5. "Will you be my sugar mummy?"
SEUN
This is definitely not some restaurant. The address in fact brought me to a house. To say I was shocked is a statement, for in front of me is the famous Jeje Family Villa that everyone fawns about.
"Good evening, Sir. I am outside." 4pm signifies the commencement of an evening, right?
"Tell Security you have an appointment with me. They will let you in." There is something different about how he sounds on the phone. Focus, Seun. Get your mind out of the gutters.
"Alright, Sir. I will." I quickly end the call and get down from my car. I actually parked a few feet away from the premises so I don't get flagged for trespassing. Activating the lock, I make my way to the gate. On a second thought, I could just drive since I am going in, anyway.
I sigh and slap myself on the forehead before walking back to my car.
"Good evening." I smgreet the security personnel
"Good evening, ma'am." The security personnel that they have here do not even look like those guys from the numerous security agencies here in Nigeria; the ones that wear uniforms and are not armed, only armed with catapults. Those onea are gatekeepers, to me, and not security. Anyway, these guys were on some State Security, High Intelligence level.
"Please, I have an appointment with Mr. Adedamola Jeje." I state. The buff one signals to someone inside the security house.
"Name, please." He asks.
"Dr. Seun Gomez." I answer and I watch them check their devices. The one in front of me presses a button on a device he is holding, and a protective shield emerges from the ground, scanning my car. Wow.
"Clean. You can go in, ma'am." He states.
"Uhm, could you help with direction?" I ask him.
"Alright." The description he gives is a little vague, but I was thankfully able to navigate through the compound to the place.
To be honest, I was marvelled by what I saw. The whole place screams wealth; looks like those monumental places one sees online and on Pinterest!
The security man that I met at this part was actually more friendly. His boss probably told him of my arrival.
"Good evening, ma." He greets me and I respond before finding a spot to park my car.
The first thing I notice is how neat the compound is.
"Sorry, I was cooking." He wipes his arm across his face and I gulp.
"It's okay." Even me could not believe how my voice sounds and the utter betrayal if it.
"Please, come in." He walks behind me to collect my coat and hand it on his rack.
During our conversation, I learnt that he graduated with a degree in Business Management and Administration in the UK at the early age of 20, he immediately pursued his MBA and before 23, had learnt the ropes on managing the family's engineering firm, relieving his dad of that duty.
According to him, it was difficult at first. Some persons found it hilarious to bow to the reign of a 23 years old. According to them, the 'Britco' child had no knowledge on how to run things in the country. They had underestimated him, and he understood their reservations.
He was smart enough to not be intimidated by it, but instead, work to gain their trust. Over the years, he did. He sometimes dines with those people, even though they are way older than him. He has gained their respect and they, his also.
"So what do you do asides lecture?" He asks.
"Taking care of my husband's crazy family." I wanted to say, but I just smile and respond with something else.
"Nothing, actually." I answer with a shrug.
"Why lecturing?"
"Why manage an engineering firm?" I shoot back. He runs his finger tips along his stubble and smiles.
"Smooth, Dr. Gomez." He laughs.
"Well, I guess with my lineage, it had already been in the works for me, managing a family owned business." He shrugs. Some other person would have used this as a ground to gloat on passion and why they love the whatever that comes with being in that field, not him, though.
"Alright." ...because I don't know of the right response to give him.
"So, back to you. Why lecturing?" He asks me.
"I guess it's something I found myself doing and grew to love it. I finished top in my class and saw myself in the Oil and Gas industry or some top engineering firm, honestly. I had just finished school and the Uni offered me a lecturing position. I took it in the hopes of getting a better job. Hated it at first, but have grown to love it now." I shrug and he nods.
"That's commendable." He states.
"Thank you, Sir."
"Sir, again?" He asks, looking at me squarely.
"Yes, please." I smile a little.
"So, Sir, onto the questions the students had." I state, stylishly reminding him and myself even, of the reason for which this whole dinner is happening in the first place.
"That can wait. Let's eat." He smiles. A tantalising smile that makes my knees weak. A knock sounds on the door and he rolls his eyes, sigh and stand up.
"Big bro. Good evening." I hear a voice yell from outside.
"Mayowa, what is it?" He asks the person.
"Won't you allow me in?"
"You are disrespectful, you this child." He chuckles and I begin to hear their voices draw near.
"I knew I could perceive a change in the atmosphere." The younger Jeje grins and quickly comes to stand in front of me.
"Good evening, ma'am." He takes my palm and drops a peck on the back of it.
"Hi, good evening." I send a smile his way. Such a young charmer.
"I was about leaving when I saw a car drive into this big man's house." He nods to his brother before turning back to me with a grin.
"The name's Mayowa, by the way." He winks and I close my face in second hand embarrassment for his older brother.
"Dr. Seun Gomez." I introduce myself also.
"Please, Doctor, I have just one request." He states and does not wait for my response before he opens his mouth to speak again.
"Will you be my sugar mummy? Take care of my heart?" He asks with a grin and I laugh, shaking my head. See this small child.
"Stupid boy. She's an academic Doctor, not a medical Doctor." Adedamola is approaching us as he speaks.
"Oh." Mayowa does a feigned surprise expression.
"She could still be my Sugar mummy, though." He shrugs.
"Will you keep your hands to yourself." Mr. Jeje slaps his hand off mine and grabs him by the ear, dragging him away. The young man keeps shouting 'ow!' in pains. The older brother did not budge. In fact, he was not bothered at all.
"Just because I asked your woman to be my Sugar mummy, you want to kill me." He shouts out, loud enough for anyone to hear. His woman? This one moving delusional. Lol.
"You are so dead, today." Adedamola says to him before I hear the door close.
"But I did nothing." He still argues.
"Just go to your parent's house." Seconds after, he joins me in the dinning room.
"So sorry for that drama." He states with a scowl.
"It's nothing. I actually like him." I state with a shrug.
"Your younger brother."
"Obviously. He's the last child, hence his crazy behaviour." He tries to excuse but I giggle a little.
"Don't worry. I like the young man. He is fun."
"I am more fun." He states, locking gazes with me. I clear my throat and shift in my seat.
"Umm...the rice, please." He passes the cooler to me and ensures his fingers brush with mine. The look in his eyes say it all. I ignore it and pick up the serving spoon to dish out some food on my place. I finish up and notice him staring at me.
We both start eating. I could feel the tense atmosphere. It becomes worse when he starts moving close to me.
"I am curious." He suddenly states.
"About?" I ask him.
"How it felt." He shrugs.
"I don't understand you, Sir." I truly have no clue what he's aiming at with this question.
"When you dropped from heaven. How did it feel? Did it hurt?" Just imagine this grown man. I just shake my head and look at him.
"I have no comments, honestly." I try so hard, but the chuckles eventually come out. Where exactly did they get these two Jeje males from?
"See, I made you laugh." He shrugs.
"No. Your pick up line is cheesy." I shrug.
"Alright, but hope you're enjoying your meal." He says.
"Yes, actually. Thank you." He made rice, gravy sauce and grilled chicken. It's really good. A knock sounds again.
"I swear, I will kill you, Mayowa." He grumbles under his breath and I laugh, this time, watching him march his way to the door.
