi laughed a little, "Yes. Good, good."
Just then Onyx pushed through the door, holding a folder as he looked to be rushing.
"I forgot a file-"
He glanced up and saw his mates that was still sticking up in the air, her face flushed even with her brown skin.
Kekoa covered her mouth to stifle her giggles.
Onyx slowed a little with a confused scowl, one that Demi thought was handsome.
"You alright baby?" He shot her a glance as he passed her to go to his office.
She nodded quickly, her head bobbing up and down as she brought her tea to her mouth. She gulped down the hot drink to try and look normal.
He came back into the kitchen, kissing Demi's cheek as he got ready to leave once again.
"You're sure you're okay?"
His dark eyes stared down at her while Kekoa piped up.
"She's fine, just bragging about how great you are."
Onyx's face turned red and he glanced down at Demi in surprise.
"I wasn't bragging," she grumbled as she kept her eyes on her cup.
"I don't know Demi, you were talking about how great sex is it sounded kinda braggy."
Demi's hair flew right back up.
She felt Onyx's chest rumble, her wide eyes meeting his. He stared down at her heatedly.
"S-She was asking I wasn't bragging!"
"You don't wanna' brag about me baby? Я все время хвастаюсь тобой."
I brag about you all the time.
With their matebond, she could now translate his russian easier.
She completely turned to him in her stool, eyes wide as she blubbered.
"N-No! I-I just didn't want you to think I was telling everyone," she gripped his belt needily. "You know I love it, it's just embarrassing," She whispered the last part as she starred up at him with her pretty eyes.
Onyx himself had a large blush over his face, but tried to hold back his smirk.
"How bout you show me later, yeah?"
Kekoa stuck out her tongue, regretting her instigation.
"Okay go away now, Onyx. I regret all of this already."
Onyx scoffed at her as Demi flipped her sister off with a frown.
The Wolf bid them both goodbye soon enough, leaving Demi with an intense look that had her swooning.
"You guys are gross, when me and Lacey have our baby you guys have to be pg 13 at least," Kekoa chuckled.
"When do you get to pick her up?" Demi lit up as she was quickly distracted.
"In a couple days, we're all set with the house and paperwork. We'll be able to bring her to the wedding," Kekoa gushed as she craved to finally hold her baby.
"It'll be a big day for everyone," Demi reached and squeezed her sisters hand.
