Part 7
I step into the house after Emil. Blue, white and red colors pop out at me. "Wow! This looks amazing!" I touch the flag hanging on his wall.
"That's Iceland's National Flag," he informs me. "I hold it very dear to my heart."
"Aw," i coo. "You're so cute, Emil!"
He puffs out his cheeks in response and crosses his arms. "Men don't like being called cute, you know."
"Sorry," i smile. "So, where is it that i will be sleeping?" He looks at me as i question him. He starts walking to the back of the house as i follow him through the halls. He stops in front of a single white door, and opens it. "This is where you will be staying," he says. "My room down the hall on the left if you need anything." I walk in and he closes the door behind me.
Wow... This is amazing! This is more than i have ever had!
I squeal in excitement at my room. On the left side, a walk-in closet stood. In the middle was my bed along with a nightstand. Then to my right, a vanity and dresser. I unpack the suitcase the had earlier brought from the Café, neatly putting everything in its rightful droor. After completing this task, I run out of my room and head straight for Emil's. I knock on the door and hear his voice. "Hm?"
"Yes, um, can i talk to you?"
"Sure, come in."
As i open the door, i see him sitting on his bed, snuggling with a bird. "Whoa, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt anything!" I cover my mouth to stifle the laughter rising in my throat. His eyes open wide in response. His gaze moves from the bird, to me, to the bird, and back to me before he inches away from his pet. "It's not what it looks like, I swear!"
"Alright, i trust you." I playfully smirk at his red face. "Anyways, i came here to thank you."
"Thank me?" He tilts his head to the side like a curious puppy. "What for?"
I hesitate, thinking about my answer. I find resolve, and walk over to him, joining him on his bed. "For making me feel... welcomed," i sit next to him, staring into his eyes. "For giving me a home," i wrap my arms around his neck and he stiffens in surprised. "For giving me people i can call my family."
I hold him in an embrace for a few seconds before releasing him. I look up at his face: eyes wide, cheeks red, mouth agape- what a priceless expression. "Sorry, too much?"
"N-No!" He instantly raised his hands. As i stare at him, he coughs and regains his composure. "No, that was good," he bashfully scratches the back of his head, contemplating on what to say next. "Ah! You haven't met Mr. Puffin," he holds up the small black bird, placing him in my lap.
I gaze at the small creature as it snuggles into my stomach. I pet the soft feathers of its head, and it moved a little higher up to my- uh...
Emil's eyes open wide with embarrassment as he pulls the puffin away from me and whispers, "H-Hey! We went over this, Mr. Puffin! No sexually harassing our guest!" His voice is a flustered whisper and i see the bird lower his head.
Staying here is going to be pretty interesting. I can tell already.
"It's alright, really!" I insist, a small blush on my cheeks. Emil looks back at me, and back at Mr. Puffin.
"I truly am sorry about him," he says as he puts the small puffin back in my lap. "He doesn't get too much female attention."
"I see," i pet the wings of the bird as it begins to snuggle into my stomach once more. "You don't have a girlfriend?"
"A-A girlfriend?" Emil stares at me with his violet eyes. "No, I don't."
"That's too bad. No one has caught your eye?"
"No, thats not it," he averts his gaze from me and looks out the widow at the vast meadows just beyond the glass.
I know it isn't any of my business, but i am a curious person. "What is it, then?" I press.
He hesitates before answering. "I have already given my heart to someone, that's all."
