Chapter 64

"Kali. Stay true to you. You aren't going to be like them." Lola said. "They are only your half brothers after all. Your mother... Well I only knew her for a year, but I know she was a kindhearted person. She loved you, even when you weren't born. And, she told me to take care of you, she knew your father wouldn't be kind to you." Lola said. I looked at her. "My mother was like me?" I asked. "Yes. She was kind and compassionate. She also loved to knit, in fact, she knitted most of your baby garments." Lola said. A small smile came across my face. "I'm glad." I simply stated. Lola smiled and gave me another hug. "And don't worry hon, Meow and I will keep you in check." She said, then got up and returned to her cooking.
I sighed and stood up. "I'll be back for dinner. Right now, I need to go apologize to Levin for blowing him off earlier." I said, then ran to find my boyfriend.

Lola's POV
I don't know if I can leave. We can leave. It's just for a visit, but will she understand that? Will she feel left out? Oh, what if she thinks we are leaving her behind? "Lola?" Zoey's voice startled me out of my thoughts. "Oh, hey Zoey." I said, not looking up from the pot I was stirring. Zoey walked over to me and started kneading the bread dough that lay on the counter top. "What's wrong?" She asked, knowingly. "To be completely honest, I'm not sure. I know it's been a little while, but I'm still getting used to the idea my big sister had a baby. And that her baby lives with me." I said. "Or are you regretting not being there for her and not knowing she had a baby?" Zoey asked, studying me. "That too. It just seems like if she could have had some help..." Zoey cut me off. "Lola, stop worrying about what you could have done. As it is, you have a wonderful niece and sister here, and they love you. Just be glad Meow found you." Zoey said, then turned her gaze to the bread dough. "Biscuits?" She asked, and I nodded.

What was Lola thinking about?
