9. How It Should Have Been
You hugged her when you saw her.
You weren't sure if it was because of how sad she looked or because you were proud of her for how hard you knew she fought.
That or you regretted missing the second half of it.
"I'm proud of you." You whispered to your friend as you squeezed a bit tighter, before letting go and taking your seat.
Ochaco smiled at you, her eyes that were a bit puffy, brightened. "Thank you Y/n-Chan." You loved hearing your name from your friends.

You weren't entirely sure how you thought the match between Todoroki and Midoriya would go, but
It was over quicker than you were expecting.
It seemed oddly emotional for the both of them. You had wished you were down there besides them. As much as you had your vices for Todoroki, that look on his face made you want to reach out to him.
But in all honestly, all you could think about was the way Midoriya barely held up against the wall—and how limp his arm fell to the side.
You had stood as soon as the arena was visible. The moment your eyes laid on him you wanted to jump down there and run to him.
Maybe if you had sat there beside him and talked to him, maybe he would have felt better?
But what could you have honestly done anyways?

"Kurogiri." Shigaraki would call out to him from time to time as he sat before his screen, intently watching the games go on before him.
He had played you match three time now. He clicked restart once more, watching the way your body moved.
"Yes, Tomura Shigaraki?"
"I don't understand this girl." His finger was shakily pointed towards the screen as he paused the video feedback. "She's so strong but there's no evident reason why."
Shigaraki leaned in closer to the screen and really took in the features of your face.
Your hair was pulled up, kinda bland, pretty frizzy. You always looked exhausted, but the bags under your eyes only highlighted the distantly familiar shape of them.
"There's nothing flashy about her." Tomura grumbled, but that wasn't entirely true.
"I guess most hero trainees make up for a weaker quirk by strengthening their bodies." Kurogiri offered, hoping to ease the anxieties this was causing the young man.
Shigaraki shook his head. "Her quirk isn't weak at all. If you watch very closely you can see the way she uses it to enhance her strength and speed." He unpaused his replay and watched the way you flipped. "It's unnatural."
That word rang through his head, unnatural...unnatural...unnatural.
That word...he had always associated it with his own quirk.
Why couldn't he see the connection?
What was he missing?
**
He found you in the hallway, nervously pacing.
He always found you doing something that would seem random to anyone who didn't know you like he did.
Sometimes he would find you laying on the floor, whether it was in the middle of a field of dandelions—or in class.
Other times he would find you walking around in a handstand or curled up in a ball, isolated in the corner of the room.
He didn't like seeing you like this, so uncertain and nervous.
Even with all of your oddities and insecurities, you always seemed so sure of yourself.
"You should have beat him." You said as you noticed him, slightly shaking your head.
Midoriya had tensed at your words. The boy was covered in bandages and his arms were constrained in a sling.
He wanted to reach out for you, pat your head and assure you that it would all be okay...but he couldn't.
No matter how badly he wanted to.
Because you were right, he couldn't win like you felt he needed to. He wish he could have been stronger to protect his body, and to make you proud.
"It wasn't about winning for me today." He shook his head. "I know I'm not strong enough to beat people like you, Kacchan, and Todoroki."
His sentiment sent heat rising to your cheeks.
Before you could protest, he was going on again. "I pushed him—further than I intended too. I could see he was hurting earlier." You could tell from the slight stammer in his words that he was hiding something from you.
"I also wanted you to have the chance, to prove yourself." He let out a lopsided smile.
You scoffed, crossed your arms, and looked away from the boy. "I don't need you to make opportunities for me. I can do it by my damn self." Your pursed lips only highlighted your embarrassment.
Izuku laughed softly. "I've never questioned that, Aizawa-San." Y/n, you longed to correct him.
You puffed out your cheeks and walked past him, ready to prepare yourself during Bakugou and Kirishima's fight.
"Go see everyone." You spoke with a nod. "And wish me luck out there, okay?"
He watched you walk off with that same lopsided grin. "Always."

"This is a fight we've been waiting for folks!" Mic announced as you entered the stadium once again. "This round is Y/n Aizawa, the daughter of my buddy Eraserhead over here! She's fighting Shoto Todoroki, the son of the number two hero! Any words for your kid Aizawa?"
"No." He spoke simply. "Right now she is my student in a competition. She gets no special treatment. She will do her best to prove herself just like Todoroki will."
You smiled softly, you knew everyone in the crowd was probably talking about how cold your father seemed.
But he knew what he was doing.
There you were standing face to face with the boy. Seeing him brought you back to your conversation earlier in the fights, you needed to show him the differences between the two of you.
The differences that would give you the win.
Though, he didn't seem as interested in this fight as he did with Midoriya.
He seemed lost.
You knew he started off every fight the same, on the offensive.
Like you predicted, he placed down his foot and sent a sheet of ice towards you.
You simply floated, moving your body so you seemed to be laying down—bored in the air. "Come on Todoroki. You knew that wouldn't work on me." You smiled.
"I was simply testing your reaction time."
Your feet softly landed on the floor.
You took a moment before you charged at him.
He deliberately tried to stay away from you, constantly sending a new pillar of ice your way.
"He knows he can't beat her in hand-to-hand." Midoriya noticed as he stood near the balcony of their section.
"You don't think he could?" Uraraka asked the boy and he shook his head.
"No." He said. "Todoroki is very dependent on his quirk, he lacks when he can't use it easily. Aizawa-San on the other hand doesn't have an offensive quirk, so she has trained her body to be as flexible as possible. She's also trained in martial arts."
Uraraka noticed the way his eyes never left your fighting form as he spoke about you. There was a certain glimmer in his eyes.
She smiled. "You know a lot about her ."
Izuku stiffened and his face flushed red. He shook his head and looked at the girl he stood by. "W-We just hang out a lot! I promise I don't stalk her or anything!"
She laughed. "I never accused you of stalking her."
Midoriya hunched over. "Right."
"Damn you." You gritted out as Todoroki managed to hit you with his ice.
The two of you were spending way to much time using your quirks. You were pissed at the school for not allowing you to use your costumes. If you had your stars and your scarf this fight would have been over a while again.
"You're a coward!" You called out as he continued barricade himself.
"I'm strategic."
You jumped, using bits of your quirk to dodge the continuous amounts of ice he was sending your way. As soon as your feet hit the ground, you were in the sky once more.
When you finally got close enough to him you deactivated float, but channeled extra strength into your leg.
As you were getting closer to the ground, you raised your leg and smashed through the ice he had before him.
"You're full of surprises."
Instead of responding you took initiative.
You swung your fist at him and he barely dodged. When he tried to retaliate with his quirk you simply swept his feet out from under him.
When he tried to shoot it up at you from the ground you flipped towards the side, messily landing back on your feet.
The two of you went back and forth for what felt like hours.
You were both getting worn out.
You were both using your quirks so much.
When you finally forced him out of the ring, you fell backwards.
You remembered staring up at the sky, admiring the view—wishing you could float up and dance with the clouds.
But as they were announcing you as the victor, your visions went black.

"Feeling better dear?"
Her voice rang eerily in your ears as you regained consciousness. You slowly sat up, noticing you were in one of the clinic beds.
"What happened?" You asked as you rubbed your eyes groggily. You lifted your head and saw Recovery Girl trying to grab something just a bit too high up for her.
"Oh you won your fight." She spoke simply. "You used your quirk a lot today, you had to dodge that boy's ice quite a bit." She reminded you with a small chuckle.
You rolled your eyes at the memory. He did nothing but throw ice your way for the first ten minutes of the fight. You knew he could use his fire, you had seen it. Maybe if he had the fight would've turned out differently.
Remembering suddenly, you looked at your stomach and noticed the bruise was gone. Knowing how badly that injury had hurt, you couldn't help but marvel at her quirk. "Your power really is amazing." You smiled softly. "Thank you for healing me."
She simply waved her hand at you. "Get along now. There's a boy out there waiting for you. Handle him and then run along to your last match."
You didn't like her dismissive tone but you got up anyways, trudging over towards the door. Once you opened it you saw Midoriya sitting against the wall, his eyes lidding heavily.
You were glad the day was nearing its end. You all would need lots of rest after this chaos.
"Midoriya?"
The sound of your voice made his head shoot up. His eyes took a moment to scan you, and he smiled contently when he saw you stood and walked normally.
"You we're amazing out there."
Your eyes widened and you felt heat rush to your cheeks. "Shut up! I was not!" You sat down beside him, pulling your knees to your chest and placing your chin in the slight gap between your knees.
"You were, his quirk is killer and you managed to get past it." He nudged you with his shoulder playfully. "You proved to him that you were a worthy opponent, just like you promised."
You leaned your head back against the wall and closed your eyes. "I just wish everyone could see I'm strong enough." You whispered.
He frowned at the pain that was laced in your voice.
"I'm just tired of the secrets kept from me." You shook your head, refusing to let any tears fall. "My dad and my Pops keep so much from me. They won't even tell me what my last name was or why everyone recognizes me by my stupid eyes! It's ridiculous." You grumbled.
Midoriya sighed, not entirely sure what to say to make you feel better. "I'm sorry Aizawa-San." Though he really wanted to mention how your eyes were beautiful, but he didn't think the timing was appropriate.
You shook your head. "It's not your fault." You clenched your fists. "Maybe if I win this stupid thing, I could prove to them that I will be able to handle whatever danger my past entails."
Midoriya wanted to say he knew you could handle it, you had shown him how strong you were time after time.
But then again, how could he know? So he said, "Show them."
"Aizawa-San." Todoroki's voice interrupted the intense, longing stare the you and Midoriya had partook in.
You turned your head, your eyes narrow. "What?"
The way he stood above you felt rather intimidating. His presence was so large when he wanted it to be. "I shouldn't have doubted you." He spoke earnestly.
You scoffed. "I don't need to hear your shit Todoroki."
"I mean it though." He blinked. "I shouldn't have. I didn't give you enough credit."
You waved your hand at him dismissively. "I already know all this, go away."
Todoroki sighed. "Well anyways," He ignored your demand, "I wish you luck against Bakugou. He's a truly formidable opponent."
As much as you hated to admit, he wasn't wrong.
Bakugou was incredibly strong.
His quirk was flashy, so everyone would be watching him. Not only was it eye catching but it was awfully strong.
Then there was his physical strength and his combat skills.
He was an incredibly rounded out fighter. You may beat him in skill but he had way more cards to play against you.
You weren't sure how you were going to do this.
