Chapter 15
When we reached the blacksmith, I saw a big viking with a peg leg and a hook. That must be Gobber. "Hiccup! Nice to see you again! Have you decided to come back and work here?" Gobber asks. "You know that I can't with all of my Chief, but I have somebody who would love to work with you." Hiccup says.
"And who would that be?" Gobber asks. He finally sees me. "That would be me." I say. "How well do you work in a blacksmith?" He asks. "Well I was put in the blacksmith in my village since I was ten, I have been told that I am the best blacksmith my village has ever had, and can I please fix your tools and weapons?" I beg the pain of seeing them finally took over.
"Make me two dagger, a sword, and a mace." I nod and get to work. I make all of the handles first, that takes me ten minutes. I then make the dagger heads, sword head, and the mace head.
That takes me about a hour. Last but not least it takes me five minutes to but all the prices together, I take ten minutes to perfect them all. Hiccup is long gone, he left for something when I started. Gobber comes over to check on my progress.
"I am finished with all of them." I tell him. He picks them up and examines them. "These are perfectly made, and it took you way less time then I would take. Now let's see how well they do when I throw them.
He is about to throw the dagger when I stop him. "Can I throw the dagger, they are my favorite." I ask him. In response he hands me the dagger and I throw it right on the target. I frown I grab the dagger and examine it.
I go back to the furnace and heat it up. I realize that I made it uneven. I fix it then throw it again. It hits the bulls-eye. I smile happy with my work. I throw the other one, with ease. I smile that this one was good.
I threw the mace next. It went straight to the bulls-eye, but I went back and changed the handle. After I did that I threw it again this time the mace went faster and still hit the bulls-eye. Gobber and I did a quick sword fight.
I told him to stop, so I could fix the handle and change the length of the sword. After I fixed it I went back and continued, but this time the sword was lighter so it was easier to swing. I ended up throwing his sword across the room.
"You are an amazing blacksmith and you are great with all weapons." Gobber says to me. "Why thank you I have had a lot of practice making weapons. As for handling weapons, its one of the ways I got rid of all my problem. Not literally though, I didn't kill anyone I just meant the feeling when I handled the weapons is like when I am up on Nightmare. The most I have ever hurt someone is I scrapped there ear with the dagger. And I have never thrown an axe since most people prefer maces, or hammers." I ramble.
Gobber nods. "You can start working on the orders right now, and you can come back tomorrow to check for anymore orders that you can help with, you can leave when you finish the orders or when it gets dark, which ever comes first. But by the way that you made these I would have to say that fixing the weapons won't take you to long." He says and leaves.
I look to see that I have to make one mace, and fix one axe, two swords, and six daggers. I finish the orders by lunch. I go to the Great Hall to eat. I sit next to the gang. "So I heard that you started working with Gobber." Astrid said as I sat down.
"Yeah I did, and I love it, I have finished all of the orders, but I am going to go back and make sure that I didn't mess up when making them." I say. "How long will that take?" Astrid asks. "About ten minutes, fifteen at the most. Why?" I ask.
"Well Heather and I were wondering if you wanted to do some target practice afterwards." "Sure I would love to." I say. "Great I will tell Heather." Astrid says getting up and walking out. I smile.
I go back and finish up my work which doesn't take too long. I head to the academy to find Astrid and Heather talking about boys. "You have to ask him out Heather! He isn't Snoutlout, he isn't going to ask you out every time you see him!"
"How long did it take for you and Hiccup to go out? So, stop rushing things." "You are just stalling now!" "Fine, but what if he says no, or doesn't feel the same!" "Then he isn't worth it." I say walking in. "Thanks Crystal." Heather says.
"So who is this great guy? ... Wait let me guess, Fishlegs?" I say. "How did you guess?"She asks looking shocked. "It was easy, I am pretty sure that when Fishlegs was giving us a tour of Berk that neither of you knew I was there." I say with a small laugh.
"Do you like anyone Crystal?" Astrid asked me. "Not really, when I was younger I had this huge crush on this guy Rolph from my village, that was before I realized that he was a total douche bag." I say.
They laugh a little. "That is enough boy talk to last me awhile so time to throw!" Heather says. "I am telling you guys now that I have never thrown an ax before. It is the only weapon that I haven't handled before." I admit.
"Then show us what you got." Astrid says, giving me an ax. I aim and throw. I hit the target, but I hit left of the bulls-eye. I frown. "That was amazing for your first try. Try again." Astrid says.
I throw again and this time I hit a bulls-eye. I smile. I grab the axes from the target and throw again. Hitting the bulls-eye each time. I smile. Happy with myself. "You are a natural!" Heather says. "Thank you." I say with a small bow smiling. This makes the girls laugh.
We continue throwing axes for a half an hour, then I say. "We should throw daggers now." They both looked skeptical about it. "Oh come on its fun! Watched this!" I saw.
I grab my dagger from my belt and threw it. Then I really got going I did a forward roll while grabbing a dagger from my sleeve and throwing it at the target.
I throw a dagger while running. I throw one backwards and lastly I threw my dagger under Astrid's legs and it bounced off the ground and hit the bulls-eye.
I look to see all my dagger grouped on the bulls-eye. I grab them and but them all back. "That was awesome!" Astrid said. "I had a lot of time on my hands back on Norona." I shrug. "I have five daggers on my belt, two in each boot and one in each sleeve." I tell them.
"You try throwing dagger." I say giving them each a dagger, from their weapon cart. I like them and all but I will not let then touch these dagger.
They are the first thing that I ever got from my parents. See my mom just disappeared one night, when I was five, nobody has seen her since. I watch as they try to throw the daggers. "How do you do it Crystal, you make it look so easy!" Heather exclaims.
"I have had my daggers since I was five so mine have worn to how I hold them, but you can carve the handle yourself, but you have to be careful. I also have had a lot of time to myself since I got them. My first throw was like this." I say.
I make a face that a little kid would make when they concentrate, then I threw it backward behind me and fall forward. I stand up to the girls laughing. I take a bow. "How was my acting did it capture how terrible I used to be?"
"Perfectly!" Astrid said laughing. I laugh with them. I look up at the sky to see it was almost sunset. "I have to go. I promised Nightmare a sunset flight." I say walking out. "See you later." I say waving.
Once I finish with my flight. I land in the academy, expecting to see Heather feeding Windshear, but instead I landed in an empty Academy. I guess that she went for a quick flight with Windshear. I snuggle with Nightmare and quickly fall asleep.
For the next few days I keep seeing less people. I rarely see Hiccup, but he is chief so I didn't expect to see him much, Astrid and Heather are always in the woods somewhere. I haven't seen the twins except for at meals, and even that is rare. Snoutlout is nowhere to be found, and when I see Fishlegs he just screams and runs off. Even Gobber is missing more often.
After about a week of this I start to feel like they don't want me here. I see Fishlegs and before he can run away I grab him. "Fishlegs what is going on here?" I ask. "My name is Fishlegs and I am from Berk I know nothing!" Fishlegs says. "Fishlegs come on what is going on? Why are you avoiding me?" I ask.
"My name is Fishlegs and I am from Berk I know nothing." He repeats. "FISHLEGS!" "My name is Fishlegs and I am from Berk I know nothing!"
"Will you stop repeating yourself Fishlegs!" "My name is Fishlegs I am from Berk I know nothing!" "Fishlegs?" "My name is Fishlegs I am from Berk I know nothing!"
"Fishlegs I just want to know something. Are people avoiding me because they don't want me here? Because if they are I will just leave, they don't need to avoid me." Fishlegs was about to say something when I heard my name "Crystal!"
I look behind me to see Astrid coming towards me. I hear Fishlegs let out a breath of relief. "Hey Astrid. I was just asking Fishlegs a question and he kept repeating the same thing over and over again." I tell her. "I would have love to seen that, but I have something that I want to show you." She replied. "Really what?" I ask. "Its a surprise." She says.
She takes a piece of cloth and wraps it around my eyes so I can't see. "Follow my voice" Astrid says. I follow wondering what the surprise might be. It takes ten minutes to get there. Astrid takes off my blind fold, and I stand there in shock.
They had built me a hut. "I don't know what to say you guys! I love it! Thank you! It has a nice view of the sunset, and the ocean. It is amazing!" I say. "Come and look inside!" The twins say. I walk into my hut to find Nightmare bouncing around.
I have a couch, a chair, a fireplace, a few shelves, and my saddle bags hanging on a hook. I walk up the stairs to see a slab of rock by my bed which is for Nightmare, there is a rack for my weapons and shields, and a desk.
"This is all amazing! I love all of this!" I walk up to each of them and give them each a hug. "Thank you guys so much! This is a perfect spot for me!" I say. I have never had anybody do anything like this for me. I finally feel excepted.
