the only human
A cold but gentle veil of darkness surrounded him. He could hear vague voices in the background, but could not see what they were saying and tried to open his mouth, but it was as if he had been sewn shut. He could not move either. Panic he tried to breathe - and succeeded. As he sucked the air deep into his lungs, he was relieved. At least something that was normal. He breathed. Suddenly he could hear something clear. A dark voice crystallized coldly from the murmur of voices: "He's awake!" He wanted to wince, but the strange vacuum in which he was trapped did not allow it. "How do you know that, Kahin?" A female voice asked. "I am Ichain. We hear the thoughts and feelings of living beings around us, with more or less effort, depending on how weak they are, "the cold voice said. "And yours are very inappropriate," he added. "This man feels trapped and afraid. He has no memory. My respect, Professor Hunanik. You made it. "-" This man's name is Lucas. At least that was on his funny little card, the ... identity card! "
Lucas - as he was apparently called - was flooded by an infinite number of questions. Who were these beings? Where was he? What the hell was an Ichain?
"His mind is very confused," the cold voice added, and Lucas could hear the mean grin from his voice. Suddenly the fear was there too. He tried hard to remember anything, but it did not work. What did you do with him? He wanted to get out of here! Away from those mean voices talking about him as if he were a strange experiment in a lab. His whole hope was that this was just a very crazy dream. But it felt so real. "Aren't we going to get him out of the vacuum of consciousness?" The woman's voice asked with a worried undertone. "Yes!" Said the third voice, the one that had called his name. "Then we can ask him some questions about the past world. Elaine, would you be so kind and get three students from the library to help? "
Students? Library? Where the hell was he?
Lucas could hear three more voices talking in confusion. Then he heard the beeping of devices and tapping on buttons. "Can I help you, Professor?"
"Yes, please. Enter the codeword into the Ellypsor 75. "
The many unknown terms combined with machines and the fact that they wanted to wake him up from something made Lucas panic. Maybe something would go wrong! And even when he woke up, he had to deal with these creatures. "Calm down," the professor said. It was the first time he had addressed Lucas directly. "Everything will be fine." He tried to breathe calmly and not panic. Everything will be alright, he told himself. He heard an electric hiss and then he felt a heavy electric shock through his veins. Lucas opened his eyes and screamed in fear.
The next time Lucas opened his eyes, he was lying in a comfortable bed that hovered at about 50 meters above the ground. He screeched and got up in panic. Several tubes were connected to his arm and he saw other beds floating around in the air. That's just a crazy dream!, he tried to convince himself. Panic floated through his veines, he clung to the bed as it began to move. "What's happening? Where am I? "He shouted, but got no answer but the beeping of devices. His bed floated into a single room and landed in front of a table. »Welcome to the hospital of the A352 spaceport also called: visent. It is the Ichainian word for recovery, "said a tinny voice from nowhere. Suddenly the door opened and a ... being entered the room. It had four slender legs and shimmering sheds. On a sinewy, shingled neck sat an elongated head with narrow nostrils and large, purple eyes. The mouth, however, was lower down the neck. Despite everything, the creature had an abstract beauty about it. Lucas did not know how to react. He felt nausea rising in his stomach, but somehow he felt himself slowly calm down.
The creature smiled gently. "Hello, I'm Igarina. The professor has already told me about you, but you are actually even more amazing than I imagined. He said you must have a lot of questions. "Lucas had to wipe the sweat from his brow. It had turned strangely warm in the small room. The appearance of the creature, or Igarina, had thrown him off track more than he wanted to admit. He knew now that this was not a dream. Even his crazy brain could not do that. "W-where am I?" He stuttered. "You're in a spaceport hospital right now. The professor was on an excursion at the time of your awakening and had to stop here because of you. He saved you. Your planet was burned by your sun about 30 million years ago and your entire species was destroyed, except you. "Lucas could not breathe. "I can not remember." Was the only thing he could bring out. Igarina smiled sympathetically. "Yes, unfortunately that's one of the side effects of freezing. But this was the only way you could safely survive the explosion and the journey through the elbow hole without being torn to shreds, "she said. With a headache, Lucas returned to his bed. All these new terms overwhelmed him. In addition to that, the information that he was the only surviving human was believing that he lived 30 million years in the future and was talking to an alien. A desperate laugh scrabbled in his throat and made his way upstairs until he finally sat there, making noisy noises. "I can not believe it! I'm in psychiatry right? "He grinned. Igarina shook her head sympathetically. "You need to get used to it, I understand that," she said. »Program Iva, Please take him to a single room with a view of the spaceport. And give him some Informative Visions about life in the intergalactic space, "she said, her eyes still on Lucas. "Stop!" He shouted. "I have more questions!" "Iva will answer them. Turn to her, "Igarina said. Then she left the room and left him behind.
The time in the spaceport passed like a raging river without end. Lucas had no idea how long he had been here, but it felt like an eternity. The watch hovering on a small screen above his wrist showed him '210.66.7' ig.rz. but Lucas did not know what it meant. Despite the fact that he already looked at many "visions" that were something like movies, only that you were in the middle of it, about the intergalactic space system and still he had the feeling to know nothing. Lucas' eyes wandered to the darkened glass panes. He stood with wobbly legs, for the first time in a long while, and staggered through the air toward the window, realizing there was a different gravity than on Earth. Now he wanted to explore the room, saw a narrow screen on the dark wall, and stumbled there. And Lucas was right, there were strange signs on the screen that he could not decipher, next to it were two arrows, one up and one on downstairs. All or nothing, Lucas thought, clicking on the up arrow. The black wall moved to reveal the dark blue galaxy. When the wall was completely gone, Lucas's breath caught. He had seen and heard so much amazing and yet nothing was like that. He did not know where to look. Everywhere flew, whirred, drifted and floated a bit through the air, confused and somehow ordered. Now he knew why he was floating. There was no ground. He could not explain it to himself, but the only thing he saw were walls that changed on their own and flying machines and floating creatures. Not only those like Igarina were among them, no they were beings of all color and form, of all sizes, and none resembled another. Somehow he could hardly wait to find out more about this strange world. Curiosity burned deep inside him and he suddenly wanted to fly out there, in one of those ships, and communicate with those beings. He wanted to learn their language, he wanted to know everything about the intergalactic space system. Joy filled him. He knew this was his future. He may have no past, but he is now able to rebuild his life, to take his fate into his own hands, and write history as the only survivor of an extinct species.
The end.
